With so many choices in Venice, and so many visitors it's not surprising to find as many bad, as good eateries in the squares. We picked Le Café because it was full of people and busy which always a good indicator of at least passable food. We sat outside, but did go inside to wash hands after numerous surface touches on water taxi's public transit during our morning explorations. The bathroom area had sinks outside of the bank's themselves and were clean and well stocked. The service was a little slow, but once we ordered, the food showed up quickly. My clubhouse with ham, egg, tomato, rocket and cheese was very good and plentiful. The lovely K had the ballerina salad which looked and tasted great. My Sister and her husband travelling with us this trip, both had burgers and fries (?). My Sister asked for it to be well done, and when it arrived it was quite rare, but she soldiered through it as it was past 2 PM and our first food of the day. When the plates were picked up and the bill dropped our waiter said he noticed how rare it was when taking the plate away and had removed the burger from our bill. He also asked that we come back again and ask for him so he could provide us with a proper meal. I've not seen that in Italy before, it was very observant of him, and the right thing to do. Hubby and I stopped here for dinner b/c this plaza was on the way back to our hotel and their menu seemed the most appealing of all the others in this plaza with a reasonable coperto, $2.50 and their menu looked pretty good. We were seated right away. Our server was understanding in letting us move tables b/c the one ahead of us was smoking and it was blowing in our direction. thankfully we hadn't started dinner yet... We had a lovely dinner, we both had the fish with potatoes. It was really tasty. It started to sprinkle but that was okay because we were under a tent. It was pretty romantic actually lol. Cute little cafe on the Saint Stefano square. It is one of several choices on this square. Good service despite typically the more busy cafe. Nice breakfast place also including "English Breakfast" options. I had two eggs, a baguette with ham and veggies, and a fruit plate. Of course, a morning cappuccino rounded it out. All was very tasty. I returned for a croissant and Americano with milk. Also fresh and hit the spot. Service was great with both visits. They have wifi and don't charge a cover (coperto) to sit. Oh, location is great as this is on the path from Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square. It is also steps from Accademia Bridge. Great place to take a respite. Give them a try read more

I had such a lovely experience At Le Cafe that I wen twice in 24 hours! My waiter John was outstanding, we ha sat out for expresso on a rainy afternoon and it was cold....John gave me a blanket to warm up....who does that? The expresso and cappuccino were wonderful as I would expect in Venice...biscotti included. The next day we were planning on having coffee and some pastries for breakfast at 10am, again John took great care....we didn't go for the pastries instead we noticed a couple having pasta and it looked outstanding so we went for it and I am so glad we did! My wife and I first visited Le Cafe one cold March morning back 2011 and we feel in love with it. It was so cold we dined in doors every day eating a different Crepe every morning for a week. AVOID. We were lucky to have a beautiful day and wanted to sit outside so we chose this restaurant strictly due to the outdoor venue. Positives: -Outdoor seating. -Great Chianti 1/2 bottle. Negatives: -Smoking at 1/2 the tables so no escaping it. -Food was bad and it came out way too quick! Like 5 minutes tops! -Risotto came out in 5 min which is always a bad sign. It was extremely undercooked, the rice was crunchy and sat in a bowl of water. I'm not kidding. -Spaghetti with bolognese tasted like box spaghetti but I liked the meat sauce it was just way too greasy. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We stopped in hoping for a quick but tasty lunch and we got neither. We, a group of seven, were quickly seated at a table that was tucked away in the back of the restaurant. Bread came out almost immediately and it was decent, but nothing to write home about. We ordered water for the table as well as some individual drinks that all came out within a few minutes. After brining the drinks we ordered our main courses which consisted of a variety of dishes. Unfortunately, all were subpar. The sandwiches were okay, the gnocchi was terrible, and the lasagne was still frozen in the middle. We attempted for a while to get the waiter's attention, but ultimately ended up waiting a good 20 minutes for the check. TL;DR Both the food and service are subpar. Would not recommend. read more

There were lots of choices on the menu like crepes, seafood, pasta, and pizza. I ordered the special risotto, clam pasta and savory crepe with ham, cheese, but without mushroom by request. The order did take a long time to arrive but I let that pass because there was music outside and Italian restaurants were all very slow. The crepes exceeded my (low) expectations. The crepe part was nice and fluffy with a heavy egg taste, but not overpowering or soggy. The ham was thin and flavorful and the cheese was perfect and not too cheesy. The sauce on the top tasted like alfredo and I loved every bite. From the other reviews no one had ordered this, so I highly recommend this for something unique and not that filling. The clam pasta was also tasty and all the portion sizes were fair and not too filling. The risotto was delicious but too salty, so I didn't finish it, so that was a shame. I was so blown away by the food and the good price that I stayed for dessert and enjoyed a creamy tiramisu which disappeared promptly. If I return to Venice I will eat here again, but make sure not to order the salty risotto. read more

Tourist trap? Maybe, but it highly depends on what you order. For example, I'd definitely recommend cuttlefish ink pasta and seafood pasta but not their pizza. The service was average but I do appreciate a good size menu with allergy information clearly posted. Their portion size is a bit small. The outdoor seating is a plus, though their advertised free wifi is unusable. The pizza tasted horrible! We asked for the bill immediately after taking our first bite. The cheese had a horrible stinky aftertaste! Service wasn't all that great either. Ordered a beer and water and watched the waiter stand around after they were placed on the counter for us. He even walked by it a few times and ignored it. We had to remind them to bring over the drinks that were left on the counter for us. They clearly saw that we were displeased! It seems like the traffic in this area causes them to care less about service and quality of food because business is good either way. Grabbed a chicken salad for the train ride to Verona. 15 Euro for a tiny salad with no dressing and the driest chicken imaginable. This cafe was a breath of fresh air after our other Venetian dining experiences. It had somewhat friendly service, a nice atmosphere, and good enough food (by Venice standards, at least). The cafe is located in one of the larger piazzas ("corti" in Venice), Corto di San Vidal. It is just a few doors down from Chiesa di San Vidal, on the opposite side of the square. The cafe offers typical cafe fare, such as pizza, panini, bruschetta, salads, as well as standard coffees and spirits. It also has a full restaurant menu for those seeking a more extended menu and dining experience. While the food wasn't the epitome of freshness and flavor, it was still quite good, and the best we've had in Venice (including ay much more expensive venues). read more

Went here on our first night, a Sunday and then returned on the Tuesday, as we had been about to eat at Artblu, down the road, but once shown to a table there changed our minds after I had killed 5 small flies! The waiter at Le Cafe was a different one to Sunday but still very attentive and helpful. Great English spoken. Food both times excellent. Enjoyed the wine and beers too. It has the feel of an Austrian cafe, like you get in the Dolomite region of Italy. Is this why they have such good cakes and pastries? Creme caramel was fantastic, too. Our first time in this cafe, the concierge from the Westin sent us as we were waiting for our room to be ready. We wanted something light, so I got the Cremó with hazelnut drizzle and a brioche (sweet almond croissant).
