Before Tim Ho Wan's Pork Spareribs Rice, we gladly had LeChing's, and we're still glad we do. Known mostly for its "Lugaw" (congee), LeChing has been around for generations, serving a closer-to-authentic Chinese quick food (because it's a crime to call it fast food, really). With its roster of popular dishes and dimsum, it has gained a following especially amongst the budget-conscious Chinese. Yes, their lugaw made their name, but we come back for the Ribs Rice. it is authentically flavored steamed pork ribs topped over steamed rice that is simple, comforting and filling all at once. Maybe it's the familiarity. Maybe it's the old-shop charm, maybe it's the chili oil (definitely it's the chili oil), but whatever it is, it keeps us coming back. Again, one of those no-nonesense good-food places that reminds you how good our snacks used to be back in the day, and with it the memories of sunday snacktime (I just need to forget about mom not buying me that bubble machine on that one particular LeChing day). read more
