Nothing beats coming home to the North East than a load of freshly caught fish from the North Sea. Actually, let me rephrase that...Latimers used to be a small family run fish business where you could only buy what was caught the night before but now it has expanded and you can buy a whole array of fish. Fishing just off the coast still takes place though - so don't be disheartened. You can ask which fish has been caught locally. Apart from the really friendly staff, who are extremely knowledgeable about all of their fish (including how to cook it, what would taste nice with it etc) the shop and cafe is laid out in a welcoming way. You can either buy your fish from the counter to take away or sit in and try one of their delicious platters....Look at my photo of the crab platter (which was 14 pound!!!). It was incredible. This place is an absolute must for all fish lovers.

It has a Cafe, but this is closed at the moment, what a shame! My Mother spent a small fortune and we all agreed that everything was lovely and fresh as well as tasty and impressive. We were robbed though, the prices were well over the top and the place was somewhat pretentious. Not pre-packed, but fresh from the quayside. Fine fish is just the start though.... There is an amazing selection of fresh fruit and veg. It's perfect for all the seasonal and local produce anyone could want. It is convenient for lots of all the basics, like milk, cheeses, eggs, drinks and store cupboard foods tins and packets. Then the are the 'special extras'. The best kind of lucky dip is available for the taking - Quirky, different, unusual foods sit alongside some of the usual premium brands. Maybe they are sometimes classed a seconds, but hey hey, it all tastes the same whether it has the flashy packaging or not! I for one would rather have the extra £pounds in my pocket than squashed down cardboard in my recycling bin Homemade sandwiches, salads, hot drinks and even complete hot meals are also available. There's a full roast dinner on Sundays too. Outside catering completes the package! The menus are all really affordable and makes for great parties and celebrations. I visit this business 2/3 times a month to get FRESH FISH. The quality is very good and for a reasonable price. I think it is landed in Whitby, but not sure. It you want fresh fish inland then this is the place to visit. If they haven't got it you can ring and order to be collected the following week.

The choice is endless for example they have a tank of live lobsters, every type of shellfish, local fish and exotic. On my last visit I bought razer clams, lobster and john Dory. They sell wholesale or retail so you can bulk buy or just go in and pick up some prawns. They are very helpful in their advice on what type of fish to get and what you can do with them.

Numerous award winning butchers that offer prime cuts of meat, fantastic mince and healthy plump chickens and eggs! Wonderful bakery that makes the best breads and pastry I have tried. Wonderful vegetables and fruit stands where you get can a serious deal on great vegetables. Cheapest and most authentic pick and mix selection I have ever seen Fish monger, show repair, tea shop, cafes, clothing and boot sale, cd shops, home repair, clothing alterations ... Even a room with a scale in it! Grainger Market is magical. A must see, I consider the market a tourist attraction because of how traditional it is. The people in the booths all seem very authentic and very helpful.

Their own Oak Roast Salmon is the best I've ever had and the Oak-Roast Salmon Pate is truly amazing. If you want you could buy a full fish landed that morning and look across to the filleting table while they fillet it for you. All their fish is hand filleted. Good value and tasty.
