It was an awful day in terms of the weather, cold and damp and we needed to reenergize. Several of us went in to get a snack and to use the loo. We were seated and given menus. Most of us got coffee and a sweet to eat. We were not going to be guests here and after our snack, we had to get going on the next leg of the tour. The cake, hot chocolate and coffee were good and gave us the much needed energy to continue on. It was a pleasant break, the waitress accommodating [despite the fact we did not speak French and she did not speak English] and I would encourage you to try it if you are in Honfleur.

It would be very easy to drop a point off for the room amenities, such as the shower, and separate…read moretoilet facilities that we encountered in the rooms, but, and a BIG BUT, you have to understand the age of the building, and what the owners had to work with and work around without affecting the structure. I am not going to dwell on this any further, just be prepared and understand these constraints. This also needs to be clearly explained when travelling with very discerning children who are used to more modern amenities. Unfortunately, we didn't sample the evening food, but other residents we met were complimentary, with the caveat that the prices were top end. However, breakfast was varied. Cold meats, and as you would expect, very continental. Facility to cook your own boiled egg. A machine in the bar area to get freshly squeezed orange juice. I cannot remember the price for the breakfast as the booking was done by friends, I would guess in the region of 15 Euros. We enjoyed the use of secure parking, but away from the hotel. It did require two of us to put in the code whilst the other drove the car into the area before the gates closed. We had two cars in the party. The staff were extremely pleasant. The thing I encountered generally on my travels in Spanish and French hotels was getting the use of an iron and ironing board. I requested one here, and they had difficulty in providing one to our room, but they offered to iron the clothes. Which to my mind was even better, and at no extra cost. We would stay here again. It is set close to the town and harbour restaurants. Cependant, le petit déjeuner était varié. Viandes froides, et comme on peut s'y attendre, très continental. Facilité à cuisiner votre propre œuf à la coque. Une machine dans la zone du bar pour obtenir jus d'orange frais. Je ne me souviens pas le prix pour le petit déjeuner que la réservation a été faite par des amis, je dirais dans la région de 15 Euros. Nous avons apprécié l'utilisation du parking sécurisé, mais loin de l'hôtel. Il a besoin de deux d'entre nous de mettre dans le code tandis que l'autre conduisait la voiture dans la zone devant les portes fermées. Nous avions deux voitures dans le parti. Le personnel était extrêmement agréable. La chose que je rencontrais généralement sur mes voyages dans des hôtels espagnols et français devenait l'utilisation d'un fer et une planche à repasser. Je demande un ici, et ils ont eu des difficultés à fournir un à notre chambre, mais ils nous ont proposé de repasser les vêtements. Qui à mon esprit était encore mieux, et sans frais supplémentaires. This hotel is a fifteen minute walk from the Deauville-Trouville train station...we had to walk as…read moreno taxis or Uber's were available when we arrived. The hotel is beautiful from the outside with a nice little garden area with benches just in front of it. The lobby has nice sofas and tables and there is a bar on one side with the restaurant behind it. We were charged 30-something euros per night for buffet breakfast for me as my husband was part of a conference. I tried to opt out of it as I would have preferred to try the small cafes outside but I could not. The back entrance has some outdoor bistro tables and chairs and across the road are tennis courts. Along the back road is the convention centre, Olympic pool and Deauville beach. Right beside the hotel is the Deauville Casino and tons of shops and restaurants within walking distance. The room we had was a smaller one with king bed. A door separates the bedroom from the entrance and closet. The washroom has its own door from the entrance area and the toilet area has its own door.....allows for quiet sleep for one person as the other is getting ready. There was no iron in the room....we had to request it and the cleaning staff would try to remove it daily but I told them to leave it for our entire stay. There is a safe and coffee maker and a small closet. They replenished toiletries daily and I requested our towels to not be changed (by hanging them up) in order to be "green" but it looked like new towels daily. The disposable coffee cups and lids, and daily plastic water bottles negated any "green" initiative. I did like that common washrooms on the main level lit up with movement and were not left on at all times. There is a tiny elevator but stairs are close by. The gym is small and limited and the pool is decent (small) with loungers and sofas. The pool was not busy during our stay. The concierge was not too helpful when I asked for info on tours. They said they had none and we could hire a car for 100 euros per hour and hire a guide for 500 euros for the day The walk over to Trouville took me about an hour to get to the beach...at a strolling pace. We used our rental car to go to Juno beach. The buffet restaurant in the hotel was large, extensive and good quality. Plenty of pastries but I would have liked more fruit.

At the bistrot I had oysters and the linguini alla vongole, clams and pasta. The oysters were delicious, so fresh, served on a plate of ice. The pasta was also delicious. Service was very attentive and well done. We sat outside and enjoyed the sunset views. We had lunch at the restaurant a couple of days later. I had this beautiful grilled octopus leg. Perfectly seasoned. Service was not as good at the restaurant. IDK why, they acted a bit rude. Perhaps because we didn't order many things? It was unnecessary to behave that way and for the 50€ I spent they could have been nicer. It took half an hour to get water. The food is good but seriously not worth the aggravation. Go to the bistro and skip the restaurant. Both have nice views.

We booked room #3, because we wanted a scenic view and boy oh boy did we get it. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable and we appreciated the modern bathroom and that there multiple outlets in the room, The grounds were spectacular, and offered beach access. We had dinner in the bistro and enjoyed the fish and chips and friendly service. If the opportunity presented itself, I would happily book a stay at the Hotel Dormy House.

It is a converted old house that is impeccably kept. The place sits up above the city a bit so you have some interesting views of the old village. The breakfast that is made just for you in the morning is perfect to get your day started. You can decide between several rooms to sit, one with a fireplace if you choose. The woman that runs the place is super nice and accommodating. If you are only English speaking, no problem also. I highly recommend trying this place, you can use it as a launching place for your Normandy D-day beach tour trek.
