eeh, this neighborhood-y place needs to evolve with the neighborhood. I came with some friends on a rainy saturday so that may have dampened the bar's mood. It was mostly empty and smelled weird. Over all the whole look of the place seems a little lost back in the late 80s or early 90s. A rehab would do wonders! They were playing Black Eyes Peas and other dance music, but there was no place to really dance. Some good loungy music would be more appropriate. I bet if I came back on a sunny afternoon or balmy night I would have a much better experience. The bartender was cool anyway... read more

Such a welcoming community - got a hug as soon as we walked in the door. Larry's is an iconic DuPont/18th St spot and makes everyone feel at home! read more

Larry's Lounge is my favorite bar to grab a quick drink! The owner, Ron, can be found bopping around making recommendations and chatting with the customers. I always get the $5 punch! You only need two (probably one) and you're feeling buzzed. Definitely recommend trying it out! read more

Yes yes yes! I somehow find myself in Steve's Bar Room whenever I happy hour. Their Long Island 'green'-tea is to die for. Now if only the price wasn't so high. The staff is always pleasant and chatty, and the atmosphere is always lowkey--but not depressingly so--and conducive for conversations around the table. And I so enjoy sipping a good drink on the patio in summer while watching the crowd across the street bottleneck at the door of Lauriol Plaza. read more

Gay or straight, this is one of the better bar scenes in the Dupont area. Its totally laid back and the patrons AND staff are fantastic. Shout out to my boy Dave behind the bar. I had a great night in here during SnowPacolypse 2010. After dodging snowballs in Malcom X park I need a warm up and you can hold the hot chocolate. I hit up Tryst got sloppy enough to feel like taking a walk down 18th and ended up here. We ordered some thai which was delivered hot and fresh to the bar and the drinks were AMAZING. I really should have started here! Dave mixed me up anything I wanted and everything was made with love. Definitely kept me warm through the cold nights of SnowTorious BIG. read more

Larry's is a nice neighborhood bar with a diverse crowd, good bartender, reasonable prices, and good vibe. I do not go to Larry's often and I always wonder why not when I do return. The patio is great and their happy hour prices are rock-bottom. They also welcome dogs. Larry's is a great place to hang with friends or meet new ones. read more

One of my favorite neighborhood bars. Drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is very low key. Great place to grab a quick drink with a friend. Not loud at all, so it's also a great place to have a conversation. read more

Came here with a friend during DC pride weekend. - Corner bar with a nice, chill vibe. - A bit of an older demographic. - Table service, friendly staff. - Indoor seating (ground level and lower level) and front patio. - Floor-to-ceiling, wrap-around windows - good spot for people watching. - Water dispensers. - Free Wi-Fi, and we were able to charge our phones with their outlets. I'm a fan. read more

This is place is great for happy hour! I got through the door for the first time because I had a Belly bite for two rum punches, which were not watered down, for sure! Their menu is tiny- appetizers only, from what I gathered, but their drinks are soooo cheap comparing to most of the bars in DC. Oh, did I mention that they are just a few blocks around the Dupont Circle? Yeah, I will be back for Happy Hour. read more

Good place for happy hour. They have $5 draft beers, $3 bottle beers, and their white/red. My favorite is their outdoor patio / porch where you can do some serious people-watching right on the corner of 18th and T St. They also have "bar bites", of which I tried their Mozzarella sticks (yes, brings me back to middle school again ..before the school lunch reforms happened) and their Philly Cheese Steak buns - soft bread and inside bursts with cheese and steak, although I could have used a bit more steak. Best thing is their sweet potato tots (!!) with an aioli sauce. read more

I always feel welcome and have a great time at Larry's. I love the laidback vibe. The outdoor patio is on a cozy corner but is still busy enough for some people watching. The bartenders are great and you can't beat the $5 daily vodka specials. read more

By far one of the friendliest gay bars I've ever been to! Either that or they were just being nice because my roomie works here ;-) Convenient location right where Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan collide. Very nice outside patio which looks like it'd be nice for watching the city go by. The drinks were strong and competitively priced which is always a good thing. Didn't get to try any of the food, will have to go back for that. Plan to try out that and hopefully the patio the next time I return. read more

This is my favorite bar. The people are friendly and I love the bartenders. Justin is my favorite but Ms. Bree is nice too. There is one other bartender I like but I don't know his name. The service is excellent here. read more

