There isn't a bad dish in this place but I strongly recommend trying their lamb dishes and making sure you ask for an assortment of dips. The real joy or Arabesque are the many little side dishes served with pita to enjoy with or as your meal. Hummus, tabbouleh, baba ganoush, pickled vegetables, and on and on. There is no end to these sides! (Honestly, I've been here 3 times and I still haven't seen them all). If there are dishes you know you want, it's fine for everyone to order an entree for themselves, but truly the best arabesque experience you can have is to order everything family style. This can mean ordering several dishes and sharing them, or it can mean actually ordering the mixed menu where you simply pay by the head and the chef provides an assortment of food for your table. If this is your first visit, I highly recommend the latter. Just tell your server you want a faimly style meal for however many people you have with the dips/sides and they will bring you a platter of mixed, grilled, seasoned meal with potatoes and vegetables and an assortment of sides and I promise you will be in heaven with each bite. So, why only 4 stars? I had to take one of for the service which can vary wildly from visit to visit. Strangely, if you are there when it is busy, the service is very attentive. But if you are there when it is slow, and god help you if you are seated in a corner, you may actually need to go find a waiter for drink refills or more bread. It's not a big deal, but can be annoying when you want to keep enjoying your delicious meal but your beer and water has gone dry. Regardless, don't let that stop you from checking this place out. It is absolutely a top 5 restaurant in Essen and if you are there, you owe it to yourself to give it a try!

It has 4.7/5 out of 620 reviews on trip advisor and 9.6/10 out of 936 reviews on the fork nl. I would give this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could. As shown in the photos, our favorites we would highly recommend are both the Chopan Salat and Mantoe for the appetizer, the Lunkho dish (if you like lamb this is one of the best lamb dishes I've ever had) for the entree, and the traditional Afghan milk pudding for dessert. Not pictured, but their house made lemonade is also fantastic and it made sparkling with mint (not too sweet). I initially found this restaurant on yelp and its high reviews and photos of the food caught my eye - I knew my father and I had to try it. We both cook and travel a lot (my father has been to 70 countries) and it was hands down one of the best meals my father and I have ever had anywhere. I did not take photos of the restaurant but the decor was absolutely beautiful as well as the traditional flute music they played at a perfect volume. The staff and the chef himself were all very kind and informative throughout the dining experience and went above and beyond to accommodate us. I will say come to this place with all your appetite because you will not be able to take your leftovers to go. The chef made an exception for us once and gave us one of their china plates with foil on top to allow us to take our leftovers to go since we did not know about the rule. Luckily we are staying close by and were able to return the plate because we wanted to return the above and beyond hospitality - the chef originally even told us to keep the plate! Food, service, and dining experience were all above and beyond. I am moving to Tilburg for a year for university and I will definitely be back multiple times.
