Oui, oui, oui! This brasserie can be one of my new favorites for a weekend lunch. I was here for…read moretheir special buffet on Saturdays between 12:00-15:30, which serves a good selection of rustic French fare. Onion soup? Check. Cassoulet? Check. Creme brulee? Check. The buffet selections are extensive that you can construct a satisfying 4-course traditional French meal. Plenty of good classics here, but a special nod to the stunning, complex sweetness of the onion soup. It's not often you see a buffet of this quality in Oslo. I cannot think of a better value for a big french gourmand.

What a special treat. Great service. Amazing food. Close to our hotel (Saga). We opted for a late…read morereservation since we booked earlier that day, and jet-lag helped us enjoy our meal at 21:30. The white-washed brick walls really give it the French dining feel. We had the fish of the day (halibut), french onion soup, and duck. All was nicely done! The duck especially had a nice caramelized finish to it. Only awkward part (probably our fault) was that we couldn't finish our main course and asked for a box to take the extra with us. Then they didn't serve us our dessert until we asked for it a second time because they thought we were too full (I suppose Norwegians normally order the right amount of food, and maybe it is not normal to save leftovers). We paired dinner with a nice bottle of Barberra as recommended by our waiter. Definitely a nice spot for a special meal.

If you…read moredon't have a big appetite, you might be a little concerned as the main courses are quite generous, but I think you'll be able to finish them as they're so tasty. I enjoyed my time here. Elias Mat & Sant is located in the sentrum, Oslo's city center, so is walking distance to many sites and attractions. I visited here after walking from the palace along Karl Johans Gate as the restaurant is located off this main drag. Make reservations here for the restaurant is small and intimate. It was time to try reindeer while in the Nordic region of the world, so here I did. I ordered the reindeer stew, which was delicious. The reindeer stew was similar to a beef stew, but the reindeer is leaner, so didn't taste as heavy, which is a good thing. Over some mashed potatoes with a gravy and herbs and a side of lingonberry, it completed the meal. It also came with a side of complimentary bread, which is not always the case at other restaurants. That was a nice bonus though because the bread helped soaked up the stew. Perfection!
