He had stories about all the animals and took us right up to them. It was fun. Once we were done with the wagon tour we walked through the barn to see the giraffes and the other animals. I now want an armadillo! Lol! Then we drove through the whole safari in our truck. It was a bit different when you are eye to eye with the animals. But since we had already been through we knew which animals to avoid (emus and ostriches) and which ones we liked (camels). Then we drove through the Dinosaur area. I was skeptical but it was very well done. All of the dinosaurs move and make noise. We spent about three hours at Wilstem. It's also nice that your ticket works all day so you can drive through again and again! Oh and I bought some lettuce and fed a giraffe. It was so cool!

Communication about scheduling was easy and the price was good. My 2 girls had very different levels of skill in riding and Wayne was able to assess which horses would suit their personalities. In addition, he taught them a few tips about horseback riding even though we were only requesting a trail ride. The tack room was impeccably organized. The humidity of Bloomington made the shaded trail rides both refreshing and invigorating for the girls. Each morning they rushed towards the barn for their ride and after each outing they came back happy, looking forward to playing with the old and young dogs who room to round the barn. Elk Ridge Ranch offers so many activities: Axe throwing, skeet shooting, golf, gym, the brick pizza oven in the pizza barn, and so much more. They even added our meat to their smoker so we could enjoy a delicious dinner. They were hosting a bachelor party and wedding, and still found time to make us feel at home as welcomed guests. We had plenty of opportunities to socialize and to still have quiet time to ourselves. We loved walking around the ranch, and our quiet nights around the fire. Elk Ridge Ranch is out in the peaceful quiet of the country, but very near several surrounding charming towns. French Lick is a convenient short drive away, along with adjoining West Baden Springs. Both are such cute towns. I highly recommend spending at least a day or two exploring that area. We enjoyed our stay so much, we are already discussing when we can go back! Their accommodations are very reasonably priced. We hope to bring our parents back to stay in their charming little cabin overlooking the ranch.

The rooms have been remodeled (although the paint on the wall of one room was peeling). Check in and out is quick and easy. The restaurant is seasonal so it was closed this last visit. The previous visit, the food was good and priced well. The staff accommodated 50 of us with no problem. As the property is adjacent to the marina, access is easy. There is an indoor pool as well. There are restaurants off site close by (I recommend the golf course). I would definitely recommend a lakeside room for a great view.

We walked in, greeted immediately by a very sweet friendly girl, asked for a seat outside and were accommodated and sat immediately. It was a Sunday at 6:15, very few tables were occupied inside and out. It was breezy and comfortable. They offered to attempt to find us someone to open the umbrella the rest of the way (it had a plastic knife shoved in there, I assume to keep it halfway opened) but we had shade so we declined. We got water and our order taken very quickly by an attentive server, drinks served quickly. Things were looking good. After we ordered we waited quite awhile but that was ok, we expected to get our appetizer and just relax while we ate. After quite a while the server shows up with the appetizer AND our entrees. I was not happy. What about an appetizer says it comes out with the meal, you are barely busy inside and now we have to shove it all in fast so our meal isn't cold when we hurriedly get to it. If you can't serve an appetizer as an appetizer, you obviously have time management as well as leadership issues in your kitchen. Bang bang shrimp: Shrimp was good sized. Cooked well. Tasted like it was dipped in that awful cornmeal bagged type "breading" you buy at a local grocery store and then topped in that fake "Bang Bang Shrimp" recipe you find on Facebook that people swear is a copycat of Bonefish Grill. Fish and chips: Again that awful cornmeal bagged breading taste. Cod without it was actually good, that breading made it so off putting. Coleslaw: Cabbage with a dollop of what seemed to be just mayo. My husband said that is the worst coleslaw I have ever tasted. It went untouched. Tartar sauce: Just a ton of mayo and little seasoning. Fries: Actually delicious. Pizza: Come on now...it's obviously a frozen disaster. If they are really trying to claim they make the dough...find someone new to learn how to make dough, it's very easy. It's like actual flavorless cardboard. My husband said I think they buy frozen pizza and top it with these uncooked veggies (they were so underdone he scraped them all off to try to eat it unsuccessfully and I refused to even finish a slice) and call it their own. Those tomato's needed another week to ripen. It came home with us and he threw it away when we got here. Drinks: Strong and good. Service: GREAT Food quality: Cheap tasting and felt like it was grabbed from a freezer. Worth the price: Absolutely not, the view is pretty but skip the food, grab a drink and go home to cook for yourself. But for the food and experience? I think it's worth the try! -- We had the Steak Chimichurri, Cajun Salmon, and then came the unexpected star of the night... -- THE LASAGNA. -- Here's the thing: IT'S NOT EVEN ON THE MENU! The owner swore to us that it was some of the best lasagna in Bloomington....maybe even the STATE. And after a claim like that?! Obviously we had to try it. Y'all...HE WAS NOT LYING. -- Cheesy. Saucy. Hearty. Comfort food DONE RIGHT. Honestly, it might have been my favorite thing we had. -- So Malibu Grill, I have one request: PUT. THE. LASAGNA. BACK. ON. THE. MENU. And if you go, please show them this post so they know I'm not letting this go! -- March Madness brought us to Bloomington, but Malibu Grill ended up being one of those unexpected food finds that made the trip even better.
