You have to think yourself around this course. Use the yardage guide they have to define your strategy on each hole. Layout 5: there are three 9's each with their own character. Desert 9 is flat with some water features. Coming from the California desert this is more like a "prairie" nine. The heritage 9 starts with a downhill par 5 that forces you to lay up at 230 yards or less. Target golf. Take care not to drive it too long as several fairways end in a river or barranca. Use the yardage guide. Even with a range finder I needed the guide to plan a strategy on each hole. When I failed to use the guide I payed the price by running out of fairway a few times or hitting into bad places. Greens 5: stimping around 11 and rolling true. Bent grass greens that were perfect. Spoke with a greens-keeper and since it had rained the greens werent as hard as they could get. Ouch! Lucky for me they were just soft enough. I am not a great putter and I made 6 birdies in my round! If I read it right the ball went in the hole. Staff 5: friendly and helpful. That's all I ask of staff. Friendly and helpful. Eliminate rudeness and be warm. That was my experience. Pace of play 5: 4 1/2 hours. A slower group let us play through but even they were on a 4.5 hour round pace. Marshals were helpful in keeping people moving politely. Experience 5: it was a fun course. Will play it every time I visit Calgary.

They were gas powered and one was even slower than the other. They had NO ice chests or golf ball washers. When we finished and returned the carts, we noticed that many of the carts were much better. We complained to the staff in the pro shop who offered us a raincheck, but we flew to be there and won't come back. They offered to have their pro Chris Cooke call or email us and he never did, no surprise. Great views, but I wouldn't go there again. Kananaskis, about 35 minutes away was a far superior experience.

The clubhouse is a nice setting, the washrooms were upscale and clean. Heading out on the course the signage was relatively clear even for first time players of the course. There is a canteen and starter hut at the clubhouse as well as a canteen midway through the front and back 9. The staff were all friendly, and we didn't find them the least bit pretentious. (There are also many weddings and receptions held here) Bring your camera to this course and play when they are less busy, as once you make your way up the mountain side, the views are spectacular. Playing twilight with the sun setting behind the mountains made the scene even more incredible. There are sme nice designed features that make the course more beautiful again. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in rather good shape for the time of year. The cart paths are crazy winding and often steep. The electric carts have no trouble making the round, but you need to drive cautiously. There were plenty of animals along the course that added to the setting, For a not very skilled female golfer, I enjoyed how forgiving the fairways are. The hills funnel my bad shots back into the fairway. The fairways were wide enough and the tree lines cleared well enough, that I only recall losing one ball all round. This may not be a great course for a highly skilled strategic golfer do to the hills and funnel effect, but it was a fun course and I would love to go back again!

I don't think I've ever had a better server. She was the friendliest, kindest, attentive server I've seen. She had a huge tableful of people and us on the patio - she made sure not to ignore us even though the other table was busy and they also all paid separately, so that would take up a bit of time for most people. When they left, we had one other couple join the patio. She made sure to come out often enough but also let us enjoy our time. She made some great food recommendations as well. She also treated us to Fiasco Gelato for dessert once she found out how much I love it and because it was our anniversary. How sweet is that?! The only reason that I am giving four stars is that the patio is small and you are sitting very close to know another. There is no music or anything so you feel kinda awkward having a conversation (especially if the other table is sitting there quietly). There is also no hostess to show you where to go, so we weren't sure where and when to sit. The view is spectacular though and the course looks amazing! The food is delicious and the drinks are good too! Big kudos to Jenny though. She certainly deserves a five star rating.

The course was well maintained and very forgiving if you slice or hook your shots. I would give it more stars if the Marshals weren't suck jerks. We tee'd off at 9:18 and they were giving us a warning by the ninth hole because our pace of play was too slow. On the score card, they have a the time listed for pace of play at 2:02 minutes. By the ninth hole, we were suppose to be 11:20 and we finished the hole at 11:19. There was a twosome behind us and they never had to wait to tee off. That ruined the whole experience for me. I told the marshals that we were below the pace of play but they only cared about rushing us through. There was also a group in front of us so I wasn't sure where the problem was.

I would give Blue Devil this, they are better than McKenzie Meadows. Outside Service Staff was great, set my bag up on a cart and gave me extra tees when I asked. ProShop was good too, checked me in without any mishaps when using a corporate pass. The golf itself is boring, hit it straight and you're good. There are no holes that are impressive or is a "favorite." The King and Devil Tap and Grill... not great. Like Brent J. said, there is a wood fetish going on. I wouldn't mind the wood if they were actually able to make their wood table tops have a flat surface! Most of the time service is very slow and getting a refill seems impossible. Employees at McDonalds work harder than some of the servers there. Food was good, nothing exciting. I have played Blue Devil 5 times, 3 rounds in 2014 and 2 in 2015, so I am not just basing my opinion off a 1 time event. Why would I play this course 5 times if I do not like it? Hard to say no to free golf thanks to company corporate pass. Also, "Kristy K" is an employee at Blue Devil so of course she will give the course a great review.
