I really, really love this place. Las Americas is a good name for this place. It is not truly Mexican because it features foods found in Latin and Central America. It's a small hole in the wall kind of place right off of the very busy Nolensville Pike in Nashville. If you aren't careful, you might miss it. However, don't miss it. Food is absolutely delicious. Everything from the chips and salsa to the main entrées are on point. The pico de gallo is real fresh and tasty. Everything is fresh cooked to order. Particularly, I recommend the fresh pupusas. Perfect flavors and not greasy at all. I can't rave enough about it. Boss man raved about his chimichanga with tomatillo sauce. He was so happy he even ate avocado. He doesn't usually eat avocado!! He also tried the fresh beef taco and thought he was tasting stuff he hasn't had since San Diego. As for me, the carnitas was refreshingly good. Pork was cooked beautifully and the combo of rice beans salad and pico was unbeatable. The portions are extremely generous that we both took product home with us. One other Yelp reviewer commented about don't come here unless you bring your appetite. That reviewer was spot on. The staff is super nice. They can speak both English and Spanish. The place has kept very clean and neat. And they also play music that adds to the ambience. On the other TV they even had a rodeo playing! If you don't want to buy bottles of soda or anything like that, I recommend you bring your own bottle of water or whatever beverage you prefer. After this experience, we will be sure to be back. What a great little restaurant tucked away on Nolensville Road! When my party of 3 walked in, we were greeted by the smell of fresh cooking and a beaming waitress. Our waitress was so patient and kind, helping explain the menu to my grandmother. The food came out within a timely manner. The barbacoa was perfectly tender and flavorful. My tortillas de maíz were so fresh and hot, I almost burnt my fingertips. My grandmother had no problems about her pescado frito, either. It was plentiful portions, the kind where a to-go box is necessary. The leftovers heated up nicely, too. For drinks we all got agua de jamaica. So tangy and not too sweet. We've been going to this restaurant for years and it's been amazing the whole years. They are super friendly and when you have any questions they will know the answer. This day I got a carne asada torta it was so amazing their meat is such a good quality. Also I had a taco, the meat was juicy. My boyfriend always gets a carne asada huarache it's always good. They have different types of drinks but we stick with horchata it's always good no matter what. It's a small restaurant but they always have music playing in the background. When you walk in their super friendly. You can seat anywhere in the restaurant and when you're ready to pay they'll give you the check and you pay in the back of the restaurant. Simply Nashville's best, disguised as a dive. Been coming here for years, ever since I discovered they had burritos the size of your forearm for like $3. Since then, the prices have gone up just a little, but they've invested in new fixtures, better menus, etc. They are a true success story of immigrant business being built in America and doing great at it. The market that's attached is really interesting and has some good items to pick up and take home. Their menu is a bit overwhelming, but they have a ton of traditional and authentic Mexican fare that you might not normally get to enjoy. Don't let the appearance fool you. This is a life-changer you just have yet to discover. Honestly, the prices are still so good that for whatever you might pay to feed the family from shitty Taco Bell options, you could invest in a meal here and come out possibly cheaper and way better on quality. I am originally from the Southern California area so full disclosure I am a tougher reviewer on Mexican food then some. Going into Las America's it feels very authentic. The service was quick and super friendly and they can easily pivot between Spanish and English. I ordered a plate with three enchiladas - cheese, chicken and steak. I liked the cheese one the most mainly because it was a different cheese then I am used to and was unique to me. The other two had flavor but the meat wasn't cooked fresh, I could tell it had been in a holding container for a minute. The beans were possibly canned but the rice was decent. With that said I tried a pork and cheese papulsa on the side and it was beyond excellent. Fresh, good portion size and fairly priced. You could easily get full off two. I give it 4 stars only because the service was solid and the pupulsa was amazing. I plan to go back and try other items with a papulsa on the side :) read more

Good variety of Mexican soft drinks and juices, including my favorite, the popular Horchata. Food is fairly traditional and the variety wide. Burritos, soups, beef and seafood. The Menudo was rich and came with the normal accompaniments. The Sunday specials are listed on a board by the open kitchen. Others are listed on the menu and Caldo de Mariscos (Seafood Soup) was listed and I ordered it. A large bowl was delivered, full of seafood with a few carrots and potatoes thrown in for variety. I added a few pinches of the fresh chopped jalapeno and it tasted just right. I enjoyed the people watching and all of the hustle and bustle. I made plans to meet others at Las Americas and drove past it several times until finally seeing it. It's easy to miss. The driveway has a bit of a steep entrance, and it's at a busy part of Nolensville Rd. As soon as I pulled into the parking lot I remembered that I had been here before and had sworn I'd never return. The amazing reviews had been what brought me, and I just didn't feel it came anywhere near living up to the hype. The food was only "I mean, it was ok," said slowly in an unnaturally high-pitched voice. Also, we had to pay for chips and salsa. Weird. This time, I figured, what the hey, I'll give it another shot. We had several moments of awkwardness when we first walked in, as multiple staff standing near the entrance barely glanced at us and looked away. Eventually our server did walk up and greet us with a smile (through her mask) and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. Then she returned with chips and salsa to our table! Wooho-- wait. Make that chips and salsa water. Seriously, it's like they took an almost completely empty bottle of Pace Picante (not actual salsa, I know) and filled it up with water, shook it up, poured it into a bowl and then set it on our table. Guess what, it tasted like water, too. Maybe I'm ignorant of a cultural difference in salsas, but this was a first for me, and it was definitely disappointing. Onto the meals. The portion sizes were ok to good. Not great but acceptable. It seemed to take a long time to get to us, but not too long. Flavor was ok. