He was shocked when he seen the African Queen and more surprised when I told him we were going on a cruise in the Queen. You can book this cruise right at the Holiday Inn if you choose so. We booked a 2pm ride and got there 15 minutes ahead of time. Captain Duncan who oversaw the boat helped my dad on the boat without too much trouble. This is the original African Queen boat that was used in the movie of the same name. The Queen is small it only holds about 6 passengers and the captain. There was only one another couple on the boat with us at the 2 pm cruise. Captain Duncan knew all about the history of the boat. He was very knowledgeable about the movie, its movie trivia, and the Marina De Mar area which we cruised around. He told us many local stories and recommendations. He was friendly and a great sense of humor and welcoming attitude. Once we got out in the Atlantic a couple yards, he left everybody steer the Queen for pictures. He even had the Whisky Bottle so we could get a picture of us pouring the Whisky overboard just like in the movie. The cruise took about 1.5 hours which was fun and lots of site seeing to boot. I encourage everyone to take a cruise on the Original African Queen you just can't go wrong. I give this boat cruise a 5 out of 5 stars because of all the history, the fun, Capitan Duncan letting us steer the boat plus learning all about the movie and all the sightseeing to boot. One of the participants on our boat did exactly that and she enjoyed herself on both trips. The boat went to different locations on each day, so repeat snorkeler was able to see different parts of the reef. Paradise Island Charters is a small boat that holds only 15 people, and we had 11 on our trip. The sales rep at the dock said the limited capacity allows for a more personal trip with more attention from the crew. This was very much the case as we had a couple of newbies with us and First Mate Al was able to provide them with a lot of assistance (& patience!) Al was very knowledgeable about the fish, the reef, and the overall snorkeling process. She was personable and seemed to enjoy her job very much. She even gave us a few good suggestions for places to dine in Key Largo. Captain Doug was friendly, knowledgeable, and very safety-conscious. He was also an amazing captain. He spotted a family of dolphins and skillfully turned his boat in large circles at just the right speed so that the dolphins could safely frolic in the boat's wake. What an amazing sight! We watched the dolphins jumping for several minutes until they swam off. Thank you Captain Doug for that awesome show! Unfortunately the snorkeling was exciting but not for the best of reasons: numerous jellyfish were floating in the area and we spent a lot of time trying to avoid them. Although the coral and the fish were great to see, the abundance of jellyfish was a big distraction. And some of the snorkelers were stung. If you are comparing snorkeling tour operators, please be aware that Paradise Island Charters does not include the snorkeling equipment in the base price of their tours. They do offer prescription snorkel masks for people who wear glasses. Overall, the trip was really fun and I would recommend this company to other snorkelers. Doug and Al are a key part of their success.

In fact, we arrived at the reef with the Christ statue when one of the crowded boats was leaving and left about an hour later one another one arrived. We practically had the place to ourselves. After snorkeling the two reefs we ate lunch and paddle boarded. It was a great day spent on the ocean. If you want a comfortable relaxing time and nice personalized experience out on the water, I highly recommend Capt. Putnam's boat. He is very friendly and truly accommodating to what we wanted to do. I definitely give this experience a 5-star rating!

Three of them are prone to sea sickness, one has anxiety about being on boats, one has anxiety about getting into the ocean, one has had eye surgery and yet another is afraid she won't be able to get back in the boat if she gets off. We all got in the water (and successfully got back in the boat!) We we're able to fully enjoy the beauty of the ocean all while sounding like a bunch of cackling hens. Spurgeon had the patience of a saint, which allowed us to sit back and relax. He talked us all through our fears, gave us great instruction, was full of interesting information. I highly recommend chartering with Nautical Adventures and Captain Spurgeon!
