After rereading what I wrote, I did want to correct on thing. Unfortunately, the Malaysian place next door has closed. That being said, because Larry's has such easygoing staff, it didn't take much for us to be able to bring in our own food. Really enjoyed myself here the other day, seems like a place with a lot of regulars as they were pretty busy even on a weeknight, last Tuesday. The crowd is on the older side, 30+, which I liked because of how young and bougie it was at Trade. The bartender was very cute also, which is always a nice treat! It is so hard to know how to sum up Larry's Lounge. It has a great patio, and giant floor to ceiling windows, and is located on the corner of 18th and T, so it is great for people watching, including people you've seen around for years, or decades, in AdMo, Kalorama, or Dupont Circle. Both the patio and indoors are full of friendly puppies. They serve no food (except free popcorn if you ask), so dogs are allowed under DC "health" regs. There are a lot of regulars, 60/40 gay/straight, often older, and often neighborhood people. Mosquitos are a big problem on the patio - it sits over some drainage tunnels. Crazy people, alcoholics, a special needs gal trying to sell costume jewelry, occasional homeless people and pick pockets, and groups of 3 and 4 who go to the tiny bathroom together (to imbibe things not on the menu?) are common. The staff are hit or miss, some seem overworked at this, their second job, and have off days when frazzled; they are more or less friendly, and unlike other gay-oriented establishments, not hired for their looks. The wifi is free; the prices are reasonable; the sound track is good. Next door a straight bar has food; across the street is a high end Mexican restaurant with parking. read more

Stopped in after I had dinner next door and thought this could my place to stop by after a long day at work. I ask the bald bartender for a drink when I sat down at the bar and he said I would need to wait since the bartender was out on a smoke break. I sat there for a couple of minutes and then the bartender returned and he was very nice and pleasant to me and got me my drink. I sat at the bar and enjoyed my drink and the bald bartender or bar back I guess since he did not want to get me my drink was talking about all the people that were sitting outside and not saying nice things about them that is all I am going to say. Lastly if this is the way a bar back talks about the customers this will not be the place I am going to stop after a long day work. I can stop by next door were I had dinner or find another place to go after a long day at work. read more

After a late night on Dupont Circle we wandered over to this little hole in the wall. It sounds shady...and kinda is, but for the most part I was pleasantly surprised. I was able to get two drinks at a reasonable price and the drinks (mixed) were STRONG. Not like the watered down version I pay for everywhere else. We sat down to get out of the cold and look at the game plan for the rest of the night (aka- how to get home safely). Nice little place! They had stopped serving food because it was too late but otherwise it was a warm little place to stumble upon. Interior is lacking somewhat, it has a crummy guys lounge feel to it, not the preppy hipster DC I'm accustomed too. Great for happy hour... no dancing though! read more

Larry's Lounge is a good mix of cafe and bar: you can get good drinks here, including, but it's also quiet enough for conversations or even reading/studying. A tip -- Larry's has a basement room that's perfect for small-ish events. Call ahead! read more

Nothing good on my visit here. Bartenders were rude and creepy. Drinks were too strong, we couldn't finish them.

We were staying at the Hilton but looking for something with real character and a neighborhood feel: FOUND IT!! Great staff, good prices on beer and wine, and delicious food--which they were grilling when we walked up. Ditch your hotel or those trendy DC bars and head to Larry's. After the obligatory trip to a Georgetown bar, we headed back to Larry's for late night drinks. We loved it---and all the great people we met there. read more

Decent drinks and just an overall chill spot.

After spending my Friday evening at a bar across the street that had an early liquor license and kicked everyone out by 12:30, the group I was with wasn't ready to end our night. We popped into Larry's across the street and snagged a window seat. Easy to drink rails and traditional beer standbys got us through the night. The window let us watch Admo and Dupont stragglers and top 40 and 90's classics aided to the bar atmosphere, which leant itself to fun and lively conversation. The bartender was extremely attentive. As he took a break to smoke a cigarette he noticed our drinks were low, motioned through the window to see if we wanted a refill and after we said said, quickly returned and brought us another round. read more

One of the bartenders looked at me from head to toe and went to back to sip water while I was in line to order a drink. He never came back until I left the line to give up on my drink. read more

This neighborhood bar is located just outside the DuPont hustle'n'bustle. Parking near the establishment is never a problem (so far) and the area is nice and quiet. The bar is warm and friendly with a great staff and great prices and specials. Larry's also have a nice outside area. read more

I was here last night and had one of the best Tuesday nights ever. The bartender made me awesome drinks and entertained my ridiculous drink requests. The crowd was a mix of gay and straight but everyone was friendly and social. The atmosphere is laid back and not pretentious at all. LOVE this place... especially because they played Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas." And... no joke.. Santa Claus made an appearance. GREAT PLACE! read more

This place has always been a great neighborhood watering hole. Quiet little place on the corner with big sunny windows and an airy outdoor patio surrounded by flower boxes. My favorite place for meeting up with friends after work. The owners are personable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the rotating beer special means there's always something new to try. And lately Ron's added food items - not lackluster bar food, but pretty much as good as you can get without a kitchen. The chicken salad , for instance, is made with chicken breasts he grills outside on the patio, and serves on a bed of fresh salad he tosses up himself. Ya oughta go! read more

The place used to have a reputation for welcoming everybody, but the new management seems to want to change that. As others have commented, this place is laid-back and friendly...except for the manager, who seems to have a chip on his shoulder and is on some kind of power trip. I am a "mature" adult male who was ejected from the place, along with friends, because we sent a drink back that had been prepared wrong. We were stunned at the manager's attitude and demeanor. I'll stay away from now on and I'll discourage others from patronizing the place. There are lots of places to get a drink in Dupont. read more

A big thank you goes out to Ron who owns Larry's Lounge in Washington DC. We live in North Carolina and we wanted to get married in DC. We looked at numerous places to have a same sex wedding and although same sex marriages are legal in DC not many places are willing to host a same sex wedding. Ron recently opened up Larry's Lounge, on a National Holiday before business hours, so we could get married there. Ron did not hesitate to help and he even took the time to send us photos so we'd know what to expect. He made us feel welcome long before we got there. When we arrived Ron had purchased some things for decoration for our ceremony. That sure meant a lot to us. We brought our own music, cake, family and friends and Ron made us all feel right at home. He opened his door and his heart, to out of town strangers, to help make our day come together. We laughed several times asking ourselves "who gets married in a bar?" Now we can say "we did!" We will always be grateful to Ron and Larry's Lounge. Thanks for everything Ron! read more

Larry's Lounge is a great establishment! There is a mixed crowd, met some very interesting locals. The bar tenders are friendly and attentive. Love this bar. Used to live around the corner and stop in for a G&T now and again. I've recently moved to Boston and was back in town two weekends ago. I walked in and felt right at home!!!