Cheap and chill and the best was to describe this place. Not cheap like gross, but for Dupont and DC as a whole, the menu is cheap, which is a nice relief for many in attendance. read more

Strong drinks and great prices but the staff is the worst. They spend more time socializing and ignoring customers than any other bar I've been to in DC. They forget drink orders and don't even acknowledge some customers. I had issues myself and had been there about 30 minutes when I watched a group of 5 walk in and wait to order at the bar (which just had me and my friend sitting there) before giving up and walking out. I can only imagine the level of inattention that would exist if they had actually been busy. read more

I was staying in the neighborhood while in DC for a conference and stumbled across Larry's Lounge while taking a walk - and I'm glad I did! The people there were very nice and fun to talk to. The place I stayed in was through airbnb and didn't have a TV so it was nice to spend the evening watching Survivor with one of the other patrons. Next time I'm visiting DC, I'm going to have to stay near by so I can visit again. read more

Maybe I should have went somewhere else, was under the impression from reviews that everyone was welcomed and have been wanting to come here for months since it is right by my house. To my knowledge on weekends they close at midnight. Came around 10:50p for one drink. Was told that outside closed at 11 and the only way I could have a drink was to sit at one of the three tables inside which I would have to invite myself to a table and ask if I could join them since the three tables were full...obviously since I didnt want to intrude on someone else's table, I left read more

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL & WELCOMING PLACE. Honestly a must stop place if you are getting into D.C. & need a place to sit and get your bearings . Also Gunther is an absolute delight andp lovely. They also have Netflix. read more

Amazing, CHEAP drinks at one of the few gay bars in dc that's still primarily gay. The history of this place goes way back. Love coming here to meet friends and catch up. The staff is great. It's a bit small and definitely not for groups unless you go out on the patio but that's part of the charm in my opinion. read more

I reviewed this place before, but this place is dog friendly: on the patio and inside, I guess that's why popcorn is only served. It's great until a group holds a birthday party for a dog. It's still cool. If one of the owners recognizes your dog, the dog will get a treat. [Full Disclosure: I know the owners, but only after I was a customer for at least a year. There is drama, but that's because they are now friends.] Bring your dogs here, but keep them controlled: unleashed is OK, unless your dogs can't handle it. read more

Came here for drinks after having dinner at Lauriol Plaza across the street. Tuesday night deals were 5$ kettle one drinks. The bartenders also hooked us up with free eggnog shots which were really good. Small place but fun. read more

$30 for two French martinis? I don't ever remember this place being so expensive. Nice secluded gay bar but the price tag is not worth it no matter how much of an effect that one class will do to you. read more

Came here in the late afternoon on Sunday. Pros: cheap ($4-5) and quality beers, friendly bartender. Outdoor patio with good people watching. Laid-back. Cons: out-of-place carpeting and strange decor, plus the bro lobbyists debating way too loudly about whether to accept the "fulfilling" $900K job or slug it out for $3m at a corporate firm. read more

I love Larry's Lounge. Seriously, it is a DC institution in a nobody knows about it kind of way. Happy hour is super cheap and the outside is fabulous. read more

I went here last Friday while I was waiting on my friends to go to Lauriol Plaza across the street. While here, the bartenders were so nice and friendly, and the other patrons (some clearly regulars) were friendly as well. I've seen this place and heard about it before, but I'll definitely head back. I didn't try their specialty rum punch, but my friend who got it said it was great, so I'll be back to try that. It was also a neat place, and usually, I associate low happy hour prices (which they had in spades) with a dirty dive. This was not like that at all. The only potential downside is it might get crowded if it's later than 6:30 or so when you get there and the patio isn't open. It was freezing out, so the patio was rightfully closed, but it started getting crowded around the time I left. read more

Great neighborhood pub! Since Ron and Gunther bought it in the spring of 2010 the place is awesome. Friendly, gay, but mixed crowd. Low key. Good music, but a place you can have a great conversation with friendly interesting locals. Everyone is welcome. read more

I'm not the demographic for this place, so many items are absent in this review. I did notice they close down their patio around midnight on a Fri night, despite a birthday crowd showing up. The inside was dated and dingy. read more

