This was an amazing place to stay in Paulliac!!! It was quite expensive, but it included a dinner…read morepackage at Cafe Lavinal, and a wine tasting at Lynch Bages, where my husband wanted to do wine tasting anyway. It was located so close to every winery on the Left Bank, so extremely worth it for location purposes alone. We could have saved by staying in Bordeaux for all 3 nights of our wine tasting excursion, but honestly it was worth not having to drive 1 hour to Left Bank, wine taste all day, and drive another 1 hour back. You want to enjoy your time in Paulliac!! The hotel itself was so charming though! There were several living room areas that you could relax in, a swimming pool, and even a small vineyard area with tables and service should you want something small to eat. It was extremely relaxing, and although there really is nothing to do on the Left Bank except wine tasting, it would have been nice to stay another day to enjoy this beautiful and charming hotel. Our room was very modern and cute. The swimming pool had plenty of lounging chairs - wish we had time to retreat here, but we simply didn't have the time. The service was so amazingly sweet and genuine here!!! The front desk attendant was so accommodating for us. We told her that we had an early train in Bordeaux at 7:45am, and she gave us helpful information on suggesting when to leave. Also, because of our early check out time, she offered to have breakfast and coffee ready take-away for us! When we checked out at 6am the next morning, we could smell the coffee when we walked in the hallway down to the lobby, and the breakfast pastries were ready prepared for us in a box, and the box was WARM and the croissants were delicious!!!! Wow. I wish we could have stayed a little longer to enjoy the real breakfast. Take me back!!!!!!

The nice pool and the well-equiped gym (opened for one customer at a time during COVID) were good additions to an otherwise flawless stay. The restaurant only serves breakfast, the main restaurant is 500m away in Bages, "Cafe Lavinal", for elaborate lunch and dinner.

I am in awe by the audacity of anyone leaving this hotel less than 5 stars. It is amazing and…read moreworth every penny. Let me start with the staff, because they deserve a lot of praise. I believe I emailed the hotel at least two dozen times with various questions about the spa, the restaurant, bike rentals, airport transportation and more, and every time their responses were prompt and helpful, including getting us a table at the restaurant even though their reservation system indicated they were booked. At the hotel, the front desk, bar, and restaurant staff were wonderful - friendly and very helpful. It helps, by the way, if you make even a modicum of effort to speak french - say Bonjour or Bonsoir (good day or good evening), say s'il vous plait (please), and say merci (thank you). In that way, you don't come off like an arrogant tourist. The hotel itself, as you can probably tell from the photos, is beautiful and no expense is spared for your comfort. The rooms are large and welcoming. The beds and very comfortable and the bathrooms and showers are great. We had a beautiful patio overlooking the vineyards. The back of the hotel has outside tables overlooking a beautiful courtyard as well as some lounge chairs to relax in. Pool looked good, but we didn't use it. Location is great. It's about 3-3.5 km from the village using a lesser used road/bike path behind the hotel (as opposed to the main road which might be a bit too dangerous). I would call it an easy bike ride, but its a hilly area and it's a bit strenuous to get there. Much easier on the way back. There are taxis, if biking isn't your thing. Melissa used the spa but unfortunately, I waited too long to reserve a treatment and wasn't able to go myself. But during her spa treatment, I had a nice time at the bar chatting with the bartender about French whiskeys and trying a few myself. Finally, our meal was absolutely superb. Besides a cheese plate (wonderful), some wine (from Saint Emilion, of course, and delicious) and a tray of small appetizers from the kitchen, I got the John Dory confit, which is a meaty white fish. It was excellent. One of my favorite meals in our 9 days in Bordeaux. This hotel spoiled me for all hotels in the future. I don't know why we would ever travel anywhere ever again but to Saint Emilion just to stay at this hotel.

Breakfast buffet was worth the extra cost. A bit disappointed by dinner. I know it's mentioned by Michelin but in our opinion nowhere close. Lovely location but we would not dine here again.
