Wow, surprising that there are no reviews for this restaurant given the great recommendations we received from locals as well as the ratings we saw on Foursquare. My fiance and I made reservations for dinner at Lara Balikevi on our last night in Turkey. We were hoping to end our vacation with a satisfying meal, but were extremely disappointed.
The upside is the view by the water was utterly breathtaking. We hung around a bit longer after dinner just to see the sun setting, and it was gorgeous. It is a great place for photo-taking and definitely the highlight of our dinner. However, if you are looking for some good food, I may want to consider elsewhere.
The restaurant did look inviting and had plentiful seating, but was rather empty that night. We sat right by the edge and had the most perfect view, with much wait staff surrounding our area. They didn't look exactly friendly, especially our waiter, who needed to crack a little smile. Furthermore, we inquired him about some appetizers prior to ordering, particularly the crab meat appetizer. He told us that it was good, so we went for it, and ended up having crab sticks. Yup, crab sticks. A famous seafood restaurant serving us crab sticks. We also ordered the mussel appetizer, which not only didn't taste fresh, but was cold and stiff. Followed by those appetizers, we ordered a sea bass, which you can't go wrong with in Turkey, as well as some casserole dish that was really greasy. A slight tilt of the casserole revealed all the oil that was used to deep fry our dish. We barely touched anything because every single item on the dish was coated with grease.
The dinner was a major let down and a bit on the pricier side in comparison to other restaurants in Turkey (even ones with a magnificent view), but on a positive note, the scene was beautiful and it's not common to eat at a place like this back home. Frankly speaking though, I wouldn't return again. read more
