My instructor, Nuri, was not only highly knowledgeable but also made the learning process enjoyable. He explained the techniques in a clear and accessible way, even for a complete beginner like me. Nuri's expertise and teaching style made everything feel within reach, and I quickly gained the confidence I needed to learn. Feeling inspired, I joined Women on the Water to continue my sailing journey. After years of waiting to learn how to sail, I'm excited to be on this path. We sailed on the St. Johns River and saw beautiful views of Ortega, downtown Jacksonville, and the surrounding areas. We brought coolers full of food and drinks and were able to set everything up in the kitchen out of the sun to graze on all morning. Even though it was very hot outside there were plenty of shady spots to relax and we had a light breeze to keep us cool. The tour lasted about 90 minutes (and it leaves promptly FYI) and takes you along the shoreline of Amelia Island - past the shrimping boats and past a Civil War era fort - before heading towards Cumberland Island National Seashore. This is where the true fun of the tour was for me. I had no idea really the history of the island and found it fascinating how the Carnegies and Rockefellers and more of the country's elite used this random Georgia seashore as their private escape. The history of both Cumberland and Amelia Islands is incredibly fascinating and the guides for both the Florida and Georgia sides respectively were well informed and personable. Plus - you'll very likely see a ton of great wildlife throughout including dolphins and wild horses and pigs. It's a great way to spend an afternoon in the area and a fabulous introduction to Cumberland Island National Seashore/Park.

For those with disabilities or back/knee/foot problems, they have made it easier to enter and exit the boat with a ramp and a low 2 step up. This was the only boat I was able to find that offered this assistance. But be sure to call first to discuss your particular situation. Parking is close and there is a paved pathway to get to and from. We would definitely take this boat tour again.

My husband went to speak the man in the office and the man behind the counter was rude and unwilling to help. As he went to assist another customer, he told them that he needed to get them checked in so they would not get mad like the customer before them. My husband stated he was not mad, he just wanted a refund and not a discount towards another boat rental. The man behind the counter then proceeded to ask my husband if he wanted to take the conversation outside. This was beyond unacceptable.

Captain Jack helped us on board and provided life jackets which we were required to wear. It was evident he had been sailing for many years as he handled the boat with such ease. You could also see his passion for sailing as he maneuvered the sailboat across the river. My friends and I truly enjoyed our ride.
