We ate here our first night in Carcassonne, and it was a reasonable place to start our visit. The staff had a range of ability in English (more than a match for our limited French) but were perfectly friendly and worked with us to sort out a meal. The space is open and airy.
There were a range of prix fixe menus and a la carte options, naturally including Carcassonne's signature dish: cassoulet. We all ended up with variations on the same prix fixe. The food was good, though certainly not mind-blowing. I started with a very nice salad served with duck gizzard and followed this up with a (rather tough) beef cheek. My wife started with a more modestly-sized plate of goat cheese on toast, followed by a prodigious bowl of somewhat bland cassoulet.
Deserts and coffees were very nice affairs (even the worst French restaurants seem to know how to do coffee).
All-in-all, a very decent experience. We wouldn't go running back, but neither do we regret the choice. read more
