Currently under the direction of the Shannon family, the business is fondly called "Shannon's" by locals. The Shannons do a very good job of treating everyone with respect and dignity, as you would expect during a very stressful time. They are very nice people and go out of their way to support community events--especially local youth sports. There are only two drawback to using their services: One is the size of their facility. If you have a large funeral, their place fills up very quickly. There's only room for about about 80 people. The second is that they are located directly on a very busy state highway, about a half-a-block from a major intersection with a traffic light. I have been to many funerals where the service was drowned-out by some insensitive clod blasting a car stereo while waiting for the light to change.

I could write pages about how wonderful Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home was in caring for my…read morefamily during our time of grief. We physically lost two loved ones, and we would not go to anyone else but Strano & Feeley. The excellent customer service begins with the initial home call, taking possession of the deceased loved one (e.g., at home or hospital), then the intake meeting with the family. The clean calming atmosphere starts outside (e.g., fishpond) then continues inside with comfortable furniture and smiling staff to greet you. No matter which staff you receive for the intake meeting, they all conduct themselves with professionalism, care, and provided clear information on the various options. As a grieving loved one, I'd suggest you come to the table with your grief but an open mind and patience with your loved ones present with you and the staff. What I appreciated was for one loved one- we had all the answers prepared, for the other we were figuring out as we went along- staff provided time and space in the intake meeting for us to calmly figure things out. Having someone take notes in the family to compare with the staff's notes is always useful - they were always on point anyway but it's good to remember what you ordered and they will provide you a folder with information from the initial session as well. Any insurance or cemetery logistics were handled on the phone right away by the staff in the first session - which was amazing to watch them navigate the complex systems of care. We had a loved one cremated and another buried in a nearby state - the funeral home still took care of everything, just be sure to provide your photos, music and obituary timely. Nothing was overly complicated and if it was, they never showed it, just showed up for us in every way - we had no worries. When it was time to collect our loved one's things (e.g. urn or possessions not buried) they provide you with a beautiful bag of memories, some unexpected, that showed more care than we could have imagined. By the end of our grieving season this summer - this had become not only a funeral home but an appendage to our family. The staff will forever be a part of our loved ones' legacy. P.S. I would highly recommend the nearby Atterbury VFW - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3420 for a repast and their regular caterer Ms. Lori. Everyone was such a blessing and joy to work with, and they took care of absolutely everything including décor and the food was delicious. Thank you to Jamie and the ENTIRE Strano & Feeley team, With Gratitude, The Gillyard Family

The room was filled with memorabilia from his life. On the TV was a slideshow of him and his family, and family photos were displayed throughout the room. We had plenty of time to watch the dvd and look around at the belongings that represented the man we knew. Then we shared stories about him and his life, some funny, some sad, some things most of never knew. It was a tremendously powerful way to remember him and grieve his death. People showed up from all over to join the celebration, and I met lifelong friends I'd heard about but never met. We all left feeling a little better about a sad death. I wish all funeral homes held LIfe Celebrations like this. Everyone there was impacted favorably, and I think we would all agree that this was the best possible way to honor my uncle and process our grief.

We have a family history with DuBois Funeral Home so when my mother died we chose to go with…read moreDuBois. The morning my mom died, we met as a family and took a call from the funeral director. In our first conversation, he made a comment about being tired because he had to get up early to pick up my mother's body and "had to be up all night". A couple of days after my mom died, my dad made a comment about not knowing when he would get her ring. As he had quite a bit on his plate, I told him I would call the funeral home on his behalf to inquire about her ring. I called and reached the funeral director. When I asked about her wedding band, his first response was to say she wasn't wearing one. I explained that she was. My mom had bad arthritis and her ring couldn't be removed due to her swollen knuckle, so there was no question that she was wearing her ring. The funeral director again told me that the ring must have been left at the hospital. I reiterated that her ring was on her finger as it could not be removed. At this point, the funeral director informed me that her ring was cremated and with her ashes. I was upset to hear this, but I told myself that there was nothing that could be done and prepared to exit the call. As I was about to exit the call, Mr. Dubois asked me "Why didn't you tell me you wanted the ring?" I stopped Mr. Dubois and asked him to please not put the missing ring on my family. In response, Mr. Dubois stated that he hoped someday I could understand how difficult his job was. I was so taken aback by his response that I repeated what he said incredulously, to which he replied that I was obviously an "angry woman". I was again shocked that this was his response. When I stated that I was upset that my mom's ring was gone, Mr. Dubois responded that I was lying and that my mother's ring wasn't gone, it was with her ashes. After this back-and-forth, I asked him to please stop as I was grieving and upset that I couldn't give my dad his wife's ring. Mr. Dubois told me I had an anger problem, and that I "wouldn't accept his apology", before hanging up on me. Saying "you won't accept my apology" isn't an apology. As the ring was gone and we were in the middle of planning her memorial, I did my best to move forward. On the day of the memorial service, my family and I set up memorial tables with mementos of my mom's life. Once the service started, we were very busy greeting visitors and weren't paying attention to the memorial tables. After the service, we realized that the funeral home staff had covered the tables with programs and the sign-in book - right on top of the mementos we had laid out. They didn't ask us if they could do this or request we move anything--they just put them right on top. My mom's ring and a smooth service couldn't bring her back, but not having her ring, in particular, is a loss we feel. No one is perfect and mistakes are understandable. Mr. Dubois' response was not.
