Mixed emotions today - I had an urge for a crab sandwich for lunch and Lascares looked inviting, with menu boards outside advertising crab. Went in, asked the very nice staff if they had crab, to which the answer was yes, seated at table for 2. My wife and I waited 20 minutes for a menu, although it was not busy, chose crab sandwiches, waited 10 minutes to be told 'crab is still alive, has not been prepared'. We were offered another choice,so plumped for ploughmans. We were offered a plate of olives, 'on the house' as recompense.
We were sat just inside the open front, as our meal was served, 4 women sat at the table outside (but next to us) and proceeded to chain smoke throughout our meal, the exhalations wafted over us and filled the area, there was no escape, it was quite disgusting. Add to this the awful ambient music track mixed with a busker with a flute clamouring for attention and the scene was complete. I felt sorry for the staff, who were doing their best, but there is a lack of attention to detail that spoils the experience, and this detracted from some quite acceptable food.
I was quite upset about the crab, which was advertised on the menu boards, and if it was fresh in that morning, it should have been cooked and prepared ready for lunch customers. read more
