This was our first time in Annecy and our first time trying fondue. The waiter was friendly. We ended up sitting upstairs because it was busy, but we got to see people eating the wheel which is apparently only allowed upstairs. Also the giant spoon is not a spoon, but is actually used to turn off the fire so don't be confused. The fondue was good. They provide a lot of bread to dip in it. Meat pieces also great selection. We had our 6 year old daughter with us who was fairly tired. She fell asleep inside as the atmosphere is fairly quiet. read more

This is such a great spot if you're in the mood for a VERY hearty meal. The waiters were super kind in explaining what everything was and how everything worked and we ended up ordering: Fondue savoyarde - you really can't go wrong with cheese fondue, it's cheese and it's delicious! This cheese had a good funk about it and had a pretty strong alcohol-y taste, but if you're not a fan of that, it goes away if you add a little sugar to whatever you're eating. Saucisson sec artisanal - the potatoes and bread are complimentary and unlimited, but it's extra if you want any meats or veggies. The saucisson sec artisanal had a good selection of different meats and were so delicious with the cheese. One plate was a good amount for four people but we also could have finished a second. Raclette fermiere au lait cru - if you're only gonna pick one dish, this is the one I would recommend. The cheese is a lot more mild, it also comes with the potatoes and bread, and it makes for a great photo! The only downside is that you have to wait for the cheese to melt before you can scrape it onto your food, so there's a lot of waiting happening, especially if you are dining with several people! Everything is really heavy so if I came again, I would definitely order some veggies. And wear clothes that don't absorb all that funky cheese smell! read more

We really enjoyed dining at Le Freti. We stayed in Annecy almost two weeks and we went back twice. The service was great and the food was excellent. We ended up with a big group and they were able to accommodate us outside. I ended recommending this place to some friends traveling through and they also enjoyed this restaurant. If you want to get your cheese on, this is a lovely place to experience Raclette or Fondue. We ordered fondue for 2 and a couple of salads and it was a sizeable meal. It was nice sitting out on the patio and service was pleasant. read more

Unfortunately, we had a very tough experience at this restaurant. Especially disappointing based on it being recommended by our 4 star hotel. The temperature must have been 90 degrees. Obviously the servers couldn't do anything about that. With the exception of the Polenta, the food was average. Nothing special. In terms of the service, where do I start. They brought the mineral water that we ordered from the start when they brought our second glass of wine. The Charturie plate came with our diner! We received our meals long after other people who sat down after us. They refused to provide a menu in English, no big deal but I'm sure they had one. The waiter literally never checked on us unless we called him over (though it was a busy evening). Moral of the story...stay away. read more

I would write an ode to the melting cheese served in this place: Cheese, oh bubbly cheese, dripping down my plate, melting my heart and fusing my arteries ... I love thee dearly! You are the cheesy love of my life. yeah, I srather stop here. After having arrived in France, I was "forcing" my friends into having cheese fondue with me. I really only took the blame for saying it out loud first. We went into Le Freti, as it was recommended by the Hotel. The sight that greeted us was amazing. People had weird contraptions on their tables with half a cheese strapped into it. It ...the cheese ... was then tortured by a heating rod, which made it melt. It's called raclette. But not the sort you get at home, with the little shovels and a kind of cooking plate ... no, this was the proper way of doing it! Ohhhh, we had to have it. My friend ordered it, assuming he would get a smaller cheese, as it was just him eating it. Nope. he got half a cheese wheel. I guess it's no use doing it half way. You should have seen his eyes. But we wanted fondue as well. What the heck ... we had it all. One of our group was opting for the healthy salad option ... which had huge chunks of ... yes ... blue cheese in it. Not quite so healthy. The table was overflowing with delicious cheese in all shapes and sizes and consistencies. I absolutely adored it!! and it wasn't expensive at all. Please visit this place. Very rude staff! The manager doesn't know how to address clients. We sat there for 5 minutes and left befor ordering!

