The menu is bilingual. I had no problem ordering in French when I knew what I wanted. The waitstaff and owner were friendly and tried to switch to English when my French ran out. It is called a wine bar, but Americans would just think of it as a restaurant. my delicious main course was a local specialty, "brandade" made with cod, puréed then baked. they have a good variety of dishes, for starters mains and desserts. Service was attentive and responsive, not always true in France. Reasonably priced. classy ambience with dark, wood tables, maroon walls, and white painted brick arches overhead. Customers sit very close to each other. Perhaps it's the shape of the roof, but it is very loud inside. And there's not even any music playing. Just all the voices. It was nice to be greeted by the owner (so he seemed to me) who then also helped us translate the specials of the day. He seemed a bit rushed though. We never spoke to him again. At least 3 other waiters served us after that. Each one interrupting out conversation by asking what was for who. Admittedly, many restaurants are like this, but there is no reason for this if the person who took the order brings it out too. The food tasted above average good. They seem to do really good desserts. I will not go here again. But just because 'there is better', not because it is a bad restaurant.

Much to our delight, we were presented with two exquisitely prepared filets of beef, cooked rare with a red wine sauce. Trés bon! After desert, the server delivered to our table two glasses and a bottle of liquor filled with some kind of clear spirit and various fruits (it reminded me of moonshine). The server just left the bottle and beckoned us to help ourselves--and there was no charge for it on our bill at the end of the meal either. Throughout the evening, we felt 100% at home and at ease, as if the entire restaurant existed just to serve us. The restaurant was filled entirely with what looked like locals, without a word of English spoken (except by us of course). It was a magical night, and we highly recommend it!

Right after being seated, the owner Thierry saw us struggling with the all-French chalkboard menu, and began patiently explaining every single item to us in English. Things like that make you feel so welcomed. Our food was great- we started with a bacalau salt cod toast spread, followed by what looked like a duck shepard's pie and roasted spare ribs for myself. Both were excellent, and washed down with a couple lovely and reasonable local wines. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in town and want a comforting home-cooked meal.
