I've been meaning to try Tangerine Tortoise for a while and I live near it so we walked in and did a quick 20-minute stroll around the block while they made our pizzas. What stopped me from trying it in the past was the abundance of great pizza chains in St. Catharines. St. Catharines has amazing food places with unique appeal if you ever want to try them. I actually frequent Score Pizza, Twice the Deal Pizza, and Fat Cat when I'm craving a certain type of pizza depending on the situation. I have had a lot of great pizza around the Niagara region from Fat Cat's to Di's and plenty of others. They all have their own appeal but there is just something about the taste the menu and the overall vibe here that puts The Tangerine Tortoise at the top for me. We ordered the spicy pineapple and the prosciutto with pistachio nuts and both were amazing. My favorite was the spicy pineapple because of the hot honey glaze on top. It added the perfect kick and sweetness. What's cool about Tangerine Tortoise is how it's inside an old repair shop and it's hard to tell it's a restaurant unless you know. It's also in the middle of a neighborhood which I think cities should allow more residential restaurant mix because it adds to the community appeal. As a St. Catharines local I absolutely love it and my sister coming in from the GTA loved it just as much.

The last time I came by it was lunchtime and we didn't do more than glance here. This time I spent a little more time. It's a small store in the Eatery. Pretty cool. Some interesting sounding wines. Some sales. Not sure you are allowed to drink it in the courtyard once you buy it. I don't know if this is a chain or not. But it was A-OK

I wandered into Archives Wine and Spirit Merchants last weekend while strolling on James Street in…read moredowntown St. Catharines, Ontario. What a find! This is an eclectic new wine tasting bar and bottle shop that showcases local wines (and some other spirits), mainly from the Niagara wine region. The very personable and knowledgeable owner, Robbie, helped me choose some really special wines, some of which cannot be purchased anywhere else. He told me he often has tasting events with the actual wine makers. He specializes in small local wineries that aren't able to sell in the large government operated LCBO stores. He sells wine by the glass and if you want to buy a bottle and have a glass there, he will recork it with a special gas that preserves the rest of the bottle for later. He also has some specialty food items from local producers. He has indoor and sometimes patio seating. I'll definitely be back to stock up on some wonderful wines, and to try a few glasses of something new. He also has a website, myarchives.ca, if you want delivery. I highly recommend this place!

Call BEFORE driving out of your way here!…read more I had this place on a cycling route and visited on a random Saturday, later in the afternoon. Since my friend was feeling tired, we ended up driving here instead of cycling. And...it was CLOSED. Sign on the door said the masquerade was postponed/relocated. So I'm not sure if they were supposed to have a social there and just cancelled it. It was a disappointment, so I'd recommend you make sure it's open before heading out.

Mubru (Lagered ale) Had their Cheese Board that had -Grana Padano -Smoked. Gouda -Aged Cheddar served with 4 kinds of crackers and stuffed olives. $10 The staff were good The beers were good The cheese board was small and can't be shared.
