A few days letter we came back for a proper lunch. We chose a toasted camembert with honey and green salad, a plate with vegetarian dishes, haddock with cockles plus vegetables and for the desert a pear and chocolate crumble. We drank red organic wine. Good points : - Different interesting organic wines - Local food (vegetables, bread, butter etc.). For example cheese from the fromager affineur Sten Marc's - Lovely place, welcoming and authentic. The garden is charming and the second room super lightly. - Agreeable staff, thoughtful and which give good advice To be improved : - The place is open as a wine bar but it is more a restaurant. We arrived at 6 PM and it was obvious that the preparation of the diner was the priority for the staff. We had quiet the feeling to disturb the preparation of the following meal. - Only one veggy dish. Moreover even if the turnips, the cabbage, the carrots were delicious and even if the pumpkin soup was tasty the dish had too much (good) potatoes. - The seasonings have to be improved. - The dessert was good but not outstanding. The pear was perfectly cooked and the chocolate was not over sugared but the crumble mix was OK.

As a vegan in Brest, it's been hard for me to find food. A lot of restaurants don't understand what…read moreit means, and usually they have nothing to offer. However, when we called Diwali, we were delightfully surprised! The chef/owner answered the phone and spent a long time talking to us. He explained that the galettes (buckwheat crepes) could be made with no milk, eggs, or butter. He said they didn't have tofu, but they could do a melange of vegetables and salad. He also said, "Our fries are not vegetarian, they are made with beef fat." I appreciated how up front he was and that he had an understanding of what it means to be vegan. Once there, we were delighted by the decorations, atmosphere, and price. I had a fantastic galette with julienned vegetables, tomato sauce provencale, and carmelized onions. It was truly delicious. For dessert, since I can't have sugar, I had a galette with fresh local strawberries. Meanwhile, my husband had several fantastic vegetarian crepes, full of cheese and chesnut creme. He loved his and had a blackberry cidre to drink. One of the best parts for me was actually the kindness of the owner and staff. The waitress squeezed us into a table and understood my dietary needs. The owner/chef checked on us repeatedly, even speaking in English at times. When he knew we were in a hurry to leave, he made the crepe in just moments. He seemed genuinely committed to the comfort and happiness of his customers. If I were staying here longer, I would certainly be a regular customer. However, instead, I will recommend that anyone who is vegan (or even vegetarian) visit Diwali and enjoy the food, decorations, and warm welcome.
