My husband and I have had our taxes done by Superior Tax for the past 13 years. Last year in 2018,…read moreI started a sole proprietorship LLC. I reached out to Superior Tax at the beginning of January to check on fees for filing taxes for the businesses. I was told that this type of LLC was simply treated as an additional source of income and that those taxes would just be filing along with my husband's and my joint taxes, that they would not need to be filed separately. I asked if the filing fee would remain the same (the $150 we typically pay) and I was told that it would. No mention of any additional fees or charges was made.
The day I planned to drop the tax documents off, I called the office again and spoke with Irene (who is typically at the front desk). Again, I reiterated that I had started a new LLC in 2018 and I asked if they would need a copy of my business license, tax ID #, etc. for filing. I came in about an hour later and handed my tax documents over to the same woman (whom, again, I had just spoken with about the new LLC). Before I left, I mentioned that all the expenses for the new business were in there and I checked again on the price. $150 was what I was told.
About a week later, my husband picked up the tax documents and submitted payment. He was given the amount of $255, which he paid. When we spoke and I found out how much they had charged him, I figured there must've been some sort of mistake, especially since I had confirmed this SEVERAL times already.
I called and spoke with the accountant's daughter, Suzanne, who I advised of the situation and was particularly rude me. Our called ended with me being told that Art Lauterbach, the accountant and business owner, would call me.
I received a call from him a short while later. Honestly, I have never been spoken to so rudely in my entire life. He started his call off with the sentence "I was told that you called earlier to complain about pricing." I proceeded to tell him that I had no issue with his pricing, but that I had inquired several times with his staff on the price of filing and was given incorrect or incomplete information. At this point, his basically called me a liar. I reminded him that, at this point, we have had a 13-year business relationship, that I couldn't believe this is how he is conducting business with me, and that it was unethical to mislead him customers about pricing. I said that I would be contacting the BBB and was told, SCREAMED AT, rather, "I don't care who you call! You could call President Trump himself!..." I believe there was more after that, but I hung up before I could hear it because I refuse to be spoken to in such a manner.
I'd just like to share this experience with the world. For years, I'd accepted the fact that this place was in a high-crime area. I'd ignored the feeling that I just might be robbed as I walked into this office building to drop off my taxes. I'd ignored the parking lot covered in potholes, the fact that we had not been asked for info on common deductions we could have claimed, or the fact that they will not accept credit or debit for payment. I'd ignored all of this because I legitimately thought that the people who were performing the service we were looking for were good people. But now, after being berated for calling them on their unethical practice, literally screamed at, and given not even the smallest inkling that they hope to make this right, our relationship is absolutely done. And I'd advise any of you reading this to RUN the other way. I know I will.
