Marché Central - Some pasta we bought for a lunch snack.

During our stay in Nancy, we went food shopping at the Marché Central de Nancy. No matter your…read morepalette and desire to cook, there is a lot for everyone - all sorts of seafood, beef, pork, poultry, sweets, wine, spices & seasonings, etc. representing the region. I'm a foodie, so during our visit I sampled octopus, baby squid, all sorts of cookies, smelled spices and simply allowed each of my senses to devour the market. I love octopus and squid marinated in olive oil, and found some at an Italian food vendor. I split over dinner and breakfast so that I could enjoy it slowly. I also bought kebabs of tuna, swordfish, shrimp and veggies which I cooked for a late dinner after we hung out in Place Stanislaus. We also bought cookies and lunch items from Le Garde Manger which I posted a separate review for. The people at the stalls were super friendly and worked with my limited French. They seemed truly pleased that I was trying, and coached me in proper pronunciations. The atmosphere within the market is lively, friendly and fun. The atmosphere outside the market was equally energetic with shops, boulangeries, patisseries, and more. I LOVE markets and this is one that I will visit on each visit to Nancy.

This grocery store is very clean, has many Asian and African dried, canned, and frozen products as well as fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, and others. The Vietnamese owners (husband and wife) are very friendly and helpful. Their customer service is excellent. They show the customers how to cook Asian dishes using the products at their store, and they even hand out Asian recipes hard copies to customers. They recommended me some excellent local French restaurants and interest places to visit. I can see that they treat their customers like their friends or family members. Before I stepped in this store, I thought it's a small store that could only have few Asian grocery products comparing to the Asian grocery stores in California where I come from. But I was very surprised to find out that for a small town with a small Asian population, this store has carried so many Asian + African products. Some products are not even carried by the Asian stores in California. They have different brands for each product to offer many choices for customers. I'm so amazed with the variety of products, the cleanness of the store, the freshness of produces, as well as the way they treat their customers, very professional but also friendly.
