My 85 year old father had the pleasure of staying at Las Palmas as an interim stay after hip surgery. After 6 months post surgery, Dad was not ready to be home alone.  My family knew of Las Palmas, and was thrilled to learn that they offered assisted care,  in addition to thier independent living services.  My father enjoyed the amenities and the assisted care services that were arranged for  during his stay. Our family had piece of mind knowing that there were staff available around-the-clock to assist Dad if needed. All of the staff, from the front desk, to adminstrstion, were kind and gracious to Dad and our family. We also were appreciative of the safety procedures to keep staff and resident safe during the Covid pandemic. Many struggle with the thought of having a parent go into assisted living. Its normal for your parents to think they can keep living every day in home they currently live in. My mother felt the same way. We took her on a tour of Las Palmas in Laguna Woods on day. We were all impressed with how clean and nice the facilities were. The Sales Manager Jessica was super friendly and helpful with questions we had. My mother liked it so much that we went right back to put a deposit in. We got her moved in right away. Disaster right now ! Las Palmas has been under construction for 2 months and still continuing , head chef left , director left , employees are all leaving because the place is a mess , seniors are feed in a room on the bottom floor and it takes 45 min to get your food once you order , mostly cold once you get it . Activities are low or cancelled , moved around to try and accommodate . Watch your Persona belongings , my mom left her phone on the dining table and one of the workers stole it . Maybe it will get better in a few months once the construction is done , ether off somewhere else right now. Most of the construction is done , facilities are nice , food is still tasteless . My sister and I worked with Jessica (Director of Sales) at Las Palmas regarding a living arrangement for our eighty-six year old Mom. Due to circumstances beyond anybody's control we were sadly unable to place our Mom at Las Palmas but Jessica was absolutely incredible every step of the way. My mother was in Las Palmas for about 8 months. We were planning on moving her to SAGE in Newbury Park but unfortunately she passed before we could get her there. SAGE had wonderful amenities - snacks/drinks available 24/7 where Las Palmas keeps their store open 2 hours per day. SAGE serves Breakfast/lunch/dinner all day...Las Palmas has set hours for each entree and charges $6 to bring it to the room - Sage has no cost. Sage had Concierge so if you wanted to go to the Dr. they would take you. And the overall cost/month at SAGE was cheaper with more benefits. I would never recommend Las Palmas. read more

I went on a tour this week to see the updates with Jessica (she is amazing very caring and knowledgable), I was so surprised to see how beautiful the community has become. I came for a tour a couple years ago and it was a little dark but still suitable. Now, it has a bright modern atmosphere that was still very comfortable and inviting. I feel the bright atmosphere also had something to do with the people who worked there also. The young lady at the front desk was very inviting and so nice as well as the staff that we met on the tour. I have been to many communities and this one definitely stands out. This is the WORST place in the world!!! I wouldn't take my dog there to live!! I went for a job interview and I waited over 45 minutes after the time!! Justine up front was rude, unprofessional, and never once smiled or had any excellent customer service experience!! Beatrice was terrible too! She never came out, and never apologized for any inconvenience of my gas or time!!! I overheard a client say to Justine that she couldn't wait to move out of Las Palmas! Everyone was so rude, and cold! You could tell that the employees really hate their jobs here! Maybe it was God saving me from a company that is really horrible! Thanks for standing me up Beatrice!! My mom stayed at Las Palmas for about a month in spring 2017. Unless you are able to advocate for someone staying there, or the resident can vocally advocate for themselves, I highly recommend AGAINST Las Palmas as an assisted living community. Meghan in Sales was very helpful in getting our mom in and helping us with furniture via phone and email - Really wonderful in a terrible and stressful time. But once inside the facility the experience was quite poor. While the care givers we met were very kind, there were far too few. The promise was with the push of a button my mom would receive care in 10-15 mins. Sometimes my mom would wait for an hour. Also, when visiting her we could smell her and went to inquire about if her weekly shower had happened. They had to look it up and realized it had somehow been missed. But they couldn't explain why. In addition, while we were there their button service had been experiencing difficulties. For residents that can walk to the front desk this is not a big deal. However my mom was transitioning to a wheelchair and she HAD to push the button to do anything like go to the bathroom. My sister and i had to alert the desk her button wasn't working 3 times. That means even though they were aware the system was having difficulty they didn't put anything else in place (maybe a walkie talkie or having someone check on her more regularly) for a very vulnerable resident. Mind you we paid for the services she needed because your cost is based on need. But they didn't live up to the services we were paying for. Also no one in management knew our mom by name. The care givers did. In all the time we'd visit we never once saw a manager in the hallways - not the Exec Director, no Asst Directors, not Sales, no one. I was told I passed the Activities Director once, but she hadn't identified herself and had nothing showing she worked there. One day I needed to drop off a payment check. Front desk reception told me to knock on the door of the Finance person. When I did she was clearly bothered. She told me I should just leave checks in the box. I asked her why we never saw management. Why doors were always closed. She waved this complaint away saying she was doing pay roll. I asked her if she even knew who my mother was. And she looked at me blankly. One positive is that the food seemed to be celebrated by the residents. Apparently there was a new chef and they loved the food. So again if it is someone that can self-advocate and looking for more of a retirement community seems could be OK (hence two stars, not one). But if you need to trust the care of a loved one to a place, and you want them to be known and loved - this is not the place. We now have our mom in a facility in WA state. I am not sure if the regulations are different as we didn't try any place else in CA, but it is night and day. The staff all know our mom. They are invested in her happiness and health. They all know us. It feels like we are a team all working together. We know if we don't come in they have her best interests at heart. If you are reading this, good luck! My husband had a wonderful experience at Las Palmas and was very happy there. The staff were very attentive and caring. They were so supportive. Everyone in charge was so helpful and pleasant, Justine the Executive Director, Pam and Charles in making arrangements, Beatrice the nurse in charge, Alisa the head of Memory Care, Becky and Donna of Activities and Tyler of the business office. The newly renovated facility is just lovely, from the lobby and dining room to the pool and gardens. It is worth a visit and tour to see for yourself. read more

