LATCH stands for Leeds Action To Create Homes and is a voluntary sector service that helps the homeless or those at risk of loosing their homes in the Leeds area. I have not had first hand experience with Latch but a friend of mine volunteered doing building work for them. They are doing a great service as so many people are at a total loss as what to do when they have no home. Whilst he volunteered with them they took on younger people who for some reason or another had difficulty finding work. Through helping with a building project they were able to learn the skills that could lead to paid work. The focus is on making old building livable rather than building new ones, which is great as there are so many abandoned houses in Leeds and far to many new ones being built, unnecessarily. read more
