Are you a hobby brewer? An aspiring hobby brewer? Operating a brewery? Do you just like the smell…read moreof grains? You should probably be checking out Toronto Brewing. If you don't have a car, the location is absolutely super inconvenient. It's not as far as Manitoba, and the TTC does service the area. As a carshare user I plan my trips to the shop around my vehicle usage. If you own a car or have regular access to one then it's obviously no big deal. If you're going to buy equipment you'll need a vehicle anyway. Alternatively, you can always order everything off their website and they offer a wide range of delivery options. Ultimately, the selection of grains to use in beer making, plus the wide variety of hops varietals and yeast strains offered more than make up for the industrial park location. The owners also offer workshops every few weeks that you can attend and learn more about brewing where you'll brew a batch together and sample some beers that others had already created. I've been brewing for 6-7 years to date and as far as supply shops go for this stuff, Toronto Brewing is one of the best. Most of the critical reviews I've read seem to be people with unrealistic expectations and/or just feel entitled. Here they offer all the equipment you could need (plus lots more you don't but might want anyway). They have an inventory of product so you can make things from scratch, or you can buy things in kit forms. Their staff is super super knowledgeable and easy going. If you have questions they'll have answers (or at least try). If you don't have questions, then experiment!

Was recommended using them by a Home Brewer who lives in Hamilton area and said he was a regular…read morecustomer of theirs. So I decided to place an order, for a large ticket item, I'd been eyeing for a while. They confirmed the order and I was excited, they had a comparable price and the expected delivery date lined up with the completion date for a batch I had running. Well the delivery window came and passed, so I reached out, took two emails and 3 days to get a response from Zack, who apologized, and said he would get back to me with an update... Another week passes and no follow up. Placed a complaint with their pay service provider and then got another response from Zack, again apologized but this time saying they didn't have my item and they where waiting for the another shipment next month and offered a store credit (if they can't fulfill orders they already have taken payment for - why would anyone order more from them?). So curiously I reviewed their website and they were selling the same item I ordered but in a different package & they advertised as being in stock. I offered to take this in exchange for what I paid for and they could apply the offered store credit to cover the cost difference. Thought I was being reasonable and wanted to avoid having to fight for a refund and the nonsense of having to wait weeks for it to be credited back to me. Almost a week later, Still no response from Zack or the Toronto Brewing Company with either confirmation that they accepted my resolution (with tracking details it has been shipped) or that they have started to process my refund. HOPEFULLY THEY DO THE RIGHT THING AND NOT SCREW ME OVER - I hate having to write negative reviews... Will update if a positive resolution is reached.

Thanks for the Historic Brewery Tour ($4.50) at Black Creek Pioneer Village, I got a sample of how…read morebeer tasted like back in 1860 in Ontario, the good one times when beer was used as a medication (where is my presciptions!!) and even as pay for the workers! No electricity, No refrigeration, No machinery... Everything are done by hand with no chemical or preservatives! This is different than the commercial version that they sell in LCBO. We ended up tasting 3 samples - Rifleman's Ration - brewed especially for the season is unfiltered brown ale, caramel and earthy taste Stout - really flat, taste just like medicine.. but apparently rich in iron IPA - really interesting taste as it is brewed with a citrus hop, quite difference than the usual IPA Tour itself is really interesting! Not only about the historic brewing method but a great lesson of Ontario's beer history. The costumed guide was quite entertaining and I love how all the participants were involved. We were all assigned as one of the historical characters: Brewers, Politicians, Tavern Owners, Temperance Advocates* At the end of the tour, you also able to purchase a 2 L growler with beers that are brewed on site ($12+$4 deposit). The only downside is in order to visit the brewery, $15 admission to the Pioneer Village has to be paid on top of the tour itself! If not I won't mind coming to the Brewery Pub to have a drink of their special brews!! And if you drive, $7 extra for parking! Cheers to "The Queen & Country!" * I am Jesse Ketchum, My friend is Timothy Eaton which ironically were against the consumptions of beers!!!

To Queen & Country indeed…read more I've been to plenty of Breweries & Brewpubs. I've had my share of Brews. Heck, I've even been to a District of Distillery mind you no longer active. Awareness of Ontario Craft Brews available. I really thought I was edumacated. I was wrong. I was schooled BIGTIME. By a young miss in mid-1800s period costume. Black Creek Historic Brewery. HISTORIC being word of the day. CRAFT being key. Nobody can be designated more as craft unless they handbrew in their basement. ...with a Copper Pot, Kettle, and a contraption holding Wooden Beer Barrels. Whoever has that Mancave setup with 70" LED Smart Flatpanel TV, gimme a shout. 150+ years from now, someone will laugh at you about that historic LED Smart TV. As I smirked at the quality of Historic-style Brown Ale, Stout and IPA provided to us. Here's the catch. Historic Brewery Tour serves up Beer the Historic way, as it was. No frosted Beer Can showing you it has reached Rocky Mountain Coldness. Why? Think back when you were 150 years younger. Electricity, Fridge, Machinery. Nada. It so happens even Carbonation didn't exist. Flat lukewarm Beers anyone? So you've tried Black Creek from your local LCBO? Doesn't taste as bad as I've said? Those Bottles my dear Friend are made at a separate Commercial Brewing Facility. I have a couple in the Fridge myself waiting for something historic to happen, cheers. Please pay for the Historic Brewery Tour($4.50+purchase of Village Admission[$15]) The one-hour history lesson with the lively young miss alone is worth every Penny. If the 1858 Canadian Penny is equivalent to $19.50 today. Btw, it's worth much more. This Brewery is truly Historic. Lesson Learned.