Be very careful if you research this facility, get EVERYTHING in writing, and know your rights. Though the management appeared very friendly and helpful, by the time we left it was clear they hadn't been honest and were focused on money, not care. Just a few details: We asked for a studio, and the salesman told me that none were available, only one-bedrooms. I was shown the one-bedroom they would move my mother into and we accepted it, letting them know it was only for 30 days. I live out of town and wasn't there the day she moved in. A few days later when I went to visit her, that apartment was locked, and she had been put in another apartment, not as nice, a studio. (I later learned from staff that several studios had been available.) When I asked the salesman why they switched her room without telling us, he gave no clear reply. At our initial meeting, the salesman explained the fee structure clearly, and said we would received 80% of the move-in fee refunded, minus $500 when she moved out within 30 days. When I later called to initiate the 80% refund, the salesman said he thought it was only 60% or maybe 40%; then he said he thought perhaps there was only a refund if the resident had died! Then he said he didn't really understand the refunds and that I should talk to the executive director. Yet the salesman was the one who had clearly outlined the refund policy at the sales meeting. In addition, the care is very uneven. There are some wonderful caregivers there. But there's clearly a problem with response. My mother, who can't move by herself, waited between one to three hours at times for someone to respond to the call button. Finally we enabled her to call the front desk with a cell phone when she needed help (the room phone didn't reach to her chair or bed, and management had no solutions). No one explained or took responsibility for the long delays, and at one point a staff person blamed her for using the call button too early in the morning. It seems that there aren't enough staff members, and that some of the staff aren't aware that the residents are vulnerable, both physically and mentally. Repair requests are ignored; I asked several staff members, including the salesman, for the stove to be repaired (it never worked), and no one responded. So there was no way to heat or cook food during her entire stay. Fortunately, I found a nonprofit that advocates for families with long-term care facilities, California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform: http://www.canhr.org. Thanks to them, I found that Las Palmas owed us the refund by law, and once I was able to cite the appropriate regulation, we received the refund. The executive director didn't return my calls or emails until I found this information, so go well-armed if you deal with Las Palmas! read more

After doing a thorough due diligence visit of several Assisted Living Facilities for Seniors, we found Vintage Las Palmas in Laguna Woods. This turned out to be the best decision we could have made for my elderly parents. They have a private apartment and a bunch of things to do. The most important benefit is that they get compassionate care from a very polite staff. The best way to describe this community is to call it a Cruise Ship on Moulton Parkway in Laguna Woods. My mother was a resident at Las Palmas for more than two years. I have mixed feelings about this facility. The food was good, the staff was friendly and there were plenty of activities, but I never got the sense that anyone really cared about my mother. She had dementia so she could not remember the planned activities, but there was no staff person available to remind her or invite her to join. Staff turnover seemed high in key positions, i.e. executive director, medical director. The most distressing thing was that all my mother's heirloom jewelry was stolen from her apartment while she was in a different part of the building. I liked Las Palmas at first but at the end of Mom's stay, I could not recommend it to anyone. Be very careful when choosing an assisted living facility, and be sure to leave all costly jewelry someplace else. read more

Staff including front desk,activities directors , housekeeping, nurses, maintenance and waiters are all very courteous,polite,friendly and dependable. The food is mostly undesirable other than fresh fruit and salad bar items. No matter how many times this has been brought to the attention of the Director nothing ever changed. The chef who has stated he has been in the business a long time and is a French Chef is delusional. He will not accept useful critique. Sad when it's so easy to make healthy also kosher food tasty and still keep costs down. Apparently most of the residents I find aren't very concerned. They either have forgotten the taste of good food, lost their sense of taste or simply are afraid to complain. At least while my parent was a resident it gave him something of great interest for him to do. He was in the restaurant business for over 70 years and worked in what was considered some of the finest in the country. This critique is for my father with love. I was there visiting my grandma on the first floor and overheard one of the nurses, miriam, who is the head nurse, yelling and screaming at an older lady because the lady didn't like getting her medications at midnight. Miriam was yelling at her saying she doesn't have a choice and that she just needs to go to her room and listen to the rules like the rest of the residents. After my family heard this we got my grandma out the next day. Bring your family here if you don't mind their nursing supervisor verbally abusing them. read more
