But then I found Tecolotes: dark, little place on Calle Sueca which has only just opened its doors and just like many times before I got my hopes up. The decor is simple and the space is intimate and the menu surprising. Yes, there are the usual Fajitas, Burritos and Tacos but also more intriguing empanadilla and mouth-watering salads. I went for the spiciest burrito on the menu in the mind-set that the Spanish don't "do" spice... boy was I wrong. The food was not only stellar but there was spice, clever spice, which allowed you to taste all the seasonings and meat before an explosion of hot spice making it a thoroughly addictive meal. Thank God for the constant supply of Coronitas! The staff were great, friendly, helpful and offering us shots of Tequila all night! I totally recommend this unpretentious, un-gimmicky eatery for anyone who is craving a taste of Mexico. 10/10!
