I never had a cavity in my life. Ever. It even showed in my records that they have since I was a child that I've never had any issues besides having braces. So when I went to Melissa for my first time, I was shocked when she said she found a tiny cavity on one of my premolars. I thought whatever, that time had to come eventually so I scheduled to get a filling. My entire life changed after the moment she started drilling into my tooth. I noticed after the numbing wore off that hot & cold food made my tooth that was filled feel like a shot of pain through my entire head.. and when I bit down on something with that tooth, it felt like it was going to shatter. So I went back & told Melissa what happened, she drilled my tooth down, gave me sensitivity tooth paste & sent me on my way. I came back TWO MORE TIMES AND SHE JUST KEPT DRILLING DOWN MY TOOTH FURTHER AND FURTHER. I have been to three different dentists now & each one has said that I need a root canal because of how far Melissa drilled down into my tooth, she literally hit my nerve & it shows in the xrays below. If the cavity was so little why in the world did you drill all the way down to my nerve!!! I have spent countless dollars now trying to fix the botched cavity filling Melissa performed. She honestly should have her dental license removed for malpractice. It's absolutely ridiculous. I have cried over this, I still can't chew or drink anything cold or hot on the left side of my mouth & I've had to wait a year and a half now to get a root canal because I had to get an entirely new dental plan to cover it. I'd just like to say that I'm only twenty years old, I have to pay $2000 for a root canal at twenty years old but somehow I've went my entire life without a cavity until I went to Melissa Rea's office. After receiving a quote of over $1,000 for the bone graft--significantly more than the cost of the same procedure she received last year at her regular dentist for about a third of the price--we were understandably confused. We asked to speak with Dr. Drooger to better understand why the price was so inflated. When he entered the room, his demeanor was nothing short of unprofessional. His first words were, "Yeah?"--hardly a welcoming or respectful way to address a patient's concerns. When I introduced myself as her husband and tried to ask for a detailed explanation of the costs and the procedure, his only response was, "It costs this much because I went to school for 16 years." That was the extent of his explanation--no insight into the procedure, no breakdown of the charges, just a rude and dismissive attitude. We were left in disbelief at how we were treated. He didn't explain any of the procedure codes or why this bone graft was priced so much higher than the one my wife had received previously. Instead, he rushed out of the room without providing any further clarification, leaving us feeling dismissed and disrespected. After the encounter, we expressed our dissatisfaction with his behavior, but unfortunately, the damage had already been done. Although his dental assistant tried to answer our questions, the lack of professionalism and medical explanation left us with no confidence in proceeding with the surgery. We ultimately decided to leave and not go through with the procedure. The worst part is, that I would have probably paid for the overpriced bone graft had we been treated with basic dignity. My wife and I both took time off work for this appointment, only to be met with poor customer service and an unwillingness to address our concerns. We will not be returning and cannot recommend Dr. Drooger to anyone seeking quality care and professionalism. The smells of the office, the pain, the condescending remarks about my teeth, the anxiety about where the money will come from. It took me a few days to finally call but when I did I was surprised that i was almost immediately put at ease by the incredibly kind receptionist. I briefly told her my concerns and the level of anxiety I generally have and she actually listened, took note and genuinely seemed to care. This morning I woke up 4 hours before my appointment due to an already increased build up of anxiety. It turns out none of this anxiety was necessary. After sitting in the waiting room for only about 5 minutes I was brought back to the exam room by the dental hygienist. I can not remember her name but she was so sweet and kind. Then Dr. Hanko came in and since she knew how anxious I was, instead of getting straight to work she sat down next to the chair and asked me to tell her about my self, what my concerns with my teeth are and what she could do to make my appointments easier. When I was giving her my information she listened, asked questions when necessary and not once made me feel judged. Then she asked if she could take a look in my mouth. Part way through her examining my teeth I realized for the first time ever I was sitting in a dentist chair and NOT shaking with anxiety.
