When I passed by in the morning it wasn't open, but even then there were books outside just calling out to be perused. So upon my return, some 7 hours later, I stopped in. Easy parking out front. It's huge. Books for days. These are used books, and many are in great shape, and priced accordingly. This isn't the cheapest used bookstore I've come across, but I think it's the most extensive. I wasn't looking for anything specific so didn't ask for anything. But I spent time in the cookbook and travel book sections. Huge. So many to choose from. Many decades of choices, including recent, especially important in the travel book section. I found the pricing a little higher than I expected, but I picked up some books anyway. Used bookstores keep books relevant and out of landfills both. Gotta love that.

We went in winter and it was beautiful with snow and ice everywhere, but I believe it would be equally pretty when it's warmer and one could wander about a bit more. There is a pretty library nearby as well and a nice truss bridge. It is closed in winter (after October?) so we'll have to back for a better look.

The Old Round Church in Richmond is a scenic spot for a wedding-- and everyone seems to know it…read more In the summer, if you drive through Richmond between 10am and 4pm you will nearly always see vestiges of wedding. Because the Church is not a practicing church (there are no weekly services) they do as many as three weddings there a day on Saturdays and Sundays May-October. The up side of this is that your date is unlikely to be fully blocked out. The down side to this is that you have little buffer on either side of the ceremony to decorate and un-decorate the building. The inside of the church is well-restored and if you're into a super-new-england-yankee aesthetic, you're in for a treat. It's unique inside and out and the views of the surrounding mountains outside add to the ambiance. Another tiny set-back (but not enough to knock a star off in my opinion, there are too many great things about the space) is that those Yankee Protestants of the early 1800s were by an large a lot smaller than we are today, so the pews can be a little tight for larger (or pregnant) guests. Also, it's BYO - officiant-- so you can have the scenic, yankee, vermonty setting in a church and you can have your ceremony be any denomination you want...or none. Fab.

The town is the home of one of the Lake Champlain ferries and operates year round to Essex, New York. The library is smaller - the town only recorded 3912 residents in 2020 - so there wasn't much room. But they had a table, a power outlet (a bit of a stretch) and a free wifi. I hung out here for a bit and then headed on to check out the ferry. There are public restrooms here and it is located next to the Charlotte town hall. Beautiful old building that's clearly well cared for and preserved. There was a book sale going on…read morewhen I visited, and they were also hosting a music and poetry event with free admission. Even without an event, it is such a fun place to just wander around. There is a community board, lots of unique seating areas, and a whimsical children's section that was especially cute. They even had tote bags for sale if you want a souvenir. The whole space spans three levels, with community artwork on display throughout. Just a really special place to spend some time. I'm so glad that such a beautiful building is so well preserved and cared for.
