We decided to go a little bit further so we didn't have such a long travel day on the last day. We were so pleasantly surprised with this KOA. We have traveled the entire United States and stayed at many RV parks and KOA. This spot in the middle of nowhere surprises us in the most best possible way! They were friendly and kind and courteous. They have a menu that you can order dinner from that is delivered to your site. And it's home cooked and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had a meat plate with brisket and ribs and I had the 12 inch pizza. It was better than any restaurant! They also serve free pancakes and coffee in the morning for anyone who wants breakfast. They even have a little store as well. This will be our stop going forward when we're traveling to the Midwest and east! We absolutely loved it.

The gal said she could only put me in site six which was not close because nothing else was open and there were only 50 amp sites close to the building. We told her that we had a converter and that was not a problem. When we arrived and we saw where the site was, I walked back and asked the gentleman inside who accommodated us immediately. A fifth wheel pulled up next to us and unhooked everything only to find out that the sites in actuality only have 30 amp, not 50 amp so they had to hook everything back up and move to a different location. They were not happy. This stuff is pretty basic - it's important to know what sites can accommodate what type of vehicles. The park seems to be next to what looks like a stockyard. Not very appealing. On the upside, they have very nicely marked trails that you can walk with signs describing the various lava formations and we enjoyed that. The other upside is that they serve free pancake breakfast in the morning, which we did not go to, but it was nice offering and also have a kitchen at night so you can order food and they'll deliver it to your site. they have two dog sites. One is very small and the other is a little larger, both without grass. Just gravel. There's no shade and it's incredibly dusty. And people go through the park fairly quickly creating a lot more dust. Not sure what they could do about it. It's just the situation to be aware of. The restrooms were clean.

The amazing gentleman behind the register walked us through the menu, told us to take our time and they would love having us join them. The chef came out and talked to my sweetie about Gluten Free food and what he could make for her. Never have I expected amazing stand out food in out of the way small cafes. Usually I am just happy to fill my belly. This cafe not only had the best service I have ever experienced but the food was stellar! I would go out of my way to eat here again. Everyone there was so happy to to wait on us, feed us and talk with us to understand why we were visiting. They served 3 more groups of late arrivAl's `after we showed up and with each one, they welcomed them with open arms and made sure they too had a great meal and great service. If you are within an hour of this cafe, I highly recommend you make it to their door! Every other restaurant could learn from this wonderful group of people. Service with a smile, incredible food, personal service from wait staff and the chef! The home made pizza was the best I have ever experienced. Incredible crust and unique and delicious toppings!!!!

We had made reservations for 2 nights at El Morro, confirmed by an e-mail, and stating that we would receive an e-mail AND a text with the the code to our cabin several days before our arrival. We received NOTHING!! Attempts to reach anyone that could confirm that we had a place to stay by phone on the day of our arrival were fruitless. It took over an hour to finally receive a call from the owner. By That time we had made other plans, as the drive to El Morro without a confirmation that we had a place to stay was just too big of a risk. El Morro's failure to follow through on our reservation as they said that they would, along with the total inability to contact someone at the site that had a clue as to what was going on caused us to miss spending time with friends that we had not seen in over 30 years. There is nothing that can be done to replace that.....

I was visiting New Mexico in January and was bummed to see that WSWS was closed online; however, after reaching out in advance, Brittany was kind enough to accommodate our visit. I'm so glad that she did since it was one of the highlights of my trip! When we arrived, we met Stephanie at the visitor center. We had to knock several times to get a response, and when she opened the door, customer service was nonexistent. There was a scheduling mishap with our tour, and she made my friend and I feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. She told us that we could walk around, but nobody would be available to give us a tour. My friend and I went outside, and fortunately, one of the staff passed by then turned around to guide us through the sanctuary. August was a fantastic guide and completely made up for the poor experience that we initially had. He was extremely knowledgeable, and it was awesome to hear about each dog's story, their care, and the community's support for WSWS. I decided to sponsor Atlas, a 12-year old wolf dog, and look forward to staying up to date on his well being.

