So we were staying in Kortrijk, Belgium for a few days and decided that since we had a rental car,…read morewe should go cross another border for an evening and grab dinner wherever. Lille was the next target. We had a shitty map, no GPS. So when we arrived into Lille, somehow we ended up near what looked to be a convention center, the Grand Palais. Then we used its massive parking garage. I don't even know if we were even allowed to park there, we sure as hell didn't pay anything.
Left the car, started wandering west. After countless hours of walking, popping into random bars for drinks, we really needed food. So, as it turns out, we ate at a restaurant that is appears to be in the direct center of the entire city.
But you know what? It was good, really good. The steak au poivre was cooked perfectly rare, the cheesy omelet bomb my buddy got totally kicked his ass. The frites were as good as any I've had. It also boasted some of the better beers around and from what I can remember, it all cost a reasonable amount. It was exactly what we were looking for in France.
So, if you're a lost non-native in Lille, just start from the middle and work your way out.
