The place is very open, but not overly loud, except when it is very full. Nice, long bar. Love the bar staff here. This night I sat at a table, so got to experience from another perspective. The food is a mix of Mexican street food and Tex-Mex fusion. It is a mix of chips & Dips, Bocaditos (appetizers and sides), Cokctails, Tacos, and salads. There is also an extensive list of alchol choices. This night two friends grabbed the chicken taquitos and I grabbed the stuffed poblano pepper. The taquitos are the better of the two, if you ask me, as the poblano mole is a bit salty for my tastes (but otherwise good). Service was great. Mario was prompt and took care of our needs nicely. My girlfriend and I went to Bakersfield for dinner prior to a show at Ryman. The service was thankfully quick (we had a reservation for a party of 2) on a Saturday night. Inside the restaurant it was very loud (music) and hard to hear even when you're trying to lean in and pay attention. We ordered the "dinner for 2" that's $49 at the time. We agreed that most of the food felt warm and dry. When it comes to the tacos, we felt that some of the protein/meats were dry (and again was warm and on the soggier side.) My friend recommended this place before going to an event at Nissan. She said the chips were great. And that they were! Plus they had great options for her (a veggi/pescetarian). We, of course, got the chips and guac because they WERE great. Perfect thickness of the chips provided just the right crunch! And the guac had amazing flavors (only note would be to mash up the avocado a bit more as the chunks were huge). She got the fish tacos and I quote, they were "so good". Upon being seated, our server came over and gave us a run down of the menu. He was such a great server, I wish I got his name so I could have given him out a shout-out. Super friendly and outgoing. Really help make the experience for us. The inside of the restaurant is also so cute. I ordered the Dolly salad and it was sooo yummy! I wanted to immediately go home and make this recipe. This was hands-down, the best Caesar salad that I've ever had. Their tacos were also bomb. We both ended up ordering more food after we realized how delicious it was. I've stopped here many times when I'm in the area for events. It's just off Broadway and you can walk to everything you need easily. Everything I've had (mostly tacos) here has been great and prices aren't ridiculously high like most downtown places. Everything comes out really quick so that's great when you gotta go fast. We wanted something quick, nothing fancy and didn't really want to pig out. Our concierge recommended Bakersfield. We walked quite a ways from our hotel when I asked my husband how much farther. He looked at me and said that they had given me the directions. He knows better than that - the single worst fight we have had in 35 years was because of my inability to read maps. (Thank heavens for waze but even that I can mess up) Once he looked up the address, it was super easy to find. It was 7 pm on Friday and the restaurant was busy but really not too bad. There were plenty of open tables. But, alas, the tables were only for reservations. For speed, we decided to just eat at the bar. We still had the full menu, the bartender was right on top of things and we met a couple of young couples who were our kids ages. They shared pictures of their little ones while we shared grandbaby pics. It was a lot more fun than we would have had at a table by ourselves. I ordered a pineapple margarita with a sugar rim. It was great and it was strong. I also ordered the queso (though I meant to order short rib queso) and an al pastor taco. My husband had a modello and one fish and one shrimp taco. We weren't extremely hungry but we didn't order quite enough. All three of our tacos were good but the queso was difficult to eat - it wasn't the creamy, dippable consistency that we are used to. We pretty much had to cut the cheese with the provided spoon and then lay the cheese on top of the chip. I did say we left a little hungry but we didn't finish the queso, it was just too hard to eat. When we were leaving, I looked around and still saw quite a few empty tables. The bar worked out well for us but it wouldn't have worked for a group. I'd like to come back for another pineapple margarita - maybe during our next year's weekend in Nashville. read more
