Los Trojas Cantina is hands down the best Mexican food in McMinnville. Everything we've had there has been consistently very good -- fresh food, great flavor, and fast service. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. The atmosphere really fits the food and gives you authentic Mexico vibes, which makes the experience even better when you're there. It is a little on the pricier side compared to some other Mexican spots around, but it's absolutely worth the extra money for the quality you get. They're also extremely baby and toddler friendly, which makes a huge difference for families. The staff is always very accommodating and patient, and it's a comfortable place to bring kids. Honestly, I'd go as far as saying it's the best Mexican restaurant anywhere in the circle between Murfreesboro, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Manchester. Pretty place BUT the food is overpriced & bland. They absolutely do not listen when you ask for anything specific either. Son requested no peppers, yet tons of peppers on his plate, previous experience was the same, different request, same non listening result. And this time, Nachos were so soggy that I couldn't eat them, neither could my fiance. They were complete mush. Meat was also not seared, no color or flavor. And the steak in my son's alambre was full of gristle. My youngest sons obviously previously frozen burger patty was also gross, this boy LOVES burgers & ate 2 bites, fries were good though but other than a kid, who really goes to a Mexican restaurant for fries? Grandbaby did like her chicken strips & fries though, but again... $113 plus tip & the only one who really ate their food was the 3 year old. It's all currently sitting in my fridge in to go plates & will probably end up going to the dog tomorrow. We did come once before, about 2 weeks ago, & my fiance's food was amazing, mine however was not great & they didn't listen when I asked for the cheese sauce on the side, flavor was just bland. But I thought maybe I just don't like their chimichangas. Benefit of the doubt, right? So we went again last night with the family, and I ordered what he did last time, which was the Texas nachos. I was really put off by the fact that I asked for a couple more tortillas for my premium priced fajitas. When I say premium price, we're talking about 20% more than most all Mexican restaurants. Typically you're given three tortillas and I've never had anyone try to up charge me for three measly tortillas which are mainly made of flower water and salt. Was blend and others mentioned the rice can be better made out of a box. The beans were extremely bland and I have never had fajitas that were also bland. Anyway, the waiter apologized and said he couldn't do anything because the owners require a ticket and for three tortillas they wanted like 250 that I mention they already charge a premium for the fajitas? Well to the owner good luck with your business, but you lost a customer so you might want to take that little "valued customer" off of your receipt because apparently we aren't valued. I am staying at the Hampton Inn directly behind this restaurant. I've been sitting in a nursing home all day taking care of a sick relative. All I wanted was to walk in, sit at the bar, have dinner and a drink. I sat down and the bartender ignored me, I was the only person sitting at the bar. She was ringing out a rag, looked at me and continued doing what she was doing. Something fell behind the bar, she looked at me and didn't even acknowledge my presence. She finally made eye contact and very rudely asked, "What do you need?" I thought, "I don't know, a drink? Some food? A little common courtesy?" I was taken aback, I've been in the restaurant business for 45 years. I was surpised at her tone and attitude. I said, "Nothing, you are rude." I walked out. What a terrible first impression. I left in tears, after the terrible day I'd had a little kindness would have been much appreciated. I will be in McMinnville for several weeks, I will NEVER go back to this restaurant. First off, the Food was fantastic although it's probably the most expensive Mexican restaurant in town. Drinks were pricey and there were no notable specials. A steep $11 for a simple small house marg and $35 for a pitcher. Service was very bad, we went 15 minutes before someone even greeted our table and were rarely checked on throughout our dining experience. they're new so maybe they're still working things out. read more

The best I can say about this place was it was open and seemed to be clean. The staff was not overly friendly and the food was edible. We all tried different offerings and not one of us was happy with our meal. The quesadillas had a trace of cheese, flautas were smothered in a white queso and the rice...I've had better from a box. This new location of Las Trojas in Mac Town is our new favorite. Very clean with a large dining room. Spacious tables and booths. I have been 3 times and each visit has been very good. Service has been quick and friendly. Food is presented very well and it is very tasty. I love the ice cold draft beer. I mean, ICE COLD ! The chips are served warm and are thick enough to have a good crunch while holding the salsa. Their salsa recipe is delicious. On this last visit I ordered the Carnitas Platter and it was delicious and very tender. . There were some fatty pieces but I was able to separate them out (and have more than I could finish.) To me, it just meant that the dish was authentic. I will return as it will be one of my regular stops! read more

Yesterday I had the displeasure of going to Las Trojas Cantina! It was a fairly busy night, so I understand that there's going to be a wait for food BUT the amount of the time we waited was ridiculous! The waitress we had, Miss Jasmine, was great and tried to make sure we were happy while we waited. Our food was coming out one or two plates at a time, by the time half of us were done eating others still had not gotten their order! The food was cold and half of it was incorrect, but we had already waited long enough so we didn't bother getting it fixed. The manager came by to let us know that the kitchen was backed up but, she didn't offer any compensation for our wait and seemed unbothered. This was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant, and I will not be back! The only good thing about this place was the excellent service. read more

The food was disappointing. Although the portions were generous, the carne asada dinner I ordered was overdone. They ask how you want your meat cooked and then give you something else. I have loved Mexican food all my life but when I had to eliminate salt, reduce sodium, eating at most Mexican restaurants became impossible.since it is fresh-mex, I decided to stop in mid-afternoon, when it wasn't busy, to talk with them to see if there were things I'd be able to eat. They were very helpful and happy to work with me. We ended up eating even though it was only 3 pm lol. The fresh corn tortilla chips are hot& unsalted. they could fix grilled chicken, fish, steak, and vegetables without salt-heavy seasoning. I had the fresh guacamole, fixed table side, with as much or little tomato, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, lime as I wanted, was excellent. I had the steak flautas which were superb. My husband had an enchilada & the chili rellenos which looked great, and I had a tiny taste of the cheese sauce on it. Yum yum yum! I perused the menu & see several things I plan to come back for. The absolute worst Mexican food we have ever had! My fiance ordered the "Shrimp chimichangas" the first one she ate or partially ate had ONE piece of shrimp medium in size, and cut up into small pieces, the rest was filled with some kind of sauce which had no flavor and a lot of cut up tomatoes. The second one had maybe two pieces of shrimp and of course the very bland sauce filled with tomatoes. The beans and the rice served were very bland with no flavor. My dinner plate ordered was 4 enchiladas, (1 cheese,1 bean, 1 beef, 1 chicken) with a side of guacamole. The cheese enchilada was ok, the beef was not good,the beef inside was dried out with No flavor! The bean enchilada was as unfavorable as the beans served! The chicken in the enchilada also had NO FLAVOR!!! I did not get the side of guacamole but they charged me for "Deluxe plate". We ordered some dipping cheese sauce which costs and UNBELIEVABLE $7.00 AND WAS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE CHEESE DIP WE HAVE HAD AT OTHER Mexican restaurants in McMinnville!! When we complained to the mgr on duty he only put the price back to a reg enchilada plate! His excuse for the lack of shrimp was that they have a certain amount of shrimp to divide between the chimichangas and they probably didn't divide it evenly!! WTF!! OH we also ordered two reg drinks, (non-alcoholic) at 2.70 each which by the way were not refillable unless you Pay for a refill. Oh and about the price of the cheese dip which we complained about the mgr said that "that's the most expensive cheese around" and offered nothing in the way of discount!! And it was a very small dish of sauce! My total bill was $48.24 not including tip! And none the less I paid it. But we Will Never recommend nor Will we NEVER EVER RETURN TO LAS TROJAS CANTINA AGAIN!! read more
