We were waiting for food for around an hour, the staff were miserable and the bar staff were even worse. -Eye rolling and kept disappearing from the bar... they were young and inexperienced. I gave them our birthday cake and paid extra for more food and drinks as I didn't want the toddlers who came to feel left out. Then the fire alarm went off. Manager was so un-interested that we had children who had left their coats and were stood outside freezing, hungry and crying. I only saw around 5 staff members stood outside telling people to call customer service for a refund. (More or less telling people to go home.) We left without singing happy birthday to my daughter, she was so upset and says she never wants to go back. I've emailed customer service to be told I would get a refund on our pre booked food but the money we spent on our card would need to be cleared. Ive sent proof of purchase and 1 week later still no refund. Also the money I paid In cash, I would need to go back into hollywood bowl (get PDSD) and they would give it back. Also they still have our cake if we want it. (What we going to do with a cake now?) And they said sorry. That's all we got was SORRY. That will never make up for anything that happened that day and for anyone else looking to take your child here to celebrate I would avoid it. I was apprehensive on booking it here in the first place as we booked airhop for her last birthday and we could not fault it at all. The memory of my daughters birthday at hollywood bowl and the treatment afterwards will never be forgotten, my daughter has told her class mates and friends at her gymnastics how much hollywood bowl made her sad on her birthday. So now I'm checking my bank for the refund and feel like I got ripped off. Hollywood bowl has gone down hill and you are just a number on their books. Remember that when you go here ‍

It can be expensive on the weekend to bowl but if you fancy a midweek dabble and there's a few of you then it can work out pretty inexpensive. It's always worth booking just in case because even though there's a million lanes, you never know in Cardiff. The bar is nice aswell with quite a modern feel to it. It's totally soulless and overpriced as you'd expect but it does a job if you're waiting for a film in the cinema nearby. It's also got some of the nicest pool tables in Cardiff outside of Riley's. I love going here though and it's got that typical hustle and bustle that you always get in bowling alleys. It's the same kind of background noise and fun atmosphere that you get in a good casino, except it's great for kids and you might just have some money left at the end of the night.

They have the standard security doors that most play centres have but there was no way to connect a child to a parent, and I'm sure the staff there do not have photographic memories. The play area was clean and carpeted throughout and nice and warm although not overly so. Great climbing areas and fast slide which even scared me but the boys found it hilarious. They had a soft ball shooting range which the boys found really loud and frightening at first but once they got used to the noise, they soon disregarded it. We were there for over 3 hours and had a really good time, drinks and snacks were reasonable too, even cheaper then some shops. Staff there are really friendly but suggestion for them would be to get a better security system in place. Lots of parking out front but be careful you don't miss it if coming from the A4 direction as it's hidden next to the Honda garage.

Around the outside of the main play area there are tall seats around so parents can sit there enjoying a tea or coffee and watch the children play. There are lots of snacks hot and cold drinks and things like paninis and sandwiches, I had a cheese and ham panini and it was delicious ! My only grumble came from trying to find some where to park, so if you are able WALK!! I sadly didn't have that option and had quite a stressful 10mins with a screaming child trying to park. Once inside I ordered a coffee and some lunch and found my friends. The menu is simple but nice. I had a panini which was fine and the coffee was really good. The children's menu is perfect and simple. Once we'd revitalised ourselves with refreshments we hit the play area. Most indoor play places I've been to have a soft play and a few toys but this is so much more. The play area is full of great toys, there is a whole kitchen and shop which kept my son entertained on his own for far longer than any other play. This is also closed in with seating around so you can sip coffee and chat with your eyes on your little one. Genius! It's 3.75 for the day and worth every penny if you want to meet friends and chat while your child is entertained.

It could really benefit from a few signposts. Luckily for us we had some half price vouchers as the place is would be quite expensive for a large family. On entry children are assigned a wristband and with a bar coded receipt given to the parent so that a child can't leave or be taken by another parent as they are both connected. This is a pretty good idea as other venues just give you the wristband and you sign in. The venue is huge with lots of different activities for a range of ages. Wasn't happy seeing the snacks and drinks machines as I think the well stocked cafe would have been ample. It was surprisingly packed but we were quite concerned that on a coldish day, the air con was at its highest so we were sat shivering and averse to taking our shoes off. Even running around after the little one for 3 hours didn't help much. Just before lunch Jumping Beans (not exactly sure what the suit portrayed, bear or dog) held a free dance session in the football area for all of the under 4's. This was really cool and a wonderful idea. The cafe menu was reasonably priced but for fussy eaters the option to bring food in would be beneficial. The megabowl is a little bit irritating to get to (if you haven't got a car) but it's definitely worth figuring out a solution to that problem. I can almost guarantee that you will end up having a good time. The great thing about bowling is that you can go in a two, or in a huge group because you can book up lanes next to each other. This bowling alley has everything that you'd expect it to have (you know, shoes, the barriers that come up, the little thing children use (and adults if you want to mess around and you see there's one out - I warn you, they don't help much!)) - the usual. But the service is great. Normally it's surly pre-teens looking like they're carrying the world's woes. It's excellent here. You can also combine your bowling with meal deals, so families can enjoy. Just don't go if you don't like noise...
