Everyone is welcome at Larry's. We have always enjoyed our cheap drinks here. Absolut is $4.50, so you can't go wrong. Although we did leave our change on the bar a tad too long and it was gone....hmmm? A $9 tip on an $11 bill? I think not. eeh, this neighborhood-y place needs to evolve with the neighborhood. I came with some friends on a rainy saturday so that may have dampened the bar's mood. It was mostly empty and smelled weird. Over all the whole look of the place seems a little lost back in the late 80s or early 90s. A rehab would do wonders! They were playing Black Eyes Peas and other dance music, but there was no place to really dance. Some good loungy music would be more appropriate. I bet if I came back on a sunny afternoon or balmy night I would have a much better experience. The bartender was cool anyway... read more

Yes yes yes! I somehow find myself in Steve's Bar Room whenever I happy hour. Their Long Island 'green'-tea is to die for. Now if only the price wasn't so high. The staff is always pleasant and chatty, and the atmosphere is always lowkey--but not depressingly so--and conducive for conversations around the table. Gay or straight, this is one of the better bar scenes in the Dupont area. Its totally laid back and the patrons AND staff are fantastic. Shout out to my boy Dave behind the bar. I had a great night in here during SnowPacolypse 2010. After dodging snowballs in Malcom X park I need a warm up and you can hold the hot chocolate. I hit up Tryst got sloppy enough to feel like taking a walk down 18th and ended up here. We ordered some thai which was delivered hot and fresh to the bar and the drinks were AMAZING. Larry's is a nice neighborhood bar with a diverse crowd, good bartender, reasonable prices, and good vibe. I do not go to Larry's often and I always wonder why not when I do return. The patio is great and their happy hour prices are rock-bottom. They also welcome dogs. Larry's is a great place to hang with friends or meet new ones. read more

This is place is great for happy hour! I got through the door for the first time because I had a Belly bite for two rum punches, which were not watered down, for sure! Their menu is tiny- appetizers only, from what I gathered, but their drinks are soooo cheap comparing to most of the bars in DC. Good place for happy hour. They have $5 draft beers, $3 bottle beers, and their white/red. My favorite is their outdoor patio / porch where you can do some serious people-watching right on the corner of 18th and T St. They also have "bar bites", of which I tried their Mozzarella sticks (yes, brings me back to middle school again ..before the school lunch reforms happened) and their Philly Cheese Steak buns - soft bread and inside bursts with cheese and steak, although I could have used a bit more steak. Strong drinks and great prices but the staff is the worst. They spend more time socializing and ignoring customers than any other bar I've been to in DC. They forget drink orders and don't even acknowledge some customers. I had issues myself and had been there about 30 minutes when I watched a group of 5 walk in and wait to order at the bar (which just had me and my friend sitting there) before giving up and walking out. I can only imagine the level of inattention that would exist if they had actually been busy. read more

By far one of the friendliest gay bars I've ever been to! Either that or they were just being nice because my roomie works here ;-) Convenient location right where Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan collide. Very nice outside patio which looks like it'd be nice for watching the city go by. The drinks were strong and competitively priced which is always a good thing. I was staying in the neighborhood while in DC for a conference and stumbled across Larry's Lounge while taking a walk - and I'm glad I did! The people there were very nice and fun to talk to. The place I stayed in was through airbnb and didn't have a TV so it was nice to spend the evening watching Survivor with one of the other patrons. Next time I'm visiting DC, I'm going to have to stay near by so I can visit again. read more

Amazing, CHEAP drinks at one of the few gay bars in dc that's still primarily gay. The history of this place goes way back. Love coming here to meet friends and catch up. The staff is great. I reviewed this place before, but this place is dog friendly: on the patio and inside, I guess that's why popcorn is only served. It's great until a group holds a birthday party for a dog. It's still cool. If one of the owners recognizes your dog, the dog will get a treat. [Full Disclosure: I know the owners, but only after I was a customer for at least a year. There is drama, but that's because they are now friends.] Bring your dogs here, but keep them controlled: unleashed is OK, unless your dogs can't handle it. read more

Larry's is a great dive bar. Sarah, Brett, Redian are all wonderful. They always find a way to be super welcoming even when it's busy there. Often times it can be a bit cramped because they attract locals and LGBT travelers alike. It's not a fancy bar by any means but it's one of those local watering holes that just really likes to be what it is. If you want a place with crazy fancy cocktails the bar team there can make them but it's not that type of bar. Know where your going before going there and simply enjoy your night with your friends and family behind the bar. read more

I went here last Friday while I was waiting on my friends to go to Lauriol Plaza across the street. While here, the bartenders were so nice and friendly, and the other patrons (some clearly regulars) were friendly as well. I've seen this place and heard about it before, but I'll definitely head back. I didn't try their specialty rum punch, but my friend who got it said it was great, so I'll be back to try that. It was also a neat place, and usually, I associate low happy hour prices (which they had in spades) with a dirty dive. This was not like that at all. The only potential downside is it might get crowded if it's later than 6:30 or so when you get there and the patio isn't open. It was freezing out, so the patio was rightfully closed, but it started getting crowded around the time I left. read more

My favorite neighborhood bar in dc. They welcome everyone. It's a gay bar that you can bring your straight friends to. Friendly and cute bartenders. Hospitable and fun owners who are always present. Regulars who strike up conversation with anyone who walks in. Decent drink specials. And you can't beat the outdoor patio. Drinking out there with the bartenders taking orders and bringing drinks on a nice summer day while getting to people watch on one of the best street corners in D.C. is just the best. I really wanted to love this bar it is cute and allows dogs. My friends and I went on a Monday night. It took forever to get more drinks and while the server was nice, he was busy because he doubled as the bartender and was the only one or sometimes he was busy socializing with the other patrons that he knew. I was in town from new york and we decided to stop in while we waited for our table at the restaurant across the street. Totally a last minute option. It was a great surprise! We were there a Saturday night and Adam, the bartender, was AMAZINGLY accommodating. We ordered sangria, but they didn't have any. However, he offered to make us his version of it, it was PHENOMENAL! My friend and I went here for a happy hour hangout on a Thursday and it was absolutely excellent. The happy hour deals are amazing and on the cheap side (which is always a good thing.) The bartender was super friendly along with everyone else hanging out. The outside patio was roomy with a fan that blasted a mist (we went during the crazy hot 90+ days) and while it was nice with umbrellas, we moved indoors. The inside is tiny - I did see stairs leading downstairs but I didn't venture down there and have no idea if you can. While food is not served here, the bartender was kind enough to recommend places that deliver to us and even placed the order for us too! Overall, we had such a great time. You really couldn't ask for a better, more chill with a cheap happy hour place to hang out. We will definitely be back! read more

This is a great neighborhood bar, just off Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. There's a great outdoor patio and the happy hour specials are really, really good ($3 rails, $3.5 draft special, etc). There are two very good things about Larry's. One: patio. It's a great place to sit and watch the sidewalk traffic stroll by. Two: appetizers from Straits of Malaya right next door.
