Great prices and *excellent variety* of plants. Larry's also has a wonderful selection of more "collectible" (read: rare) house plants at the best prices I can find. I LOVE the fact that I can find succulents (and others) in 2" pots. That means I can give a plant a go, and if it's a drama queen needing more attention than I will give it, I'm not out much money if it un-alive's itself due to my neglect. Their clematis and hellebores come in so many varieties. And the alocasia plants were plentiful! I was in heaven selecting plants to bring home. I come here an unhealthy amount of times. My friends and I reward ourselves with a plant every time we accomplish a task. They have an amazing selection from plants and especially hard to find ones. If you've been bitten by the plant bug... be warned that this place is addictive. My house is full of their plants and their prices keep us coming back. I came here today to look for some flowers for my garden, and I honestly wasn't very impressed. After reading the reviews, I felt that I had to check the place out. It was big but not any bigger than other big nurseries I've seen. The prices weren't competitive, and honestly couldn't find prices on Inpatients, begonias, or other flowers that I couldn't find elsewhere. I feel that there are better options in my neck of the woods, in Blue Springs and the Lee's Summit area. read more

First time visit Larry's and I brought 3 plants home. This place was recommended by my colleague, she mentioned the fair price for plants in this place because so far I only bought plants at local businesses in downtown. I am new to the houseplants and not knowing much, so this place really makes a great experience for my plant shopping in terms of the good value plants I can get. However, I would say you need to know what you are looking for, because there's no care tips for each plant they sale. Also, not all the plants in their nursery look pretty. ( I used to get the close to flawless plants in the the local business) I need to take time to pick the one. And I also found spider mites's web on one of the plant living in a hanging pot. ( probably haven't been checked for a long while) Still they have so much to offer, they also have lots of special kinds. And I really can't complain the price. I really truly wanted to like Larry's, but my last two experiences just left me disappointed. First- most plants at Larry's are not labeled, which is hard, especially for a new gardener who is trying to decide which plants are best for shade, sun, etc. Secondly- the customer service here is lacking. I don't know if everyone one I talked to was in the middle of doing something else or I just caught everyone on an off day but none of my questions were answered with enthusiasm. Lastly- I brought in a tree that had been propagated and went to repot it at my home. The tree came with no identification, and nothing on it besides the price. The tree when we went to repot it had plastic material that was wrapped around it so tightly, that it looked as if it was cutting into the tree. So we undid it, and gave it new stakes to help it grow. The tree then died shortly and I got in contact with Larry's. After some back and forth talking he agreed to give me a refund but not after briefly blaming me for not knowing that the tree was propagated. When I showed him the tree he held my dead tree, looked at it, snapped it in two over his knee and then handed it off for the trash. It was a little aggressive for my liking.. Honestly, Larry's has some cool plants and a large variety. If you're a well known gardener, this may be your place. But if you're looking for advice.. you might want to look elseware. read more

I don't understand why Larry's doesn't have a solid 5 stars. It is a 5-star establishment and one of my favorite places in KC. Even when I don't need anything, I love walking around and inevitably find a new plant. They're always getting in new plants, so no week is the same. Every plant I've bought from monsteras to prayer plants to herbs to succulents to ajuga is thriving-- healthier and similar price or often cheaper than anywhere else. And massive selection! Some super rare, collectors plants too if you're into that. read more

I have been to Larry's a few times and have had ok shopping experiences I suppose. Yesterday I went there, and when I left I went out to the parking lot to see a Larry's employee treating a couple very rudely (he claimed it was his business, but I don't know if it was the owner or not as I have thought "Larry" was older than this jerk). He didn't like that they were sitting in their car with it running in a "No parking" area. It looked like they were just waiting for a spot to open as it was full at the time. A lady got out of the car and started walking towards Larry's and he came out and totally went off on her! This guy was really out of line, and frankly I was embarrassed for him. He was obviously having a bad day and took it out on these people. I definitely won't be going back. There are a lot of great nurseries in KC. There's no reason to go to one where you might get treated horribly. Larry's should find someone with a better attitude. This guy is costing them business. read more

As far as nurseries go, Larry's really is about as good as you can get. My first visit here was with my grandmother last spring on her quest to find some perfect low light potting flowers for her under-eave beds. As I like to peruse nurseries, I happily went along to see all the pretty flowers. Whoa, was I blown away. Hidden just off of the Highway in Riverside, this place is fantastic! When I walked in I could not believe the size and selection of all of the plants. Now I completely realize that all nurseries are brimming with selection in April, but I saw plants I have never even heard of before. The flora was most abundant. In the back are row after row of even more plants, a virtual labyrinth of flowers, trees, shrubs, topiaries, and my favorite, a tropical house. I'm not sure how anyone really comes here without buying something. Thankfully my grandmother was purchasing a gardens worth so I was able to get my "buying sensation" from her purchase (I live in a loft without space for a whole garden). The staff is very helpful and know what everything is...for the most part. I saw them having to check the tags on some of these plants, but that is excusable when you have such a huge selection. I actually stopped by here once during the colder months too. They had most of the back closed but still had a selection in the main building. Oh, I have to note the giant plants they have too. The kid in me really loves seeing things that are bigger than me. Especially things that in my mind's eye just should not be. I can't wait for spring so I can go and lookey-loo around again! read more

I love this place, and look forward to its opening every spring. When I go, I always buy more than I expected to, and it's always a delight. The only reason I don't give five stars is that, unfortunately, I have found that there are a couple employees who are not, in fact, very friendly--to the point of almost being rude. It intimidates me, and as a result, sometimes I leave with a few less purchases than otherwise. It's hard for me to understand how anyone with such a fantastic job could ever be crabby, but I suppose it's the customers who get on their nerves now and then. read more

Bad experience today, near end of season. Normally, nice people good selection, fair prices. I drove by to see if they were still open. Doors were wide open, plants outside on special sale. I was looking for a young, inexpensive tropical palm or bananna tree that I did not have at home already. I found one in the normal area as other areas were blocked off. They had probably 30 of them. I went to pay for it. The guy said "I can not sell you that plant!! I said, "I guess I am missing something. You are open, you do have plants for sale, but you will no sell me this little plant". He said, "No, you see I can probably buy that plant for $2.00. However, I can propigate that plant , save the money and get more plants from that plant. That is how we keep our expenses down." I was in disbelief. I asked, "Are you the owner?" He was and I was in disbelief. How can anyone be so rude to a customer and not sell them a plant he said he could buy for $2.00? I was dressed up up and going to a funeral reception. I did not say or do anything that could be considered anything but polite. I can not support any person like this with my business. What would it have hurt to sell me the plant? The owner took the plant back, pulled a couple of dead leaves off the bottom and put it back like it was his little baby. Wow. read more
