Kallie is the best ! Quality and kindness all in one. Can't say enough good about this shop !

What a great barber shop. I walked in on a Saturday and was made to feel like a regular. I'll be back...

Great ambience. Kalle did a great job on my hair and actually knew what she was doing unlike other places I've been to. I definitely will make this my go to. read more

Gorgeous interior and warm and welcoming staff. Halle did a fabulous job with my son, greats rates, wonderful cut, WE WILL BE BACK!!

Great cuts here and the barbers are always fantastic with my three sons. Easy online booking as well.

Excellent service! Everyone was very friendly, it had a family-like atmosphere. The price was also very reasonable. I'm always nervous to try a new place but I needed to for a friend's wedding. I was not disappointed. Mike did a great job and clearly has attention to detail. When I'm back up this way I'll definitely be coming to this barbershop again read more

I rarely write reviews these days, however if like me you are having trouble finding a good and reliable barber in the area, look no further. I moved to grass valley from the Bay Area a few years ago and in that time I've tried a lot of local barbers. Nothing come close to the quality and service provided by lather and steel. Specifically I want to shout out bob for the great cut and overall experience. read more

First time here. Grew my hair out for 1.5 yr. Use to drive to Auburn or Sac to a barber. Found this today and decided to give it a shot for my new look. I believe it was the owner Rob - I'm horrible at recalling names the first time. However, he took the time to listen and explain the cuts because I've had bad experiences where my faded stop abruptly. Took off just a good amount which my hair was shoulder length down to nose length with a look that didn't freak me out and could adjust if I needed so down the road. Took his time but was also quick if that makes sense. I def am returning and look forward to the progress of this shops renovation. Thank you again! read more

I brought in a friend to treat him to a haircut. Roger and James immediately made us feel welcome & comfortable. They chatted with this young man and offer him some sage advice. Roger has an amazing space that offers so much more than just a place to get a haircut. It feels like a place of refuge and positive manhood. read more

Top notch! If I lived here, I would never go anywhere else. Great folks! Their willingness to help, was truly epic. read more

They are very friendly and did a good job with my beard and the lining up. Took a little while, and also very overpriced. I paid $60 for a haircut plus tipped $10 cause they were very nice. But, they completely cut off my bangs in the front because they used clippers on the top when I specifically asked them to use scissors. I didn't notice my bangs were chopped off until I got home and showered. I was very upset, especially cause I was unsatisfied with a haircut that I paid $70 for. Would recommend for guys with short/bald hair but not long or medium length cause I don't think they have much experience in that. read more

Best haircut in awhile. Went in for a beard trim straight shave and a haircut. Came out looking great.

Great cuts, good price. They work pretty quick. Everyone is really chill. Yelp wants me to keep writing to post this as a review

I'm new to the area and just had my second haircut there. Kacie (sorry if I messed up the spelling) gave me a wonderful haircut and mustache/goatee trim. Very personable and very fair charge for the service provided. I will definitely be back! read more

one star because you were open.I thought I'd found a good shop on my last visit. What happened? 2:30 appt. I walk in fully masked as I'm health compromised and not stupid, 5-6 people including barbers and not one mask. Come on, there's hundreds of people a day in this county right now testing positive. Real macho BS. You know who I am so remove me from you computer list. Delete. read more

Always awesome! My husband and son absolutely love the service they get at Lather & Steel No matter who does their hair they always look fantastic and feel even better! read more

I walked by this place when I was in town visiting. I didn't get a service, but it has a super classic and welcoming vibe. The clients in chair were looking great. It's got a great old school feel with a modern confidence I can really appreciate as a fellow barber. Keep up the great work guys! I look forward to coming through next time I'm in town. read more

First time visit today for my 2 year old son, husband, and brother. All three needed haircuts, and my brother has a bushy beard that needed to be cleaned up. My son was super wiggly and difficult, but the owner was so patient and kind and did a great job. Levi spotted a Hot Wheels airplane on his station, and he even gifted it to him to help calm and distract him. Hubby's hair looks great and my brother's beard has never looked better! Everyone was so nice and really took their time. We will definitely be back. read more

Best haircut I've had in a long time. In fact it was more than just a haircut. It was a great experience as well. Dave is a great guy and really knows how to clean up a shaggy head of hair. read more

Its rare to meet a new stylist that feels like you've been going to for decades. Kacie is exactly that, a shaman who fills your life bar when you stop in, weary from your travels. I came in for a fresh shave and left feeling a foot taller. Kacie has a certain je ne sais quoi that will resonate with you well after you leave her chair. read more

This was the BEST shave and haircut I have had in many years! Devon did a great job from start to finish. He asked the style I wanted, lined me up with a straight blade, hot towel, and left me feeling like a million bucks. Devon was great and I will 100% book with him again. If you get here early you can sit in the massage chair while you wait... The prices are extremely reasonable considering the quality of the services. read more

The moment I came in I felt at home. The place is clean. The workers dress nice and look clean. Ambiance is relaxing with nice music. Free coffee and water. Masks required tank you. Plus free Cologne and post hair cut stuff essentials. read more

Went to Lather & Steel today to get a hair cut and beard trimmed. Bob was my barber and he was personable and did a great job on the hair cut and beard! Awesome bedside manner from Brenton(hope I spelled that right my dude) went a long way to make my experience here enjoyable. When I arrived at my 2:30 beard-cut appointment I was greeted with a calm, friendly atmosphere, and offered something to drink. After I was settled in the chair my Barber went right to work. Brenton started off the beard-cut with a hot rum towel. It was awesome and smelled great. Definitely loosened up my pores and had me feeling very relaxed. He then proceeded to spend what felt like an hour meticulously trimming and shaping my beard, and finished it off by hitting it with a straight razor for that extra clean look. Was very impressed with the tapering. If you have an important event coming up and want your hair or beard to look top-notch, then I would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more

Tricky time now with coronavirus, but L&S's barber Mike did an amazing job on my scruffy stay-at-home beard. I've been to quite a few barbers in SF who clearly don't know what they're doing and came in with modest expectations, but Mike blew me away. Well cut and styled, he's the best I've been to. Lucky to have in town and totally worth dropping in if you're on your way to Tahoe. Nice ambiance as well with coffee, water etc on tap that I'll enjoy more once things return to normal. read more

I'm very particular about my hair and who cuts it and I was searching for a good place to get my hair cut for a while and I can say hands down Janine gave me probably the best hair cut I've had it a long time. I wanted it short on the sides and long on the top, it came out great and just the way I like. she's was super sweet and attentive not to mention a major cutie. If your looking for a genuine barbershop with good barbers and great customer service this is the place to go. The atmosphere at Lather and steal is immaculate. Roger and Mike cut hair great as well. Definitely recommend read more

Was a little worried about finding a barber in a smaller town, coming from LA/Bay area. Brenton is really a world-class barber who keeps up to date with all the trends and products and makes your haircut a true experience. He'll hook you up. Dude knows what he's doing. read more

if you're going here for a beard trim, make sure you get the barber who has a beard. first time I went here, he did a great job. afterwards he scheduled me for another every month. when I went back today, it was a different barber, who didn't do a good job. he asked what I wanted but then did what he wanted. I asked him to trim the sides of the beard but leave the length in front. that was it. he cut the neckline way higher than i have had it and then cut a bunch out of the middle front where I specifically said not to cut. he does most of this with the chair facing out the door so there's no opportunity to see the mess he is making and stop it. Its so disappointing to leave a barber looking worse than when you came in. read more