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. It just didn't seem to have much (enough) seasoning. I'm baffled at the awesome reviews this place has. It was mediocre at best, and this was my second experience being disappointed by the food. I drove to Nolensville Pike, attempting to find authentic mexican food. It happened to be both Taco Tuesday AND Cinco de Mayo. I ordered takeout, and the staff was so friendly. I got a beef soup that was delicious, along with a couple of steak street tacos. The soup was especially flavorful and filling. My friend got the chimichanga and thought it was delicious. This isn't your "standard" Mexican Restaurant, much closer to a Central American Restaurant. Was very interesting to see some of the offerings mirroring Filipino foods (Adobo and Bistik) that I love. The attached grocery carries a great selection of Spanish and Central American foods. First off...had to try the taco's. Love how they use the small, doubled-up soft corn tortillas fresh off the grill. Decided to sample Carnitas, Pollo, and the Al Pastor which was chopped pork with the Adobo sauce...all with some onion and Cilantro garnish. The Pollo was a bit dry so there wasn't much flavor there...disappointing. The Carnitas was really good, moist and flavorful. The Al Pastor was excellent with the adobo flavoring...the favorite of the three. Next was a mixed Pupusas with beans, pork, and cheese. This Pupusas was one of the best I have ever had...what really put it over the top was the vinegar cold slaw and some sauce. The Pescado Frito was a seasoned whole fish fried with rice, some "salad", and tortillas. The fish alone was delicious and could be a meal all in itself. Placing some chunks of the fish on a tortilla with the "salad" provided was boring. HOWEVER...highly recommend getting a side of the vinegar cold slaw and putting the slaw and fish on a tortilla with a little sauce...now that was an exceptional combination! The vinegar slaw really complimented the fish...basically had a delicious fish taco! Bottom line...all of the plates were pretty much "licked clean" and we were well on our way to a lunch coma...LOL Service was great and you can't beat the price for such great food. If you wander into a restaurant and are curious as to what you ought to order, I always believe that you should take a look around and see what locals are getting. I'm talking about the people who have their faces deep in the dishes, busy enjoying them too much to be talking to other people at the table. I'm referring to people who are dining in alone because they prefer the company of that one specific dish. These are not passerby. They are regulars, the are experts. At Las Americas, you'll notice two things in common with these extraordinary dining folks: the large bowls in front of them, and the short round plates. That's because this place is all about two main dishes: the papusas and their fresh daily soup (as indicated by the board near the door). Don't worry about the tacos, tortas, or burritos - they are only a distraction. They look good and are perfectly OK, but they aren't the kind of food that makes you want to shut the rest of the world out. I mean, they used sliced cheese in their quesadillas - not exactly life-changing stuff. BUT. BUT THEIR SOUPS. Every Sunday, there's a mariscos (seafood) soup that is packed with crawfish, clams, shrimp, fish, squid, and baby octopus. It's warm, buttery, and will comfort you if you were chastised at church earlier in the day. Every so often, you'll see a pork pozole as an option. GET IT. It is meat-falling-off-the-bone short ribs stewed in hominy and spices. The caldo de res (beef stew) is one of the best I've ever had (out of trying it at about 40 places). You can live a mediocre life and follow the advice of people who take pictures of their food instead of enjoying it. Or, you can listen to the folks who are busy stuffing their faces with the best papusas in town and trying to order the soup in bulk so that we can literally drown ourselves in it. Honestly. My review could be summed up in 4 words: Burritos - YES! Tacos - NO! That's the majority of what you need to know right there. But what kind of Yelp Elite would I be if that was my review? We stopped in for lunch and I knew I had to get the Burrito Las Americas from the Yelp photos, so order it I did. Unfortunately my dining partner ordered the tacos and let me tell you..he was jealous of me and snuck more bites than he should have. However, my burrito was huge and I felt bad for him. Like any authentic Mexican restaurant, they provided us with a bottle of hot sauces/salsas that were fantastic and the perfect compliment to my burrito. This burrito was heaven. The chicken was seasoned and flavorful, there was cheese on top but just the right amount without being all you could taste in the dish. I'm going to say it was phenomenal. I still dream of that burrito. The tacos just weren't as good. The meat was OK but nothing special. It even lacked the normal grease to meat balance that you want in tacos authenticos. They were boring and needed a A LOT of the hot sauce to make up for it. Excellente! This was my first papusa so I came in green. After our visit a friend who lived in South America assured me that they are legit! She did, however, say that they are larger than your average papusa. The restaurant and market is set back off of Nolensville Road. We grabbed a spot in the lot and entered on the restaurant side. