I first came here on a voucher deal for a manicure, I came again on a voucher deal for a massage and now I come back just for eyebrow threading. The manicure was great but it's not usually my thing. They do gelllish manicures here, which are beautiful and long-lasting but a real pain to remove since I found it takes a lot of time and effort to remove it yourself. I really liked their eyebrow threading which is only £6 - the cheapest I've seen in Edinburgh and they do a good job! I'd give the manicure and eyebrow threading four stars, but the massage was a two-star since it wasn't very good and I think they are completely overpriced (£55 for 60 minutes). Overall, the place is clean and comfortable and well-presented, and the staff are friendly enough. I'd definitely recommend the eyebrow threading! read more

I will try and be fair, since I did get a groupon for a sweedish massage and not deep tissue as I am used to having on those rare delightful occasions for splurging. But this was the worst massage I've had, out of about 40. It was my first in the UK and I am wondering if the gentleness is a part of the people here, but I need some force put into those knots you discover, not a gentle glossing over them. I did not relax much because I was lying there thinking how dissatisfied I was, and in the end my skin was oily and no more relaxed than when I entered. I was really nice and didn't say anything to her, and tipped because Americans do that, and she wasn't even pleased at the tip. Which was a bit more of a waste of money. read more

I was about to embark on a 2 week travelling holiday around Thailand, so obviously a full waxing session was essential holiday prep. I had been asking about for recommendations but then a Groupon deal appeared in my inbox. A full leg and biking wax at Le Dermex for £16, an absolute bargain. I was sceptical of how cheap it was but as money was tight I decided to risk it. When I attended my appointment, the place was lovely. The area by reception was kitted out for manicures and treatment rooms are through the back. Everything was clean and well presented. I had a quick browse through the price list and even if you don't have a voucher, everything is really reasonably priced. The girl who took my through for my wax was an absolute sweetheart. I was tehre for quite a while, and obviously this can be quite an intimate procedure, but she made me feel so relaxed. She clearly loves her job and takes great pride in what she does so she was very thorough, hence me being there for so long. Overall I cannot fault this place based on my experience. Great value for money, lovely staff and generally great service. read more

Having never had a full wax before I was sceptical to go for one that was a group on deal however my worries were completely unnecessary. I was able to make an appointment exactly when I wanted. There was no receptionist so I just had to wait until someone came through to the front. The room was lovely and clean and the technician was lovely and made me feel comfortable. Having opted for a Hollywood and half leg I was expecting to be in agony however it was not as bad as ai thought. She talked me through the whole thing and I felt as dignified as could possibly be in this situation. She gave me all the information I needed for aftercare and I am definitely happy with the result. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they didn't answer the phone and I phoned about 20 times so had to go in and book in person and when I arrived I had to wait about 20 minutes before someone finally spoke to me. I understand they're busy and there is no receptionist but it is still an issue. I would recommend this place to a friend and I will be back. read more

I had a really frustrating experience here which I didn't do anything about at the time. It's one of those ones where you feel ripped off but only later realise how badly. The more I've thought about it the more it's bothered me that I didn't react at the time so I need y get it off my chest, Approx March 2014 so keep this in mind. The therapist may have moved on. Reception was fine but my therapist whose name I don't know because she never introduced herself didn't have any kind of bedside manner. There was no consultation. Not even a brief outline of what the treatments involved. So I pointed out before beginning the massage that I like a very hard pressure. It simply lacked skill. She spent the whole time warming up the muscles rather than working them. Then came the one hour facial which was CHRONIC . I have dry sensitive skin which had there been a consultation I would have pointed this out but in any case the most inexperienced therapist would have been able to see this during the skin analysis. I was left alone in the room with the steamer on (rookie mistake) while she went to chat loudly with the other therapists. I had to adjust the steamer myself because it was far too close. Once my mask had been applied no contact was made. I would normally expect a hand foot or scalp massage in this time rather than the therapist sitting waiting. I then had an 'indian head massage' which I would argue was a basic scalp massage. it was uncomfortable due to my skin feeling hot and itchy after the facial. Relaxing to start with but many times I felt she was just bored and playing with my hair, I've definitely had better. I was instructed to go to reception once I was ready. I wasn't offered water and I felt hurried out the salon. My face didn't feel right so immediately after leaving I took a pic to check it out, the skin was really angry and blotchy like I'd been slapped a few times. I seriously doubt none of the three therapists noticed. Clearly the products used were far too strong for my skin. I have no allergies and have never had a reaction to products aimed at normal to sensitive skin...either they don't stock products for sensitive skin which isn't asking much or the therapist was clueless. read more

