We signed a contract with Chris Laneve of Lawn 2 Lanai to vinyl side our house and garage on October 30, 2018. We clearly stated we wanted him to be working the job, that we did not want the job "subbed out". The finish date on the contract was November 29, 2018. As of April 5, 2019 it was not even halfway finished and Laneve never worked a day on the job. He called riding by in his vehicle as checking on the job being done by two guys he hired. Even though they were not working other jobs, these workers would show up at 12:30, if at all, and leave between 3:00 to 4:30. They never worked on a weekend day to make up for time missed by a few days of poor weather during the week and would take multiple cigarette breaks and even a meal break during this minimal work schedule.
Laneve never provided any refuse containers for his workers so the scrap materials kept piling up and blowing all over the neighborhood. We were forced to pick up what we could and put it in our own garbage cans. We phoned and texted Laneve multiple times to Come and take this trash and he would say someone would come "tomorrow" or not reply at all. No one showed. After at least 6 calls over a month's time, my brother texted Laneve that if he didn't take his job site trash out of here he was going to dump it on his lawn. Laneve replied, "Get f'ed".
Then there was the huge inconvenience of having the gutters taken down for the whole winter. The buildup of ice on our walkways was treacherous especially since I am in my 60's with both hips replaced.
Another one of many issues with this so called contractor was the lost opportunity to obtain a sizable rebate from the siding manufacturer. One of the reasons we chose Ply Gem vinyl siding was because they were offering a $250 rebate during the time the materials would be ordered. I would have taken care of the form but Laneve said he would handle it after placing the order. I waited months for the rebate and finally called Ply Gem. They had no record of a rebate being applied for under our name or Lawn 2 Lanai or under Laneve. I made an inquiry about it to both Laneve and his office assistant but received no explanation why it wasn't applied for.
April 5, 2019 was the day he called me an f'ing miserable b word and threatened me to "watch my back" because I telephoned to complained about no one showing to work the job on that perfect weather day. Laneve revealed that the two would not be at work because one of the worker's brother-in-law had a kidney stone. I reported the threat to our local police to document Laneve's explosive temper and his unprofessional manner. We ended up having to pay for a lawyer to make sure this guy stayed away from us.
