It was an overall excellent dining experience and there was a waiter who was fluent in English who took great care of us. The restaurant is tucked away in a corner and worth finding.

Granted, all of the food in France is in a league above the rest of the world so a 5-star meal to us may be a 3-star in French terms. Only thing annoying here was that the service was slow even though we were the only ones in the restaurant and they were definitely open on their signage, but the server found us as an inconvenience. I guess you need to go here later at night at this was much too early for dinner in French time. Still, the attention to detail on the food was outstanding.

Great restaurant in scenic Doelan Le Rive Gauche is located in the center of Doelan, overlooking the harbor. There is a nice dining room and a very scenic terrace across the street with a pleasant view of the harbor. The current owners bought the place 3 years ago. The food is quite good with fresh local products and some bold innovations (beet ice cream). There were 4 of us for lunch; we sat outside. The meal was excellent. After cocktails (the americano is good0, two of us ordered croustillant de chevre (goat cheese roasted with lettuce and honey and bacon), the other 2, local (Merrien) oysters served on the half shell. These were followed with the special of the day, cod or pollack filets served with a delicate sauce and vegetables and lightly spiced monkfish with rice and vegetables. We finished with kouign amman, a local pastry made with butter, more butter and sugar. We had a bottle of Riesling. The total check for 4 people came out to 210 Euros, reasonable in light of the quality of the meal and the location. Service was also good. The owner seems very engaged. The season has now started; they are open every day except Wednesday. We will go back.

Vauban is a surprisingly large brasserie, which being located near several schools is a convenient place for students to gather after a brain drain. There are many tables and chairs on the sidewalk in front of the brasserie, while small tables and booths make up the inside. Service is friendly with a smile. If you are not a fan of smoking I wouldn't sit out front. Sometimes the smoke carries inside as well, so avoid the first two tables at the entrance. Otherwise it's a nice place for a fairly priced bite to eat.