My favorite neighborhood bar in dc. They welcome everyone. It's a gay bar that you can bring your straight friends to. Friendly and cute bartenders. Hospitable and fun owners who are always present. Regulars who strike up conversation with anyone who walks in. Decent drink specials. And you can't beat the outdoor patio. Drinking out there with the bartenders taking orders and bringing drinks on a nice summer day while getting to people watch on one of the best street corners in D.C. is just the best. Love Larry's! read more

Location is great. Prices are insane. This place would be packed nightly otherwise, because the corner outdoor patio is unique and fun. The people watching is great. But $10 for a cocktail? read more

Larry's is a great dive bar. Sarah, Brett, Redian are all wonderful. They always find a way to be super welcoming even when it's busy there. Often times it can be a bit cramped because they attract locals and LGBT travelers alike. It's not a fancy bar by any means but it's one of those local watering holes that just really likes to be what it is. If you want a place with crazy fancy cocktails the bar team there can make them but it's not that type of bar. Know where your going before going there and simply enjoy your night with your friends and family behind the bar. read more

I was in town from new york and we decided to stop in while we waited for our table at the restaurant across the street. Totally a last minute option. It was a great surprise! We were there a Saturday night and Adam, the bartender, was AMAZINGLY accommodating. We ordered sangria, but they didn't have any. However, he offered to make us his version of it, it was PHENOMENAL! Better than the one we were served at the restaurant across while having dinner. The atmosphere is very low key and perfect to talk, catch up while having a drink. Good stop and kudos to Adam! read more

This is a great neighborhood bar, just off Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. There's a great outdoor patio and the happy hour specials are really, really good ($3 rails, $3.5 draft special, etc). We stopped in because we had a ScoutMob and the weather was nice so we wanted to stay outside. The crowd was friendly and easygoing, the people watching at 18th and T was phenomenal. This is a perfect place to stop after work. read more

There are two very good things about Larry's. One: patio. It's a great place to sit and watch the sidewalk traffic stroll by. Two: appetizers from Straits of Malaya right next door. Best bar bites around! The staff is lovingly lost and clueless, but quite nice. I left a bag there and they took good care of it before I even realized it was gone. read more

one of the best places to have drinks outside, period. (no idea whether the food is any good--have never had food here). good for groups and good weather. i recommend. read more

I accidentally left my phone here after having a bit too much fun. Not only did they have it, they kept it fully charged until I came to pick it up. Great atmosphere, affordable drinks, AMAZING staff. read more

After rereading what I wrote, I did want to correct on thing. Unfortunately, the Malaysian place next door has closed. That being said, because Larry's has such easygoing staff, it didn't take much for us to be able to bring in our own food. Lauriol Plaza is directly across the street and there's a place I haven't been to yet called 'Mandu' that I know I need to check out. Look for an upcoming review for that place soon! read more

My friend and I went here for a happy hour hangout on a Thursday and it was absolutely excellent. The happy hour deals are amazing and on the cheap side (which is always a good thing.) The bartender was super friendly along with everyone else hanging out. The outside patio was roomy with a fan that blasted a mist (we went during the crazy hot 90+ days) and while it was nice with umbrellas, we moved indoors. The inside is tiny - I did see stairs leading downstairs but I didn't venture down there and have no idea if you can. While food is not served here, the bartender was kind enough to recommend places that deliver to us and even placed the order for us too! Overall, we had such a great time. You really couldn't ask for a better, more chill with a cheap happy hour place to hang out. We will definitely be back! read more

I love the fact that this place is simply just a bar, the only thing they serve here is probably popcorn and lollipops which is awesome! Ask for Fernando, he's great! read more

Very very rude bartenders. We were blown away by their blatant rudeness. We would have ordered more drinks but honestly it wasn't worth the attitude. Good luck read more

Stopped in after I had dinner next door and thought this could my place to stop by after a long day at work. I ask the bald bartender for a drink when I sat down at the bar and he said I would need to wait since the bartender was out on a smoke break. I sat there for a couple of minutes and then the bartender returned and he was very nice and pleasant to me and got me my drink. I sat at the bar and enjoyed my drink and the bald bartender or bar back I guess since he did not want to get me my drink was talking about all the people that were sitting outside and not saying nice things about them that is all I am going to say. Lastly if this is the way a bar back talks about the customers this will not be the place I am going to stop after a long day work. I can stop by next door were I had dinner or find another place to go after a long day at work. read more