Been here before for a gelish Manicure which was fabulous and I recall the staff were absolutely lovely - really friendly and relaxed but professional at the same time. Needed to get my legs, underarms and bikini waxed and my usual place had let me down so came back here again. Have to say, they didn't disappoint! I'm not the easiest to wax to be fair but the therapist was great - really listened to me, made me comfortable and took her time. She did get a colleague to help her (probably as I was being a bit of a girl and took so long!) and between the two of them they had me done and dusted and feeling fab! Hurt a little but I always find that with waxing. I found the place clean,well presented, comfortable and warm (important when you're lying there with your bits exposed!). I also thought their prices were reasonable so I would definitely recommend them - top marks ladies! read more

I had an appointment booked a month in advance just before I was leaving the country for several weeks. This was an appointment at 1800 and I arrived in the area early at great inconvenience the night before my flight... Only for them to contact me less than an hour before the appointment to cancel because they were running late. In addition to this, I was getting a laser treatment and I was told for forty pounds more, they'd move in another half inch. What they neglected to tell me was that they wanted forty pounds more PER TREATMENT not forty pounds in total, which was a substantial sum and deceptive salesmanship. I highly advise people to seek treatment somewhere less frustrating and unprofessional. I did not return even though I'd paid in advance for more treatments because of the infuriating customer service. read more

This was by far the worst wax experience I have had. I got a full leg and hollywood wax. The woman working was actually very friendly and nice so customer service wise it was great. However, the technique she used and the type of wax was horrible. Six hours later and my legs are still stinging with giant red bumps and some layers of skin missing. She spent half the time using tweezers to get the hairs that she missed. And once I got home I still noticed little patches of hair that were still present. I previously went to a place that was a bit more expensive and in this situation, the money was worth it. I do not recommend Le Dermex for waxing. read more

First time to Le Dermex. Booked in for a Hollywood - This is definitely the best wax i have had- Staff are really polite and professional, and very thorough throughout the treatment. Awful. Went in for a 60 minute facial and left with worse skin than before I came in. The lady who did the facial was on the verge of being rude and did not take my comments on cosmetics irritating my eyes seriously, or that she could've done something more vigorous on my skin to get rid of my blackhead problem. Result: irritated skin which today (one day later) broke out all over due to overly dilated pores, and blackheads more visible. Would not recommend if you care about your skin at all. If all you're looking for is a questionable massage at a relatively affordable price, then by all means, but do not expect to get any sort of cosmetic improvement on your face. As an aside, the blanket they put over you was dirty with white stains (yes, you read that right) and they made me wait over 20 minutes for the appointment. read more

I had a full leg wax here. It was not great! I was left bruised from waxing the same spot over and over and over, sticky because the therapist forgot some of the places she had put the wax and I still had lots of random patches that hot been waxed properly. Would not recommend. read more

I 100% would NOT recommend using Le Dermex for any treatment. I had a voucher for a block bookings for IPL and the way this business is run is astonishing and embarrassing. Many times I met people waiting outside their premises on Lothinan Road only to be turned away because, seemingly, they didn't have any notification of their appointment and instead of squeezing them in (as they were told their appointment was that day) they got turned away. I got told 1 HOUR before my appointment that it would be on their new premises on Fredrick street so because of the short notice of the location change, I couldn't make that time slot (surely they would have known way before 1 hour that it wouldn't be on their old premises?) After that happened I tried for over 2 months to get another appointment but the phone was never answered, scattered text messages sent and no form of communication. It was clear that because they already had my pre-payment they didn't care whatsoever about completing the course of IPL that I paid for. Finally, I got through to Sofia where I explained how unsatisfied I was and she kept saying that I must have lost my appointment when they moved and kept blaming everything on their move. Suddenly she announced that next month she would be leaving for 3 months! I still had another 4 sessions to go! She said she would refund me my payment and asked for my details but that has been over a month now and nothing has came through even though I've tried to contact her and reminded her many times. When I went into her new location (a rented room off a hairdressers) they said that even though she is a nice person, her head is all caught up in her big wedding. Completely unacceptable. I would never normally leave a review like this but after 3 months of badgering someone for some sort of communication I feel so angry and disappointed by this service. STAY WELL CLEAR. read more