Don't miss this if you're anywhere nearby. Doing the route 66 through New Mexico it's not that long a drive from Gallup. There aren't too many places to stay down here but right next-door (by local standards) is the El Morro RV camp and cabins, which also has an excellent restaurant. Another travel tip - if you're coming down here come on Wednesday or Thursday and stay over the weekend. Things are closed at the beginning of the week, including the not to be missed El Morro National Monument.

The bathrooms are acceptable, but please fix the locks on the stalls. Sites are very narrow, but the concrete pads are new and are they level! There seems to be a good deal of workers staying here, which kind of makes it a little sketchy (just a feeling, nothing happened but single women might want to know this). The dog run is tiny, in the back corner and pretty useless. It also appears that many persons believe that if their dog uses the edge of the camp road near the expressway that they don't have to clean it up. Nasty folk do that-pick up after your dogs, people! Would I stay here again? I don't know, with at least 5-6 other RV parks within 25 miles, I might try somewhere else. In regards to the Good Sam discount, we booked on line and it was honored. Also, we did get the discount off the advertised price.

We had a dispersed campsite nearby all set for the night. At the last minute, I remembered staying here before in May of 2021. Clean spot. Has laundry facilities. Nice that it has a brewery attached; of which we looked forward to visiting again. Heck, I even am willing to give up a good nights sleep, to get caught up on our laundry! (If you are unaware, the RV Park is just yards from the I-40. And, you hear the truck traffic noise 24/7.) Being on a month long road trip, we had collected quite a bit of laundry. We still have about 10 days remaining on our trip. So, the MAIN reason for paying nearly $40 for the night in a RV park versus a free dispersed campsite in the beautiful surrounding BLM lands, was to get all 4 loads of laundry done in one or two sessions: jeans, towels, delicates, and regular clothing. We needed a "reset" day. We hauled the two, full laundry baskets across the RV park, and loaded up the only two washing machines there. There're also two dryers. All machines showed that it is $2.00 to operate them. We put in the correct amount and shut the doors...but...it failed to stay closed on one of the washers. After examining the door, we noticed that a part to hold the door closed, was broken. Obviously, it has been that way for some time now, as you can see in the pic, there is both new detergents and softeners, as well as really old ones. People have loaded it up numerous times before us, before realizing it is broken. Sickening and gross. Anyway, because there isn't one of those numbers to call after a vending type machine rips you off, my husband went to inform the only person available - which was the bartender. He said that they're "aware of it." His boss "knows about it...tried to fix it...needs to order the part..." to which my husband said - "So you're telling me I'm SOL?" The on duty Rep for the RV Park replied in the affirmative. SOL. Which is another way of saying FU. They've known for a while now, and have not unplugged it, nor placed an "OUT OF ORDER" sign on the thieving machine. I think that's as crooked as it gets: to knowingly take money without providing goods or a service. Sneaky. Scamming unsuspecting guests - who will just shrug off the $2 bucks. Not me. This is what Yelp was created for, in my opinion; to make customers aware of the good AND the bad. And in this case, the flippant way of treating your paying guests. The bartender could have offered a discounted beer, handed over two dollars, or said he'd let the owner know and will credit another load of laundry to us. None of that has happened. Better customer service would go a long way - especially in the hospitality business. And believe me, it's not like we are broke and NEED the $2 bucks. It's about being RIPPED OFF...and nobody giving a crap. So, this $2 buck tour of our experience at Lavaland RV Park is now concluded. And, trust me, that is the last $2.00 the owner will ever steal from us. As repeat guests, we will never stay here again! Do not put your money into those machines. Shame, shame, shame... Oh! And after writing my $2 buck tour of this business, and before I post it - I want to let the message get to the owner overnight and give him the benefit of the doubt, and wait to hear back. I also took another look at the Yelp Reviews. Lo and behold! Check out the hidden "1 Review not currently recommended" at the bottom of the page. It's by a Brent D., written nearly 8 years ago. I've included a screenshot for reference. Seems integrity is scarce around here. And yet, I'll still give the owner until we leave to refund our lost money, before I post this. It's currently 6pm, 04 FEB 2022. Well, it's now 6:40pm the following day. And not a word from the owner, or anyone associated with Lavaland Rv Park. So, enjoy the $2 buck tour! ;)
