Le Chatel is a charming restaurant in Montbeliard featuring local dishes of the French countryside. Since it was spring during my visit, I ordered the seasonal white asparagus, which was paired with a creamy sauce grelette, slices of bresaola (air-dried beef sausage), and mesclun. While the sauce was rather bland, the bresaola added just the right smokiness to compliment the asparagus. For my main dish, I had the local fillet of trout from Delle, paired with a butter-based lemon and chive sauce, black rice, and roasted seasonal vegetables including radish, pepper, asparagus, and a cherry tomato. For another local specialty, I also tried the local Montbeliard sausage paired with homemade mustard. Overall, while the outdoor seating area had a pleasant atmosphere, the food was underseasoned and the service was extremely slow and inattentive. read more