I had a bikini and full leg wax here and it was a really horrible experience. Firstly the cover on the bed and the towel i was given had wax on it from previous use, the girl who was waxing me made no effort to make me feel comfortable in what is quite a intimate setting, up until the point where i found her quite rude. This is really not good in this situation and it is often a painful and exposing experience. This by far the most painful bikini wax i have ever had, i am not sure whether it was because of the eax they used or the incompetence of the beautician. When I asked what type of wax they used she said "tea tree and lavender". The bikini took a long time, when she finished she got a collegue to help do my legs, so both of them were waxing my legs at the same time. This was a awful experience as they were ripping off the strips at different times and it just made me feel even more exposed and uncomfortable. On top of this it was the worst wax i ever had, my skin was really sore for a day or 2 after, they missed areas and where she had waxed my bikini in the most delicate areas the skin was very sore indeed. This was enough to actually put me off waxing in general let alone this salon! I would strongly advise not to go to this salon. read more

I went to Le Dermex with a groupon for an hour massage and half an hour facial. I specified that I liked hard pressure and asked for the Swedish massage. This was probably the worst massage I've ever had. The masseuse performed 90% of the massage while sitting down at the end of the table where my head was, which means that no pressure was applied whatsoever. She applied handfuls of oil to my neck and shoulders and would rub it up into my hair! During the facial, she applied a mask and left me to wait alone in the room for 15 minutes. At the end she said I could take 10 minutes to "relax" alone in the room. This hour and a half massage and facial was only really an hour when you take away all the waiting time. Tried to make it zero stars but doesnt allow it. I went to this salon this week excited about a 2hour pamper session that id received as a Christmas gift. On arrival I asked for a brazillian, facial, back exfoliation, hot stone massage then indian head massage. The receptionist advised that I cant have exfoliation with hot stones so said id have Hollywood wax instead. Now if I was giving someone 2 hours of pampering id do it in the order requested or at least the least enjoyable first. The girl Anna who spoke almost no English started with a facial which was just ok. She then did her version of a indian head massage which was shorter than the time it states and not like any other it was rubbish, she then told me she had no stones so just did a normal massage. She then told me to sit in waiting room to sort room for waxing. Checking my phone I notice that id only had 1hr and 10 mins of treatment and not 1hr 30. Well she eventually called me through for the waxing and OMG it was brutal, she just kept yanking off the strips willynilly and my yelps of pain was just greeted with "its ok" which was all she could say. Well a Hollywood is where your left hair free back and front and ive had many and left feeling amazing. She eventually said she was finished 45 mins later and I didn't question the fact she hadn't gone behind as I just wanted to leave. I couldn't even wear my underpants. I was left with lots of patches of hair and took photos 36 hours later as I was still sore and its so severe I have made an appointment with my gp. Worse waste of money EVER. read more

I went there after finding an offer on Groupon. Even if the beautician herself was nice, this was once of the most painful Hollywood waxings I've ever had. Not so much because of the pain, as I'm used to it, but because she managed to burn me several times in spite of me telling her it was too hot. I also think the the type of wax used wasn't right for the Hollywod, having tried various types, this one has always been the worst one in terms of efficiency and pain. She also missed quite a few areas on the Hollywood and half-legs waxings that I had to finish at home! Still, it wouldn't have been so bad had I not, once dressed again, heard her commenting on our appointment and intimate details about me (like hair type) to her colleagues and clients present in the room!! I crossed the room and left, all eyes on me... Spare yourself the embarassment and the pain and pay a few more quids in a more professional institute!!! read more