This joint was on a friend's tourist guide, which to me is a red flag but she really wanted to try it so the 4 people in my party went in for a masochism session covered in fromage. On the first night the maitre "d'ouche" informed us with a smirk that it was reservations only as they were completely booked - every single night. My friend convinced me to make a reservation and so we went back the next evening. Belligerent, boorish, obnoxious - the list of adjectives that can be applied to what passes for service here is endless. Our waitress was downright rude, throwing stuff at our table as if we had killed her dog, bringing water at the end of our bland meal, after we'd asked for it four times - we needed the water to wash down the food. Yes, so the "meal." It'd be kind to state that the food was sub-par. My crosette-flette, or however it's written, was a plate of boiled crosette pasta with some cheese that might as well have been spat on top of it. Had they given me styrofoam-flette I would not have known the difference. To eat here is to insult your taste buds and to let yourself be insulted, literally. read more

It was my first time to eat fondue and I wasn't dissapointed, but still my expectations were not met. We were 4 persons to eat 3 portions of cheese. It was nice and the taste was good. The amount of cheese though, was huge! I think we ate half of it, and we literally struggled. So, my advice would be to order 1 fondue for 2, and additionally 2 salads, since cheese is really heavy... We ate fondue with the bread, and also ordered a platter of selected sausages (didn't go well, in combination it is really salty). We also got potatoes, which is additionally heavy. All in all, after 3-4 bites, the dishes get somehow boring. We also had 2 other dishes, but both were loaded with even more cheese. For cheese lovers a good place to go, if you want some variety, maybe... For us, it was okay, but we wouldn't go again (dishes too heavy and monotone). Check it out yourselves! read more

Last night of a recent trip to the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy, myself and a large group of friends decided to try this place. It came highly recommended by the locals, but honestly it was a disappointing end to an otherwise fantastic holiday. Let me start by saying that I like cheese, in moderation, but fondue is not something I'm head over heels for. I find the concept of dipping bread into a pot of melted cheese boring and plain unhealthy. However, just to try the experience we agreed that we would order 3 pots of fondue between 15 of us, taste a few mouthfuls and then order a proper main. As we walked up the stairs we were hit by the rancorous pong of sweaty feet. I don't know why I'd expect anything else from a place that specializes in melting giant blocks of cheese, but I instantly wanted to be outside again. Our table was in an L shape which meant that one half had their backs to the other, making conversation awkward. Our menus were French or course, so the one French speaker at the table had the stressful job of translating and ordering for us. The waiter did nothing to help this process and was quite rude and impatient. When we finally got to tasting the fondue I will admit I was impressed. The cheese had a beautiful texture and almost wine-like flavour. 6 mouthfuls was enough for me though. Once it was gone we ordered our mains. Several people ordered salads in an attempt to bring some balance to their digestion. I got sautéed pork in red wine with polenta. The pork was tasty and tender, but I wasn't expecting the polenta to come drenched in bowl of melted cheese. The salads were also not as expected: giant leaves of lettuce, a few cubes of ham topped with a mountain of grated cheddar. Totally off-putting and virtually tasteless. Also by this time 3 other parties had entered making the small room incredibly loud and stiflingly hot. I literally felt as though I was sweating cheese and couldn't finish most of my polenta. When the bill came I've never seen money leave a wallet so fast, such was our hurry to breathe fresh air again. We didn't tip and I don't think I'll be eating cheese again for at least a month. read more

I don't like to bitch about service - I used to wait tables but the complete lack of common sense, snobbery or whatever this person's problem is cost them our business tonight. And should serve as a warning to others. First of all, it's Sunday and raining, pouring rain. We arrived without reservation & were directed to sit at a table that was half way out in the street.. In the rain. We kept moving forward , asked to be seated under cover but were told very forcefully No, not possible. No one else was in the terrace seating. The hostesses was a complete witch - invited us to inquire for a table inside which we did. Promptly told all reservation only. So ...I work hard for my money. I'd rather go someplace that treats me like as I would treat anyone else. Don't waste your money here - go to Le Sapaudia just down the plaza. They know how to treat their customers! read more

Definitely worth going. I highly recommend you call ahead and make a reservation, if not you run the risk of being turned away. We had the fondue and charcuterie platter, food was amazing. If traveling thru France, definitely add Annecy to your itinerary. read more
