Joanna is one of a kind, extremely personable and a true professional in the industry. Our original wedding date was set for 8/15/20 and getting engaged less than a year before, I was in a rush to lock in my team of vendors. I reached out to a friend who sent me multiple MUA suggestions, one being Joanna, as my friend was a bridesmaid in a recent wedding of hers. Joanna was available for my date and after chatting on the phone I quickly locked her in for myself plus 8 bridesmaids, my mom and future mother in law. We did my initial makeup trial in December 2020 and I was the bride that brought a few inspiration photos but didn't really give much direction to the look I was going for. Joanna was patient, confident and so skilled that she knew what look would complement my features/skin tone and went to work. She delivered A+ bridal glam while still having me look like my natural self, false lashes and all. She even updated my look right then after the trial by adding a red lip for my engagement shoot that afternoon, which was such a sweet and unexpected gesture. Fast forward to spring 2020, pandemic in full swing and a new wedding date of 6/26/21. Joanna stuck with me through all the many changes, didn't take advantage of the situation by adding contract addendum fees and even offered a Black Friday deal for rehearsal dinner glam for her brides. She stayed in touch, checked in and made me feel confident and excited for our new wedding date. Joanna also stayed on top of beauty and makeup trends while events were all cancelled or postponed during the spring. Her Instagram is my favorite as she shares honest opinions/reviews about both skin and makeup products. I also booked another make up session for round 2 engagement photos with Joanna that October and it's true talent when you can create multiple looks on the same person for different occasions. On the wedding day, Joanna brought an assistant with her (as planned) for our wedding day as we had 11 people total and her assistant was top of the line talent as well. My whole bridal party felt beautiful and our makeup lasted the entire night without even needing to touch up (although Joanna provides her brides with a generous touch up kit, just in case). It's also important to note that it was raining sideways and extremely humid, but looking at the bridal party, you'd never know judging by our long lasting glam. I highly recommend getting your makeup done for the rehearsal as well as I wish there was a recording of my reaction when Joanna showed me the "finished product" in the mirror. I was SO excited and after already having 2 trials, having one the day before the wedding made me confident that I would feel like my best self on the biggest day of my life and let me tell you, I did. I have never felt so beautiful in my entire life. I have also never seen my mom look so gorgeous and it made me happy that she was so happy! I call Joanna a wizard because she's casually chatting with you, so calm, focused and voila! hands you the mirror and it's truly a natural work of art. The shoot was boudoir so I was a little nervous but Ann Marie made me feel like I was in great hands. I showed her what I had brought to wear. It was a high waisted number so she immediately was asking if I wanted that classic pin-upy look. I did and she got started. Before I go any further I want to explain my ascetic. I have piercings, tattoos and one of those crazy asymmetrical hair cuts with crazy colors all in it. Far from the 'classic' pin-up. I was a little worried that my nontraditional hairstyle might prove to be a roadblock. I had even considered bringing some wigs (my back ups for a classic look). I'm so glad I didn't! My haircut was a non-issue as Ann Marie worked curls throughout my hair. At the end I had this great 1920's fingerwave looking style. She even curled the little tail part of my hair that hangs down from the rest. The whole time she kept checking in to make sure I liked the direction we were going. I felt so GLAM! Then, the makeup. I wanted to go dramatic. Big lips, big eyes, the works. Ann Marie did not disappoint! She did a great job and the products she used felt great going on. When I saw myself at the end I couldn't believe it was me! It was a great experience and solid ego boost. After the shoot was done my makeup still looked great. Ann Marie had even left a little lipstick and a makeup pad in case I needed to touch anything up but I never felt the need. The fake eyelashes she added made my eyes look unreal in the pictures that were taken. It was a great experience and I can't wait to do it all over again.

Before she started, she asked everyone want they wanted done, and made sure you were happy with the way looked before she moved on to the next girl. She stayed until we were about to leave for the church, applying last minute touch ups to anyone that wanted one. Even my photographer stopped at one point to tell my how good my makeup was turning out in the pictures he was taking. He said that it's really hard to find a makeup artist that applies makeup that shows up well in HD pictures, and that Karisa's was some of the best he'd seen. I am SO happy I went with Karisa for my wedding makeup, and wish that I could have her to keep, so that I could have her apply makeup whenever I wanted :o)

When I started looking for make-up artists during Summer 2013, I knew that I wanted someone that would make me feel great and pulled together without making me feel caked with makeup and not myself. I started to get frustrated because I was finding too many artists whose portfolios were not what I was looking for (80's make-up, yikes!) or they charged an arm & a leg (I really didn't want my bridesmaids to have to pay oodles of money). I found Anjelica's ad in Chicago Social and the picture was lovely. After looking through her website and some pictures of her work, I was very hopeful. After receiving a prompt, friendly, straightforward response from her, I was sold. So I used Anjelica for both my engagement pictures and for our wedding and seriously, SHE IS AWESOME. I was so pleased with the way my make-up looked on our wedding day and so were each of my bridesmaids. It was the perfect blend of glowing, but still done up. It looked fresh and natural but stayed on all night! In addition, Anjelica is such a nice person and a calming influence, so she's was extra handy to have during the stress of getting wedding prepared. She really listens to the look that you are going for and interpreted it well for each of us.
