Our 8pm arrival sans reservation was lucky, as the outside dining area filled up within 15 minutes of our seating. SERVICE: 5.0. The waitress was a hearty and considerate extrovert. Her recommendation was spot on. Her description of why the food tasted so fresh (never previously-frozen, fish caught that day) was credible. The gentleman who took our payment was amiable; we left happy. AMBIANCE: 4.0. Outside dining area has tight seating, but was very pleasant on a that warm September night. FOOD: 5.0. Fresh, Fresh, Fresh. We had 5 tapas and dessert, walking away sated. - 5.0: SARDINES (1/2 tapa). So fresh. Apparently they don't eat the head and bones here, but we ate the entire fish the Japanese way, including the head and bones (as my wife taught me). - 5.0: HARICOTS VERTS (green bean) with Hazelnuts salad. - 4.0: ROASTED PORK SLICES. - 5.0: ARROZ NEGRE - 4.5: SALAMOREJO - 4.5: STRAWBERRY w/RICE (dessert) The glasses of rosé and red wine were decent.

The food was subpar. Much better dinning elsewhere in this cute French neighborhood. The waiter…read morethat sports a lamb bone necklace had the class of a donkey raised by a goat. He was impatient, rude, unaccommodating and had the charm of a mosquito. I'm a big fan of new places and supporting small businesses but this place is a huge ripoff. Traveling the south of France and this was the only bad mark. Avoid this place. I had a better meal at the seaside sandwich shop.

Tonight we want a change from the hotel and elected to catch a cab into Figueres to dine at Sidreria Txots Figueres. We want a town restaurant and to explore the area. 15 minute taxi ride and we arrived in Figueres at Sidreria Txots for dinner. The place has EDM music and feels like a hip, young person spot. We got a window table to people watch and perused the menu. The Iberico ham croquetts were first with a perfect crunch, soft and savory inside. The mango, pickled onions, stracciatella cheese and lettuce salad had a lime dressing. The flavors were bold, crispy and sweet with mango. An enjoyable treat. Our next selection was the calamari a la planca that was perfectly grilled, drizzled with olive oil and lightly salted. It had a good taste, not overcooked and great charred marks. This was another good choice. Our final selection was the 1/2 grilled pulpo a la braso octopus. This was a huge helping for only one half of an octopus. It was good, just a large portion. The staff was very helpful with the English menu and answering questions. They directed us to where the town square was and the super market. Sidreria Txots Figueres was a decent stop but more of a younger, hipper spot than a quiet relaxing environment. The food was still good. It appears with the crowd dining there that Txots is here to stay.

Getting there is half the fun, and the food is the reward! We made a day of it - getting to the beach mid-morning and had a swim and relaxed by the water, then took our lunch at Le Bout du Monde. The food was fresh fresh fresh! I ordered clams and my family sopped-up the broth with their bread before i had barely begun. the gaspacho was excellent, my wife loved her fish brochette, service was friendly and most patient with our langauge-challenged efforts to read the menu. The lone warning is that though the restaurant is informal, they are not casual at all about advance reservations. As we had none the woman who seemed to be the owner was all "No no, not possible" when we approached about 1130. A gentleman (co-owner/manager?) must have read our disappointment however and negotiated a 1215 seating which was perfect timing for our American-trained stomachs. When we returned there was only tumbleweed rolling through the place aside from ourselves; by the time we left the place was bustling and full to the brim. I don't know where all those folks came from as you truly are in the middle of nowhere - but reservations in high season are recommended.
