First, he did not get the proper permits for the job and built it against code. There are so many things wrong with this build but i will highlight the worst. Water leaks in everywhere. The inside now has black mold on the studs. The roof had a dent in it and he was going to bring a full sheet of metal to cover it, was here with it and then left with it. I had a specific door i wanted put on that was $319.00. He put on a $125.00 door and told my daughter-in-law, "oops, i got the wrong door." He had workers that we supposedly learning how to do this and the man was supposed to be an electrician but could not install a 3-way switch without throwing a breaker if the light is on and they use an electrical appliance in the kitchen. He was frequently gone and didn't come when he said he would. He told me steel went up and he needed $800 more for it so i paid him in cash. My d-i-l watched me count in the house and then i took it out to him. Whe he came back he said i only gave him $600. He said i was not paying for labor but it is clearly on his bid. When i asked for receipts, i was not given any. He has insurance but only liability not against his workmanship. I attempted to take him to small claims court but he could not be found to be served. I contacted his insurance company for help in reimbursement and that's when i found out his insurance is only liability. The adjuster cannot reach him. Everything you see written from CP is absolutely true. He is a scammer he is horrible I know firsthand because he installed a fence for me which fell over after one week of being installed it was not done correctly he did not get permits as he was required by law. All the excuses CP wrote were absolutely true I also know firsthand that he takes money from people and doesn't even show up with the materials. There is something in action now that will stop him from cashing checks. Do not absolutely do not give him cash and if he's not willing to give you a receipt if you choose to hire him anyway after reading CP and all of this confirming everything then make sure you get that receipt before handing over any money whatsoever. Hired LB Construction & Remodeliing to rebuild an old porch on my 1883 Victorian. The cement poured 4 months ago is already split on two sides. Before I saw this, I hired Lance to replace three carpeted floors with wood laminate that I purchased first. He had to replace the underlayment and knock a corner of 2 of the floors up about 2 inches on one side and replace a 15 foot floor brace due to Carpenter Ants. He hired a drunk to start the first room or so he said. This guy at least did some work as Lance popped in for about 1 hour max. 2 hours on a rare day over the 5 weeks it took to get the first floor 85% completed. The hired man knocked down the chandelier before Lance fired him and of course Lance simply tacted it up temporarily. Lance took 3 days to put down a 14X14 laminate floor and as he was doing it, I stated that he wasn't doing it right (I'd put down over 2000sf of laminate prior but broke my back 3 years ago so couldn't do it now) so he got pissed and did an even worse job on the floor and then nailed pieces of the old quarter round around the wall leaving major openings and finished no corner cuts... just straight flat ends. He didn't know how to cut into the door ways properly so left them deep, open and unfinished. In room two, once again he pulled the old carpet, pad and underlayment up using a kid who said he didn't have a clue of what to do so I showed him how to do a couple of things. After the kid tore up the underlayment with a shovel provided by Lance, he pulled the screws and nails up while Lance cut the full length (2X14ft) along one wall of the old wood flooring out leaving dirt exposed and the heating duct work exposed. Covered it with 3 sheets of underlayment refusing to put down any protection for air, bugs, or mice and refusing to cut into the closet doorway entrance, leaving a 4"X5ft opening to the old closet wood flooring and walked out demanding I give him $1000 after already giving him $500 10 days before for 'materials'. Since I'd only seen approximately $225 worth of materials ever brought in, I asked him for receipts, and he got pissed and said he wouldn't come back until I gave him more money. Considering the shoddy workmanship, having to beg Lance to even show up which he seldom did reflecting it taking him 5 weeks to do 85% of one room poorly... including putting down a now ruined new wood laminate floor... I agreed with Lance that he shouldn't come back. His work wasn't worth the $3,000 I had already paid him to ruin two bedrooms even more! He should be ashamed and embarrassed, but he isn't. This post is to warn everyone NOT to do business with this guy. He'll spend your money before he even starts the job, disappear for days at a time and then tell you he's have 'wife' problems, bring his kids to the job for the day, tell you he's a professional when he's not, will hire incompetent people to a job and will seldom be the one on location. read more
