"We love you San Pauli, we do!"…read more
I've been to quite a few St. Pauli games. The atmosphere they get down at the Millerntor is amazing. The football can be quite entertaining, but it isn't of the highest quality. One thing I can say is that you'll almost certainly see some goals.
I've watched games from all over the stadium now, standing, seating, VIP seating. I think overall I prefer to stand, you get the best atmosphere that way - however if you do get standing tickets, be sure to get there in plenty of time to grab a good spot. The one time I arrived as the game was starting, I ended up having to stand right at the front, which means behind the fence, which blocks quite a lot of your view.
Recently I got to experience the opposite way of watching a game from the VIP area in the new stand. I've got to say that the hospitality is pretty nice. Free beer served by (mostly) attractive young ladies, who deliver beer to your seats throughout the game. There is also an all-you-can-eat buffet and needless to say you get a great view. The atmosphere is a bit stale though. I got the feeling that me and my friends were the only ones singing...
After each goal the stadium bounces to Blur's Song 2 (Woo! Hoo!) and they start every game with ACDC's Hell's Bells!
