Located in the main square of dramatically beautiful Castellane, in France's glorious Verdon Gorge, this market takes place twice a week. On Wednesday mornings, find all the wonderful local food and drink your heart (and taste buds) could desire. On Saturday mornings, experience the food and drink together with a plethora of other local produce.
It's a while since I've been in the area (sadly) but I still treasure fond memories (visual, taste and olfactory) and long to return. The stall holders are so friendly and welcoming, keen to pass on genuine enthusiasm and passion for their cherished produce. I bought the best quality essential oils, I have ever had the pleasure to use, from the market here. I'm eeking-out the last of the beautiful and highly effective lavender oil I purchased; nothing else I've tried has come close to the quality or efficacy of this.
My companion and I spent a very happy hour wandering here taking-in the multi-sensorial treats. The local honey is extraordinarily good - produced close-by, on a farm, that offers guided visits - it was quite fascinating talking with the family that make it. The fish stall was tantalising; we bought several super-fresh delicacies that were thoroughly delicious when we cooked them later that evening. The tomatoes - in an impressive rainbow range of hues - were full of flavour and deeply-scented. Don't miss-out on a visit here, if your travels take you anywhere nearby. read more
