Truly excellent for kids two years old and up. Very cheap for children $10 for a 2 hour session. Great facilities. Adequate cafe.

An awesome alternative to paintball, I'd say just as painful haha…read more It works much like paintball does, teams battle it out to become Victor. There are 4 teams each with its own coloured bows and masks to match with about 6 members per team. The first half an hour runs over rules and target practice to get the feel for the bow and loading your arrow. The arrows have a rubber tip on the end which does not decrease accuracy. You then get a debrief on how it works and what will happen for the next stage - team vs team! You then play a series of mini games, which will probably vary on the day but we played a game where it was 2v2 firing squad - both teams stood against the wall and fired at the other team and you weren't allowed to dodge. So it was an elimination game where after each round each team took a step forward towards each other. The next was a dodgeballesk game, 2v2 where you couldn't cross the halfway mark but had to eliminate the enemy team - if you were hit anywhere, including your bow you were out - the twist is if you hit targets you can revive your teammates and even better if you catch an arrow on the full your whole team is revived. My favourite mode was zombies vs humans in a 1v3 match, one team is the zombies and can run the whole field while they try and convert the humans to zombies in a time attack mode. Each team has a go at starting as the zombies and trying to win in the best time - winning is accomplished by converting the whole zombie team. They are starting a tournament that will run weekly on Thursdays. It gets pretty intense when you are trying to keep an eye on the field for incoming arrows while you're trying to also load your next arrow and then aim but if you enjoy team sports that involve being target practice you will love this!! This definitely pointed out how unfit I am :) Also shout out to the staff there, the refs are humorous and keep everyone safe :)

This has got to be one of the funnest activities I've ever played! the referee was fantastic, we…read moreplayed about 4 different game modes. The greatest thing about this is that it's so exhilarating from start to finish, duck, dive, dodge, weaving through arrows and so satisfying to nail your opponent in the chest (or head :P)

Ok, so you tried Bikram once and you passed out from the heat and awoke to an auctioneer-style…read moreinstructor barking orders at you and not even noticing your distress. You thought, 'bugger this hot yoga thing' But wait: not all hot yoga was created equally (only bikram yoga studios were) Fear not! There is another style which is practised in various locations. Often called 'power flow,' this vinyasa style which is often paired with yin, is in my opinion far more accessible, exciting and fun than any other type I've tried. I've sampled most studios in this area and Yoga 37 is my pick of the bunch. Here's why... It's laid back seeing and layout is far less pretentious than nearby studios. It has showers which are an essential for sweaty yoga (duh right?) but are missing from some competitors. The feeling of a neighborhood yogi family is created by the staff's willingness to have a chat before and after class. And I don't mean those chats where they tell you to get anal irrigation or to align your chi flow or generally make you feel like a clumsy incompetent yoga poser. Rather they will joke and share plans for the weekend. Personally I was shocked by the owner Penny, remembering my name after I only came along that one time! Another plus is that all classes are only 60min long. This means they are significantly more achievable for newbies and much easier to fit into your schedule compared to the 75-90 min sessions offered elsewhere. Thankfully they provide mats and all equipment, and if you get a trial offer online it will be far better value than others. So what's not to love? A word of caution though: your likely to commence a life long addiction to increased flexibility, clean skin and strength.

There is also an outdoor gym which is a great idea- I don't know any other gyms with one. There is a basketball stadium and outdoor tennis courts which are free for members to use, or public hire for a small fee. Group fitness classes vary in length (15min, 30min, 45min or 55min) so you can choose something to suit your schedule. There is a good variety of group fitness classes, with some modern ones like body barre and kettlebell. Occasionally there are meditation classes on a Friday night for a gold coin donation. There are plenty of family activities at this YMCA. Karate and gymnastics classes for kids, and gym and group fitness classes for the adults. All the personal trainers and staff are very friendly and learn all the customers names, a good community feel. Memberships here aren't the cheapest you will find, but I guess that's because there's not much competition around this area.

Through its journey, the creek meanders through suburbs, under highways and foot bridges and in recent times a concerted effort to clean the thing up has been taking place. Spearheaded by not-for-profit Friends Of Merri Creek, the clean up and re-vegetation of the banks of the creek is redeveloping this amazing environment around the creek. Birds and other native animals (notably, snakes) are moving back into the growing bush lands and there have even been reports of Platypus sightings in Thornbury.
