They also aren't afraid to add a little heat, but as somebody who doesn't like their food too spicy nothing here was overdone. I'm really glad we decided to stop during a road trip up 95. Now, the place is loud, so if that's not your jam maybe try take out because the food is top notch. We didn't like our drinks, as we opted to be a little adventurous here. I ordered a mezcal drink with orange and pineapple, she ordered an orange version of the house marg. We both decided maybe we should just try the standard marg next time. Also for what it's worth, our server spoke very little English. Overall, I rate restaurants on if we'd come back or not. Well let me tell you, I live 6 hours away and on the way out we were wondering if it would be worth the drive for dinner. The answer is absolutely yes.

The food was okay but one plate came out of the kitchen cold. It was not busy...we arrived at 11am and we were the only customers for over 30 mins. Our waitress was horrible. We asked for iced tea and she brought out cheese. When she was corrected she brought us 1 glass of tea for 3 people. A fork was dropped on the floor and the server picked up the dirty fork and handed it back to us. She brought the check and we needed to verify it was correct since the server did not have her act together. She stood at the table even though we asked for a moment to review the check. We asked her again for a moment and her comment was "what's with the attitude"? Excuse me....we are the paying customers and had nicely requested corrections on everything she had screwed up. We asked for the manager, told him what the situation was and he refunded $8.00 on a $44 bill. WE WILL NOT BE BACK! The better step up their customer service game or they will rightly lose regular customers.

This was always our go to for Mexican food for the last 25 years, and we've checked back often waiting for them to reopen. The other el tapatio locations don't have the same salsa verde and I've never seen this style of it anywhere else. It was a little different, a little more lemon juice maybe but still the star of the show! Service was spot on and with a very personable and attentive waitress who checked on us frequently. Ambiance has changed to a more modern look, but I kind of liked the old booths. Still, thrilled to have them back!
