I noticed something odd when I first arrived at his practice. It had been listed on the Blue Cross website as being the office for him and his wife Tatyana, also a doctor. But her name had obviously been recently removed from the exterior sign and all the interior signage. I didn't think much about that at the time, but on reflection, it may have been a warning of what was to come. Maybe it wasn't the staff's fault that the tiny waiting room was filled with screaming children hitting each other with no parental supervision in sight. The office staff seemed to feel that the waiting room was not under their control and whatever happened there was none of their business. Wait at your own risk! When I was seen by Dr. Gorokhov, I was struck by his melancholic attitude. This worsened as I tried to explain my medical situation to him. Still, I was amazed when, before I had finished, he shouted, "You're lying, aren't you?" I explained that I was not but he continued to assert throughout the interview that I was lying and that his guesses at my medical situation were more accurate than my own decades of experience with it. In retrospect, I should have left then. His abrasive attitude continued as he asked me if I knew what an allergy to gluten was (although I have never had any symptoms of gluten allergy, he claimed that was what was really the matter with everyone). I said, "Yes, it's an allergy to wheat." "No!" he bellowed. "How can you be so ignorant? Don't you know you can look it up on the internet?" So how was I so wrong? It was, he informed me, an allergy to wheat *and* bulgar. I suppose I should have been more specific! So the office visit was a waste of time and money. He put me through several expensive tests even though I told him that they had been done within the past few months by my previous doctor in South Georgia and that all he had to do was request the results from her. (But then he couldn't have made any money from them, could he?) However, my biggest shock was when I received the results (yes, he sent them by mail) of the blood test. When he decided to do the blood test rather than get the results from the one my previous doctor in Statesboro had done only a couple of months before, he asked if I had eaten recently. I told him I had just eaten lunch. "Well," he said, "That won't matter." Was I surprised when I got the results! He sent the normal results for a fasting blood sugar test--for which the patient is not to have eaten or drunk anything but water for ten hours previously--and compared them to my results right after lunch so he could claim I had a new "serious medical condition" for which, of course, I would need to have extensive expensive treatment by him with a side order of abuse. My only medical training is working as a medical transcriptionist for some years, but even I know that you need to be fasting for the results of a fasting blood sugar test to be valid! Could he really not know this? After I found a much better doctor, I realized that his accusatory and malicious attitude, at least, might have been caused by a recent acrimonious separation or divorce from his wife Tatyana. He seemed determined to take it out on all middle-aged women. Perhaps he would be more polite to a man, but really, do you need a doctor who doesn't know the difference between fasting blood sugar and feasting blood sugar? Save your health, save your self-respect, and avoid this one at all (his very high) costs!

Furthermore, while the results of my bloodwork were good and unloaded into the patient's portal the following morning, Dr. Smiddy had an associate call me just to reassure me that everything was fine, which is a courtesy I've not experienced since patient records were put online. I had a horrific experience with Dr. Vojdani for what was supposed to be a partial knee…read morereplacement. At the last minute, he informed me that I needed a full replacement instead, citing new technology that supposedly works well for young, active patients like me. He assured me I "could do anything I want" with the new knee. As someone who was very active and exercised 7 days a week, this swayed me. After weighing the pros and cons, I reluctantly agreed. This turned out to be the worst decision of my life. I have since been severely limited in my activities, and my quality of life has been drastically reduced. The implant never integrated properly, leaving me in excruciating pain for over 1.5 years. Immediately after surgery, my leg was severely swollen and bruised from groin to toes, which is not normal. At my 2-week follow-up, I had to be prescribed aggressive medications to reduce the swelling. Post-surgery, there was no recommendation for in-person physical therapy; everything was app-based, which felt inadequate. I had to push for a referral to in-person PT because my slow progress and constant pain did not seem right. Follow-ups only lasted 6 months, and at that final appointment, a CT scan was ordered. Dr. Vojdani claimed my pain was from hyper bone growth in an old ACL tunnel from 20+ years ago. However, when I later requested my medical records, there was no mention of this. The CT report actually indicated the implants were suspected to be loose, which was never disclosed to me. This lack of transparency is incredibly unethical. Misled by this, I spent the next 3 months in agonizing sessions with a private sports physical therapist, thinking I just needed more aggressive rehab, with very little progress. Finally, after a year of suffering, I consulted multiple other surgeons, all confirming the implants were loose and had never healed. I underwent a full revision with a different doctor. To be fair, Dr. Vojdani does have good bedside manner and is patient when listening to patients. However, the failure to disclose the suspected loose implants outweighs that entirely. The revision surgery outcome has been significantly better. My progress at 3 weeks post-revision has already exceeded what I achieved in 6 months after the initial surgery. Dr. Vojdani's inadequate follow-up, poor post-op care, and lack of honesty turned a routine procedure into a nightmare. Avoid at all costs if you're considering knee surgery.

My wife answered those questions but did not seek treatment for any new issues. The physician ordered routine blood work, including tests that she has received as part of her annual physical for several years. We were surprised to later receive a bill for a separate office visit. We were told that because pre-existing conditions were discussed during the appointment, the visit was billed separately. We also received a separate bill from the lab for the blood work. What makes this particularly frustrating is that my wife has had these same routine tests performed during her annual physicals for the past four years at this practice without receiving an additional office visit charge or lab charge. Patients should be aware that discussing existing medical conditions during an annual physical at Northside Primary Care Midtown (previously Midtown Medical Associates), even when responding to questions from the physician, will result in additional charges. Basic tests such as cholesterol, lipid profile etc. is not covered under the annual physical with this practice anymore. We wish this had been explained clearly before or during the appointment so we could have made an informed decision. We are disappointed and concerned about the transparency of the billing process. We will look for another doctor.