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. The place was about half full and they had two TVs that were playing a telenovela. As soon as we entered we were greeted by a staff member and told to grab a seat wherever. Our waitress came over almost immediately to grab our drink order. She primarily spoke Spanish so it was a perfect chance for me to practice! We ordered two beers and two waters. Once our beers came we put in our food order; 1 mixta, 3 tacos, 1 bean papusa, and a side of rice. Our meal came to a total of $17. It was glorious! I'm slowly working my way down Nolensville road but I feel pretty confident in saying that this place will be one of my favorites! read more

If you haven't noticed, I review a lot of Mexican restaurants. It's an addiction but you can thank me because I know what I'm talking about. As I was perusing Yelp reviews for a good spot, I was encouraged by the fact that Las Americas shares its space with a grocery store. Most ethnic restaurants that do that, in my experience, are amazing. Firstly, I drove a bit out of my way to get here - the opposite direction of my hotel - and then I got caught up in a nasty traffic jam to boot. A couple of times, I considered finding something within a bit more in proximity but I am so glad I stayed the course because this place proved to be worth the effort. I ordered the chicken Enchiladas Las Americas and they might have been the most flavorful I've ever had. They had a definite but delightful "kick" to them and everything tasted fresh and cooked to perfection. The night I was there, they had a fair amount of business but didn't seem busy. I felt as if my order took a bit long but if you factor in two guys in the kitchen and one person waiting and busing tables, it doesn't take much for them to get a little backed up. Again, it was well worth the wait and the service was good. Other reviews recommend you not let the looks of this place deter you and they are correct; if you appreciate an authentic and remarkable Mexican dining experience, this is it. read more

I'll admit, I wasn't born a fan of Mexican cuisine. I think mainly because I grew up in a very very small town where the closest Mexican restaurant was 15-17 miles away and it was super gross. However, once I got to college I realized that it was freaking delicious yet there are still times I feel like an amateur. Visiting Las Americas was one of those occasions. This place is authentic as authentic can get. Nestled next to a little market, this joint is cranking out some tasty eats on the cheap. The menu was a little confusing considering its mostly in Spanish with very vague English descriptions. No fault of theirs, I blame my high school Spanish teacher. I also had never heard of some of the stuff on there, so wasn't really sure what to get at first. FYI: Authentic Mexican is not to be confused with Americanized Mexican cuisine. I tried a pupusa for the first time and it was delish. Like a cornbread pancake stuffed with beans and cheese. I also got a quesadilla, which came out looking exactly like a taco. It is nestled into half restaurant and half market which upholds my theory that Nolensville Rd has the best ethnic restaurants. I ordered a beef cheek taco, beef gordita, and chicken tostada. All 3 items were legit and it was too much food. The taco wasn't needed. It was packed for Saturday lunch and the wife and I were the only white people at the time which is a sign of authentically. Oh man, such great food. I was a bit sketched out at first. Walking into a restaurant through a grocery store does not necessarily bode well. However, I ordered the Carne Asada Taco for $1.49, and a Pollo Quesadilla for $2.29. Both were amazing, however next time, I'm simply ordering the tacos. They were just so good that nothing else could quite compare. My husband loved his burrito and kept saying it was the best he's ever had. Of all the pupuserias I've visited, this is my least favorite. I'm not even sure I would call this a pupuseria actually. It seems a slant more Mexican than Salvadorean. 1) They don't have loroco. 2) My order was wrong so both of my pupusa ended up with chicharron. I'm not the biggest fan of meat in my pupusa. 3) The pupusas seem greasier than that to which I am accustomed. Admittedly, that could be because I don't normally order them with meat. 4) It was super mega busy when I visited on a Friday night. Service was slowwwwww. Not only did the wait staff seem overwhelmed, the kitchen took forever. 5) I ordered guacamole. It didn't come out until my meal was served, aka forever. The crispy plate sized tortillas they serve with it are good, but the guacamole was far from the best I've had. On a positive note, they do serve beer and the prices are ridiculously cheap. Two pupusa, two negra modelo, and guacamole only set me back $13. That is a steal and I could barely eat half of it all. If you are looking for pupusas, I think there are better options in town. If you live nearby, have an hour to kill, and are looking for a cheap meal, this might be an okay choice. read more

This is our 2nd time here, 2nd review. Wow I may be getting addicted to this Salvadorian food. There is somebody's grandma cooking in the kitchen. Making everything from scratch. The guacamole was creamy & chunky. I had the ceviche camaron which only needs one of the 3 sauces that is available, I ask for the hot sauce which my palate screams for. The Refried beans topped with the right kind of cheese. My husband is developing s healthy respect for their hearty plate of enchiladas. We ordered a dozen of their vegetarian bean & cheese tamales. Everything is so good, but I love the beef tostadas. The tacos are also really good as are the burritos. My mouth is watering thinking about a big plate of food right now.