Purchased a groupon to get shellac on my toes and finger nails. I called several times to try and book an appointment (Their voicemail is generic and doesn't confirm you've email an actual company called Le Dermex) and then eventually emailed and no one got back to me. I went in in person and was advised to email a different address! I asked why I couldn't use the one on the website and the woman didn't really know the answer. I eventually had my appointment to get my wedding nails done (french manicure shellac) and my toes done in plain colour shellac. The appointment was booked for 11am. I was advised (when I called the day before) that it would take up to 2 hours to get this done. I was very stressed in the lead up to the wedding (which included 2 house moves and still working full time). I was looking forward to getting this time off to be pampered ahead of my big day. I arrived 5 minutes late for my appointment which I apologised for but I didn't think this would or should be made to be a massive deal as they had allowed one and a half to 2 hours for my treatment I thought there was a tiny bit of leeway. I was dismissively told to take a seat. I was there for at least 5 minutes while all the staff stared at the screen and discussed something. I guessed maybe they had double booked someone but then no one else came in and there were at least 3 of them all standing behind the desk. I was eventually told to take a seat. I had a big umbrella with my which fell to the floor as I struggled to place it somewhere that wouldn't fall over. Then I sat with my bulky winter coat on while she started on my nails. This was not the service I am used to in a professional salon. She basically gave me the cold shoulder and did not talk to me. It was so awkward. I can't describe it but she seemed to be on a little power trip and said she didn't know if she had enough time to do both. I said I would happily have my finger nails done and then she could leave my toes. There was no response to that. I couldn't even look at her it was so awkward and so I looked at the shelf of products to the side for most of the treatment which was so uncomfortable as I still had my jacket on. There was apparently time to do my feel and so that was that - again no offer of a drink or anything. It was all done in stony huffy silence. I was not thanked for my custom at the end and given the same silent treatment as when I came in. I would NOT in a million years recommend this place, in fact I will actively discourage people from going to this terrible place. The nails were fine. My thumb had a grain of something embedded in the nail so I had to file it off and re polish it with normal nail polish. It did last until the wedding which was 3 days later but 5 days later I got a couple of chips in my french mani and then it was downhill from there. I went home and cried as it was such a horrible experience. read more

As I read the other reviews here, I am not surprised at all to see all the disappointed people. It is just the most unpleasant and unprofessional place, experience as well as staff. As far as I know there is only one or two girls (one at a time!) doing all the work that is offered by this salon, so you are actually waiting for her to set up the room for waxing after the massage she gave in that same small unpleasant room, where she also does the manicure and IPL and probably everything else. I am really very unhappy with not only the unprofessional waxing treatment that I have experienced, but the customer service as well. The girl was just very unpleasant to speak with, she was trying to be nice but it was obvious she is faking it. I would have preferred just to stay there in quiet. The little room she was doing all those treatments was actually very dirty and not comfortable at all. I cannot imagine having a nice relaxing massage there! However. as I have already read from the reviews here, the atmosphere is not the only problem with the massages. But I cannot comment on that as I will never go back there. So as for my actual treatment, it was really the most disappointing experience. I had a groupon for a hollywood + full leg waxing. I called an hour in advance to let them know that I might be 10min late because of a personal issue I had to wait and resolve before I go. The girl (the same one that acts as a receptionist and doing the treatments) was very unpleasant on the phone saying just something like "Okaay..." with an awful tone. I said I am sorry three times and that I will try to go there as fast as I can. However I couldn't go there on time, but I was there exactly 10mins late and I thought 10 minutes will not be such a problem if they are professionals. So I first waited for her to appear for 3minutes, then she said Hi and just gave me a sheet I have to fill in, which took me 3 more minutes, during which time she disappeared somewhere at the back, to set up the room I presume. Then I waited for her 5 minutes to appear so that I can hand in my filled-in sheet. Finally she called me in the room that smelled awful. At the very start of the waxing procedure I said sorry for being late again however she said she may not have time to do both the hollywood and full leg wax because there is a reservation after me. Ignoring the fact that I have paid for that! I was trying to be nice and I wanted to first do the Hollywood and then proceed if time is left, however her waxing technique was something that I have never seen before until now. She was not good at all, very slow and with a strange technique, making me help her all the time (which never happens if a professional knows what she is doing)! Also the wax she used was horrible and it took her twice the time I usually get this done by professionals. So there was no time for my legs that I have paid for and I just said ok leave it, trying to go as fast as possible. Her after treatment lotion was horrible, had no label, no smell, and the pump was dirty, but I still had to use it because even my hands were sticky from helping her with her job. My skin was red and painful , with lots of bumps, three days after the treatment which never happens. Also, while this horror was happening, the girl never smiled once! Neither for hello or goodbye.
