Le Chien de Pavlov is a cute little restaurant that feels like a centuries-old space that is inviting, comfortable, well-designed and gently lit. A large portion of one of the walls was a chalk board that had written on it items from the menu. The server brings out to you a menu board for presenting the night's menu items, a practice which I wish they did more of in the States. It makes it feel like a special occasion with a menu daily adopted for your perusal. For entrees', I had the gravlox trout and egg wasabi. For the main, the green risotto was excellent - the flavors were well-balanced, not too heavy for a risotto, yet savory. The plum dessert was delicious and beautifully plated. In fact, the plating for all the food showed attention to detail not only with the plates themselves, but the way the food was arranged on the plate. We walked past this restaurant and looked over the menu. Later, I saw that I had pinned it on Yelp, so when dinner time rolled around we went back to discover the reason that I pinned it. It is surprisingly large inside with seating outside also. We had amazing service. The menu is diverse and can be picked a la carte or you can dive right in with the chef's menu and trust your menu will be the best. The wine recommendations were fantastic and we were able to taste before they filled the glass to confirm it was to our liking. Just thinking about this experience has got me drooling. Pavlov would be proud. There was not one thing on the tasting menu that wasn't delicious. The service was great, and they were very accommodating to us English speakers. The location is also very convenient to the center of town which made it easy for us to walk from out hotel. It was also easy to get a table because due to being on American eating schedule we showed up right as they opened.. actually a few minutes before and then we awkwardly waited outside while trying not to look to eager or rush the staff. read more

Cool restaurant in the middle of Bordeaux. We entered fairly late during the lunch hour and were seated immediately. The lunch menu is fairly limited, but is priced very reasonably. The entrees are under 7 euros, and the main courses are in the high teens. The entrees were great, particularly the veal carpaccio type dish. We each ordered a medium rare steak for the main... one of the 3 came out super rare and we had to send it back to be cooked more. The steak taste fine with the truffle potato side, but the meat quality was definitely subpar. Can't expect much for the price though. Probably should have ordered the fish instead. I wouldn't mind returning to try the dinner menu. read more

I loved this place. I found it on a local's list of recommendations. I agree with all the positive reviews. Staff was extremely friendly even though I didn't say a word of French. The waiter translated the entire menu for me, and I didn't ask for him to do that. Everything I got was delicious - butternut squash soup, catch of the day, and the avocado cream dessert. It's a shame they're closed on Sundays, or I would have gone back. I just loved sitting outside on the quiet street, enjoying a delicious meal and wonderful service. Thank you! read more

I can't even begin to describe how disappointing my visit to Le Chien de Pavlov is. First of all, they have such a cool name. Le Chien de Pavlov means Pavlov's dog, which if you ever took psychology, you'll understand why that's an awesome name for a restaurant. I was definitely salivating when I arrived. They had no online reservation system on their website so I made the reservation via Visa Signature Concierge for 7pm. We arrived on time but was asked to come back at 7:30pm because they weren't ready to open yet for the night. We ordered the burrata, lobster lentil risotto, and the fish. I was disappointed in the burrata. The flavor was lackluster and the cheese itself was hard. It's definitely not the ideal texture for a burrata dish. The biggest problem is the lentil risotto. The dish came with a foam that didn't quite taste like anything. While the lobster was good, the lentil was almost raw. I've had lentils several times before and this was almost not even cooked because there is still a raw grain taste to it. I called someone over to ask about it and they said it's mean to be like that. I ended up just eating the lobster and left all the lentils on the plate. We asked for the check 4 times and waited over 15 minutes before someone came over to let us pay. The dishes are really expensive and not worth the money. I recommend skipping it. If you're in Bordeaux, I would recommend checking our Le Plat Dans L'Assiette instead. It's not very far from this restaurant and is much better. read more

I highly recommend the restaurant Get the côte de Bouf and you will not regret it. I recommend making a reservation to eat here, it does get busy. We started with a fig, Burratta and Mango mousse salad that was a beautiful and delicious deconstructed salad. We ended up here by the recommendation of a local, the staff were polite, and helpful. This is a great place for a group or a romantic dinner for two; if you're interested in having a special dinner while you are in Bordeaux, Le Chien De Pavlov will not disappoint you. I feel this was a hidden gem because it's on a quiet unassuming street in the historic district, there is outdoor seating but it's unlikely that you would already be walking the block and happen to see the restaurant; it did not come up in my online searches, it was recommended by a local. Caveat is we went for lunch. Had a gummy ordinary risotto and fish and chips. Fish was crispy and nicely done but chips were soggy and bland. Only "cool" and interesting things were the edgy antique furniture and the bright green mayonnaise with the fish and chips. Went for dinner on the recommendation of another traveler and was not disappointed. We had the tasting menu, which a five course dinner for €41. Everything was fabulous, including the pate, viande, fish and dessert. We also asked for a bottle of wine and we given a local red and the waiter took care to choose one that was reasonably priced without us asking. We could not have been more disappointed and I've never been treated so badly at a restaurant, worse than "in chien"! Even though we had reserved months in advance for a special meal with family, we were relegated to a table far in the back, squeezed between kitchen door, bathroom door and serving station. Take that, Les Americains! Then the wait staff proceeded to loudly argue, berate each other, make up, discuss what had gone wrong at other tables - all loudly, all in front of us, all while ignoring our pleas for more water and leaving us to pour our own wine. Rude. Disrespectful. The worst service I've experienced. The restaurant was empty yet no one came to see us for 20 minutes. Instead the chef was eating inside with her family and lied to us when we approached for service stating that there were other customers being attended to. Once it was clear no one else was in the restaurant she yelled at us to leave. Truly bizarre and disappointing as we walked a long way to try the restaurant.
